Assignment 4

The document is an assignment sheet for a Design of Reinforced Concrete Structures course. It contains 5 problems to solve related to designing reinforced concrete slabs and beams. The problems involve designing slabs for different room dimensions and loadings, as well as designing beams and detailing slab reinforcement. Students are to provide the design and reinforcement details for the slabs and beams using given concrete grade (M20 or M25) and steel grade (Fe415).

Walchand College of Engineering, Sangli Assignment Sheet No.

3
Department: Civil Engineering
Issue Date: 21 May 2021 Pages: 1
Subject Name: Design of Reinforced Concrete
Structures
Faculty: Dr.S.B.Kadam Semester: II
Subject Code: 4CV324

Unit/Title: Module No 4

1. Design a slab over a room 4 m x 6 m. The edges of the slab are simply supported and
the corners are not held down. The live load on the slab is 3000 N/m2. The slab has a
bearing of 150 mm on the supporting walls. Use M 20 concrete and Fe 415 steel.

2. Design a simply supported slab, supported on walls for following properties –

Clear span = 3 m
Live load = 4000 N/m2
Use M 20 concrete and Fe 415 steel.

3. A simply supported slab panel of clear size 3m x 6.5m carries a live load of 3.5 kN/m2
and a floor finish of 1.0 kN/m2. Slab panel is supported on masonry walls having width
120 mm. Design the slab panel using M 25 grade of concrete and Fe 415 grade steel.
Draw the figure showing detailing of reinforcement.

4. A beam and slab floor of RCC consists of a continuous slab supported on 3 beams of
6 m clear span having 400 mm end bearings. The beams are spaced at 2.75 m centers.
Following are the design details:-
Slab – Thickness of slab = 100 mm, Main steel = 10 mm ϕ bars @ 200 mm c/c,
Distribution Steel, 8 mm ϕ @ 300 mm c/c. Bend alternate bar @ 600 mm from center
of beam.
Beam – Overall depth = 450 mm, Width of web = 250 mm, Width of flange = 2.04 m,
Longitudinal reinforcement = 4 bars of 20 mm ϕ,
Shear reinforcement – 8 mm ϕ, 2-legged stirrups @ 300 mm c/c throughout the
length of beam.

Draw longitudinal view showing details of slab reinforcement. Also draw

longitudinal view for beam showing all details.
5. Design a simply supported R. C. slab for a room 4.5 m x 7 m. The slab is supported on
beams with corners free to lift. The width of supporting beam is 230 mm. The slab
carries a superimposed load of 3 kN/m2. Use M 25 grade of concrete and Fe 415 grade
of steel. Also check the slab for shear.
