1 The correct answer is A: The notice says ‘Help make our platforms beautiful’. This matches

garden, not visiting several of them.

2 The correct answer is A: Mrs Jones says ‘someone is already doing “Local Transport”. What
about “Fashion”?’ So ‘Fashion’ is a new subject for Chloe’s project. B is incorrect. Mrs Jones

doesn’t mention another person in her email.

3 The correct answer is C: Jana writes ‘I’ll meet you at the gym this afternoon instead of at the
bus stop’. This means she is changing the agreed meeting place. A is incorrect. Jana doesn’t
talk about catching a bus. B is incorrect. Jana says she will meet Kate at the gym.

4 The correct answer is B: The notice says ‘For more information contact Ben’. This matches
the meaning of ‘You can get further details … by talking to Ben’. A is incorrect. Ben needs
actors, not people with ideas. C is incorrect. The notice says ‘No experience needed’. This
means Ben is also interested in talking to people who have never acted.

5 The correct answer is A: Mr Matthews says ‘When will you arrive?’ This matches the
meaning of ‘asking what time he can meet Ms Thomas’. B is incorrect. The text mentions keys,
but it doesn’t say where they are. C is incorrect. We know from the context that Ms Thomas
has already booked the holiday flat.

6 The correct answer is B: The text message says ‘We just need a band. Do you know a

more acting experience than the man’. A is incorrect. Rafa mentions the actors, but he doesn’t
compare how good they are. C is incorrect. Claudio doesn’t mention anything about the actors.

8 The correct answer is A: Rafa says ‘When the film first came out, not many people went to

9 The correct answer is C: Claudio says ‘the final moments always make me cry’. This means
that he feels sad at the end of the film. A is incorrect. Rafa doesn’t say anything about the end
of the film or being sad. B is incorrect. Dan mentions the end of the film, but not being sad.

10 The correct answer is A: Rafa says ‘The first time I saw Silver River was at my friend’s
house’. B is incorrect. Dan doesn’t mention where he first saw the film. C is incorrect. Claudio
says ‘I can’t remember when or where I first saw Black Hole’.

11 The correct answer is B: In his text, Dan explains the story of his favourite film: ‘It’s about
a musician who leaves his home in Mexico and goes looking for adventure. He travels around
the country for a year, playing his guitar everywhere he goes. At the end of the film, he meets
the woman who becomes his wife’. A and C are incorrect. Both Rafa and Claudio mention the
topic of their favourite film, but they don’t explain what happens in the story.

12 The correct answer is B: Dan says ‘This actually happened in real life’. This means the film
is a true story. A and C are incorrect. Neither Rafa nor Claudio says anything about the film
being a true story.

13 The correct answer is C: Claudio says ‘it’s a film I like to watch at least once a year’.
A is incorrect. Rafa says ‘I saw it (his favourite film) again last week’, but not that he sees it

Part 3
Questions 14–18

14 The correct answer is C: Paragraph 1 says ‘a friend of mine told me about her fantastic
job as a tour guide. She was able to help me get a job with her company’. A is incorrect. She
sounds happy to get this job. B is incorrect. Kerri says ‘I was looking for work after I finished
university’. She wasn’t looking for holiday work.

15 The correct answer is B: Paragraph 2 says ‘I make sure I have all the right forms and visas
for the new group of tourists. It’s important that I have everything’. Here ‘documents’ matches the
meaning of ‘forms and visas’. A is incorrect. The text says ‘the driver takes the coach from the
city where the last tour finished to the one where the next tour starts, but I fly there’. C is incorrect.
Although the word ‘hotel’ is mentioned, there is nothing about making sure hotels are booked.

16 The correct answer is A: Paragraph 3 says ‘I love it when our coach is full of happy people,
excited about their trip’. B is incorrect. Kerri writes ‘I’m friendly towards the tourists, but I
always remember that they’re my customers’. This means that Kerri is ready to help them, but
they don’t become friends. C is incorrect. Kerri mentions problems, but she doesn’t say that
she enjoys helping people with them.

17 The correct answer is B: Paragraph 4 says ‘My posts are usually about interesting
museums, castles and things like that’. A is incorrect. Kerri reads ‘other guides’ ideas for

18 The correct answer is A: In the final paragraph, Kerri says ‘If you’re thinking of doing it, go
on a tour as a customer first. It’s a good way to see what guides do’. B is incorrect. Kerri doesn’t
mention talking to other guides. C is incorrect. Kerri points out that guides don’t earn much.

Part 4
Questions 19–24

19 The correct answer is B: The adverb ‘immediately’ is the correct word for this gap because
it can be used with ‘almost’. A and C are incorrect. Neither ‘early’ nor ‘exactly’ can be used
with ‘almost’ in this text.

20 The correct answer is B: The word ‘telling’ is the only option that fits here because it
requires the object ‘them’. A and C are incorrect. Both ‘speak’ and ‘explain’ would need to
be followed by ‘to’.

21 The correct answer is C: The phrase ‘in total’ means the whole amount or number, and
the sentence tells us that this meaning is needed. A is incorrect. Its meaning doesn’t fit here.
B is incorrect. Its meaning doesn’t fit here, and you can’t use the word ‘variety’ with the
preposition ‘in’.

22 The correct answer is A: From the context, it is clear that the gap needs a word that means
‘is given’, and ‘received’ matches this meaning. B and C are incorrect. Neither of these words
is meaningful here.

23 The correct answer is B: The text after this gap goes on to explain, or give reasons, why Nobel
Prizes are important. This tells you that the gap needs the word ‘reasons’. A and C are incorrect.
‘Instructions’ and ‘differences’ don’t make sense in the context.

24 The correct answer is B: This gap needs a word that introduces a contrasting idea. The
text is saying that although the prize money is important, it isn’t as important as the attention
the scientist’s work gets. ‘However’ is the correct word because it is the only one of the three
options that is used in this way. B is incorrect. ‘Instead’ is used to give an alternative, not
introduce a contrasting idea. C is incorrect. ‘Especially’ doesn’t introduce a contrasting idea.

25 The correct answer is ‘than’: The word ‘than’ is used to connect the two parts of a comparison.
Here the writer is comparing his new house with his old house.

26 The correct answer is ‘there’: We use ‘there’ with either ‘is’ or ‘are’ to introduce the idea
that something is present or exists, in this case ‘a big garden’.

27 The correct answer is ‘to’: We need the verb with the infinitive (‘to grow’) after the phrase
‘I can’t wait …’.

28 The correct answer is ‘a’: The article ‘a’ is needed to complete the fixed phrase ‘a long time’.

29 The correct answer is ‘would’: We use the expression ‘would you like …?’ in invitations.
