BUSINESS MEETING ETIQUETTE
Business Meeting Etiquette is the standard of conduct that employees of a
business are expected to follow during a meeting. Leaders and participants can
foster a polite, punctual, and collaborative workplace by upholding certain norms.
While business-to-business etiquette may differ, many businesses have established
certain common rules. Attendees of the meetings ought to arrive on time or early.
Participants should be aware of the purpose of the meeting with the alongside what
is needed. It is also required for the participants at the meeting to listen and pay
attention. Participants should not divert themselves or disturb the meeting.
DO’S
The things that a great event organizer and planner should do during business
meetings are:
Concentrate on what is being said: Do not be distracted and give your full
attention to the speaker by listening actively
Show that you are engaged: look at your colleague who is speaking and
nod occasionally to show that you are listening
Ask Questions: asking insightful questions can show that you are listening; it
shows engagement and clarifies points
Paraphrase and summarize: repeating or clarifying what has been said
really shows that you are actively listening and understanding what the
speaker is saying
DON’TS
The things that a great event organizer and planner should avoid during business
meetings are:
Interrupting Others: avoid interrupting colleagues or clients while they are
speaking. Allow them to finish what they are saying before giving your
comments
Do not talk with others or make unnecessary noise while someone is
speaking: avoid chitchatting with your seatmate or make any unnecessary
noise while someone is speaking as these actions show disrespect to the
speaker and also an indication that you are not acting professionally during
the business meeting
Side Conversations: partaking in off-topic conversations during a meeting
can be disruptive and can hinder the concentration of others. It is better to
listen attentively and focus on what the speaker is saying, and reserve such
discussions for more appropriate times
Monopolizing the Conversation: avoid dominating the conversation as it
can hinder collaboration and result in disengagement; let other attendees
speak up their thoughts and listen to them attentively before giving your
comments
