EVALUATION GUIDELINES

Dear students,

For the SECOND TERM evaluation, consider the following:

 The assessment strategy for second term evaluation consists of describing pictures, so you are given free
choice to select a picture from the section FOCUS ON THE TOPIC of units 5, 6, 7, and 8
 In order to lead your talk, answer the four guiding questions:
1. What do you see in the picture? Describe.
2. Why did you choose this picture? Give three reasons.
3. How do you see this picture? Share your opinion/understanding of the picture.
4. What can others learn from this picture? Share a lesson/message as per your understanding.
 Carry out a 2-minute speech answering the guiding questions.
 You must be on time for the exam and make sure the internet connection is excellent, in other words your
audio and camera must function in optimum conditions.
 Wear headphones and stay in an environment free from distracting noises.
 Stick to the time set for the oral presentation
 Once you finish your exam you must leave the session.
 Consider the tips below that will help you to do really well in this type of speaking exam.
Do:
 You have 2 minutes to give the speech; so, talk all the time you are given, use every second.
 Practice the useful language below, so you can explain which part of the picture you are talking about.

What is in the picture?

In the picture I can see ... / There’s / There are ... / There isn’t a ... / There aren’t any ...

Say what is happening with the present continuous tense

The man is ...ing / The people are ...ing /

Where in the picture?

At the top/bottom of the picture ... / In the middle of the picture ... / On the left/right of the picture ... / Next
to… / In front of … / Behind … / Near … / On top of … / Under…

If something isn’t clear

It looks like a ... / It might be a ... / He could be ...ing … / Maybe it’s a ...

Don’t:
 Panic if you don’t know the words for all the things in the picture. You don’t need to know all the words for
everything in the picture if you know what to say when you don't know an exact word.
 Get distracted and start talking about something else. Focus on the picture and the guiding questions.
 Panic if your mind goes blank. Take a deep breath, look at the picture or your notes and start again.

IMPORTANT: Consider following rubric as guidance to carry out the evaluation.
