Camp Bay Breeze Song

I wanna’ wake up in the morning

Where the old Bay Breezes blow
Where the sun comes a creepin’
Into where I’m a sleepin’
and the seagulls say hello

HELLO!!

I wanna’ wander through the wildwood

Where the fragrant breezes blow
And drift back to old Bay Breeze
The greatest camp I know.

All RIGHT!
THE LEGEND OF BAY BREEZE

We are told that long ago, before the first settlers came to these shores, a tribe of peaceful
Indians inhabited these cliffs. They made their living from the forest and the bay. They
worshiped the “Great Spirit”, who gave them deer from the forest and fish from the bay.
The chief of the tribe was a very wise and just man…a man of peace. As he grew older he
became very sad and depressed because he did not have an heir. His tribe would be left without
a chief or guide when he went to the Happy Hunting Grounds.

One day when the breeze from the bay blew pleasantly over the cliffs, the chief, his wife and
tribe prayed to the “Great Spirit” for help. Within the next year the chief and his wife were
blessed by the birth of a child.

But the child was a girl. This presented a problem because no woman had ever ruled a tribe. A
horrible truth came to life…unless the “Great Spirit” favored the chief's beautiful daughter the
tribe would still be left without a ruler. The chief's wicked nephew, the ruler of a neighboring
tribe, would overrun the chief's peaceful tribe. His people would become slaves of the wicked
nephew.

As the young princess grew into womanhood she became known not just for her exceptional
beauty, but also because the “Great Spirit” had blessed her with the Spirit of Truth. So, when
the princess became eighteen years of age her father made her the ruler of his tribe and
named her Princess Bay Breeze. Only a few short moons later the chief was carried away to
The Happy Hunting Grounds. Even as his spirit was still being carried on the winds, his wicked
nephew was already making plans to capture the young princess and enslave her people.

One dark night, the wicked nephew and his warriors swooped down upon the peaceful tribe and
forcefully carried the princess off to a distant cliff. Here they planned to sacrifice her to their god,
“The God of the Sea”. As the dawn of the next day broke, the princess slipped away from her
captures. She climbed to the highest cliff on the bay and here she prayed to “The Great Spirit”.
As she prayed for the safety of her people, huge tears rolled down her face and dropped into
the bay.

The bay became very troubled and churned against the cliffs. Then a beautiful ray of light shone
down from the sky. The princess believed she was feeling the presence of her father and so she
went quietly back to her wigwam in the camp of the wicked nephew.

The next day the wicked nephew came to Princess Bay Breeze, bound her and had his warriors
carry her back up the cliff. Here the medicine men prayed to the Great Sea God to send up the
mighty fish of the deep to devour the young maiden as a sacrifice. They prayed for hours, but
nothing happened. The wicked nephew became very impatient and prepared to throw Princess
Bay Breeze over the cliff. Suddenly the bay became very angry and roared violently, giving forth
in great amounts the teeth of the great fish, the dreaded shark, which would have devoured the
young princess. The wicked nephew, his warriors and medicine men ran shrieking from the
cliffs.

The bay stilled and became calm. Princess Bay Breeze and her people were saved. Since that
day no sharks have dwelled in the waters of this bay. People say that as you walk along these
shores and you see a shark's tooth, be it big or small, you will know that what I have told you is
true because in your hand you have a symbol of …

THE LEGEND OF BAY BREEZE.
