2. Explain the difference b/n mass and weight.

3. The velocity of a moving trolley of mass 1kg is 3m/s .A block of mass 0.5kg is placed vertically on the trolley.
Immediately after the collision, the speed of the trolley and block is 2m/s. show whether the momentum is conserved in
collision .

4. A concrete slab of mass 400kg accelerate down a concrete slope inclined at 35 0 . The µkinetic between the slab and slope
is 0.6 . Determine the acceleration of the block.

5.By Newton’s second law of motion, a net force of 1N acting on a mass of 1kg produces an acceleration of 1m/s 2 .If
both the force and the mass are doubled , the acceleration will be:

A) twice the original B) half of the original C) four times the original D) the same as the original

6.A body with a mass of 1kg travels East wards at a velocity of 5m/s. It collides head on with a body of mass 2kg
travelling at a velocity of 10m/s in opposite direction . The two bodies unite after collision and they make East wards
together . What is the velocity of two bodies after collision ?

7. Consider the surface and pulley are friction less. Find acceleration and tension when the system is released if
m1=100kg and m2=200kg.

8.Two block of mass 10kg and 15kg are connected by a string which has a tension of 6N. A force F acts in a direction
shown to the right .Neglecting friction ,what is the value of acceleration and force F?

T M2=15kg F
M1=10kg

9.Two spring each with a force of constant 200N/m set up in parallel with an applied force of 60N. calculate the
extension produced by the force?

5 A
respectively. If all surfaces are smooth, what are the accelerations of A and
kk
B when 15 N applies on B horizontally? 10 kg B 15

12.The figure below shows a block of mass 4 kg placed on a rough plane inclined
at 30 to the horizontal. The block is pushed up the plane by a 45-N force
acting parallel to the plane. The block moves with uniform velocity.
a. Draw a labelled diagram to show all the forces acting the block.

45 N
b. Find the friction between the block and the plane. 30
13.An upward force is applied to lift a 20kg bag a to a height of 5m. The
bag is lifted at a constant speed. What is the work done on the bag?

14.Fido, a small dog that weighs 100.N, sees a bird in a tree and climbs straight up, at constant velocity, with
an average power of 640.W. If it takes Fido 8.50sec to reach the branch upon which the bird is perched, how
high is that branch?

15. Calculate the total work done in the following examples:

a) A 20 kg log lifted 2 m into the air
b) Thirty 6 kg boxes lifted onto a shelf 1.5 m high
c) A car of mass 1400 kg pushed 50 m along a road(μkinetic = 0.3)
d) A concrete slab of mass 200 kg pulled 10 m up a slope at an angle of 30° to the horizontal (μkinetic = 0.6).
