Starting
Make it a habit of giving the engine and engine room a visual check before starting. This will help you to discover
quickly if anything abnormal has happened, or is about to happen.
Also check that instruments and warning displays show normal values after you have started the engine.
'&WARNING!
Never use start spray or similar agents to start an engine. This may cause an explosion in the inlet manifold.

Overheating protection
If the starter motor is engaged for its maximum activa-
tion time (30 seconds), the starter motor circuit is cut
automatically to protect the starter motor from over-
heating. If possible, leave the starter motor to cool for
at least five minutes before making a new start attempt.
t
Read the instruments and warm the
engine up
Allow the engines to idle for the first ten seconds.
Check that instruments and warning displays show
normal values.
Check that no messages are displayed and no warning
signs are showing. If a fault is reg istred , please refer
to section Fault Handling page 25 for further infor-
mation and recomended actions. Warm the engine up
at low speed and low load, so normal operating tem-
perature is reached before full power is used.
t
IMPORTANT!
Never race the engine when it is cold.
