Greenough Stereo Microscopes S9 Series

S APO unique Greenough Stereo Microscope with high magnification power

The Greenough stereo microscope, S APO with apochromatic 8:1 zoom and high magnification up to
80x is ideal for quality control, cell sorting, and microinjection applications.

With 75 mm working distance it provides easy access to the sample.

An ergonomic viewing angle of 38 degrees allows comfortable
posture, which helps to increase productivity and reduce fatigue
related inspection errors. Adjustable zoom stops allow fast, easy,
repeatable measurements and inspections.

The integrated documentation port allows connection of a digital

camera.

Changing perspective is easy

Do you sometimes find it difficult to work only through the

eyepieces of the microscope?

With the digital functionality of the S9 i, S9 D, and S APO

you don’t have to choose between screen or eyepieces. You
can quickly scan through samples using a large screen view
and check on details through the eyepieces of the
microscope.

MICROMANIPULATION

Micromanipulation

In many time-lapse or multi-dimensional experiments, cell manipulation is the starting point for
subsequent analysis. Microinjection with DNA, RNA or probes into adherent cells enable you to
better understand pathways and intracellular machinery. DNA, stem cells or spermatozoa
microinjection into oocytes or blastocysts are performed to create transgenic or cloned organisms,
or to fertilize oocytes for Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART), such as in vitro fertilization (IVF).

Furthermore the CRISPR/Cas9 technique is used to produce transgene animals. With several Leica
configurations to meet your needs and budget, you will be sure to find the perfect
micromanipulation solution.

Brilliant Image Quality

Visualize small structures, such as sperm heads, with the

highest resolution and contrast. With superb contrast
methods, such as Integrated Modulation Contrast and
DIC, and a variety of high quality objectives to choose
from, you will see tiny structures with clarity.

Keep the Specimen in View

Zoom in and out without switching objectives and losing

sight of moving specimens. The Leica variozoom camera
c-mount allows you to increase and decrease the
magnification with just a turn of the adaptor - perfect to
keep fast moving specimen like spermatocytes in view
while changing magnification to check morphology or
catch a sperm for injection.

Inverted Laboratory Microscope Leica DM IL LED

With high-performance optics, ergonomic design, and 5W LED illumination,

the Leica DM IL LED is ideal for cell culture, micromanipulation,
documentation of immunostained specimens, and routine live cell
examinations.

The Leica DM IL LED features a comprehensive set of contrast methods to

monitor your specimen the way you need. High-quality Phase contrast,
excellent modulation contrast and brilliant fluorescence are just one
fingertip away. Robust stability, plenty of space to work with tools, long
working distances to accommodate large culture flasks and a stable
illumination without heat make work at the microscope easy and
convenient.

For special diagnostics requirements, the microscope is certified for in-vitro-diagnostics (IVD)
including in-vitro-fertilization (IVF).

Contrasting methods

In addition to Phase Contrast and Brightfield illumination, the DM

IL features unique Integrated Modulation Contrast (IMC) from
Leica without the need for special objectives.

Available for 1 0x, 20x, 32x, and 40x magnification.

Inverted Laboratory Microscope Leica DMi8

Perfect Stability

Creating a vibration-free setup and obtaining outstanding

optics to visualize tiny particles for microinjection (e.g.
pronuclei) are the major challenges for micromanipulation.

Offering superior precision, Mechanical Manipulators by Leica

Microsystems are ideal for life science applications where
micro surgical, physiological, or chemical operations are
performed on live organisms such as oocytes, adherent cells,
and plant cells. Typical applications include microinjection in adherent cells, transgenics, and work
involving stem cells.

Leica DMi8 offers a stable platform for micromanipulation

The Leica DMi8 offers a stable, ergonomic, and flexible microscope

platform along with a variety of contrasting methods for visualizing
cells. In combination with the micromanipulator of choice, you can
create a perfectly matched system to work with your cells.

Various Configurations examples:

Configuration example for ICSI

Leica Microsystems and Narishige: a widely used combination

around the world. With both manual and motorized oil hydraulic Narishige micromanipulators
available, find the option that works best for your needs.

Configuration example for pronucleus injection

DMi8 equipped with our mechanical micromanipulators is the workhorse for precision and
robustness. The joystick movement transfers directly to the tip of the capillary, without any
backlash.

Configuration example for embryonic stem cell transfer

Fully Motorized Micromanipulation: The fully motorized Leica DMi8 and Eppendorf
micromanipulators allow you to store and recall important functions, thereby increasing speed and
precision. A touch screen can be added for easy and intuitive control of all microscope functions.

Our Success Story

Separations have supported Leica Microsystems for the past

2 years and have grown from strength to strength. We have
supplied various models to all fields in many different
industries that require microscopy.

By far one of our greatest successes has been the installation of the DMi8 at the University of
Pretoria in Ondersterpoort, for Mr Mario Smits who is focusing on IVF in animals.

We Installed the Manual DMi8 from Leica which was coupled to the Narishige Micromanipulators.
Our Leica Product Specialist is 1 of the 2 Narishige certified operators in South Africa with intimate
knowledge on how these accessories work and just how well they marry to the Leica Microscopes.

Below is some pictures of unit installed and images that were taken using this system.
