The Cadet Learn and Earn Summer Program 2023 Participant Program Handbook To Unite, To Serve, To Lead Introduction Welcome to the Cadet Lea and Ear Summer Program (CLESP) by the Jamaica Combined Cadet Force. As a participant in this program, you will have the opportunity to develop work ethics, employability skills, and gain valuable work experience that can be applied in the future. This program aims to broaden your horizons and prepare you for new possibilities. Objectives of the CLESP ‘The objectives of the CLESP are as follows: 1. Toprovide opportunities to leam and practice leadership, decision-making, citizenship and community services; Give Cadets the opportunity to gain work experience and to develop useful work ethics & behaviour patterns; Provide useful services and improvements for the JCCF activities during the summer. 4. Provide stability for the Cadets to reduce the chances of them being susceptible to deviant & antisocial behaviour; 5. Provide financial support for back-to-school expenses; 6. Provide a safe haven during the summer for those susceptible to be recruited by criminal gangs. Making it Personal 1 have high expectations for myself cINO Name and plan to have a_great summer while gaining valuable skills for the future. I am assigned duties through the CLESP and will receive a stipend of One Thousand, Five Hundred Dollars ($1,500.00) for each day at the end of the program. Document Purpose ‘This Participant Handbook explains your responsibilities as a Cadet in the Jamaica Combined Cadet Force, Cadet Learn and Eam Summer Program (CLSEP) and provides important program information. It also serves as a guide for carrying out your responsibilities as a Cadet and Inter. Expectations of Participants (Your Responsibilities as a Partici of Conduct int) Program Standard ‘The CLESP is designed to improve your employability skills, job searching skills, and provide knowledge about work and career opportunities. It aims to help you determine your interests and set career goals. Participation in the program offers opportunities for personal growth and opens doors to various possibilities within and outside the Island Security Forces (ISP). It is. important to demonstrate good judgment, responsibility, respect for yourself, program coordinators, work environment, supervisors/instructors, program staff, and peers. This residential program includes three (3) meals per day and may involve visits to other parishes outside of Kingston, Program Standard of Conduet Courtesy: Use of abusive or profane language and discourteous behaviour is strictly prohibited. Failure to behave courteously may result in removal from the program or forfeiture of payment. Accepting Supervision: All cadets will be assigned to a team led by a Senior NCO under the instruction of an Adult Other Rank. Alcohol and Drugs: Possession or use of alcoholic beverages and/or drugs at or near the facility is strictly prohibited. Violation of this rule may lead to immediate termination and disciplinary action. Anyone showing the effects of indulgence in alcoholic beverages and/or drugs will be required to attend counselling sessions or be removed from the program. Violence: Disruptive behaviour and violence in or near the facility are strictly prohibited. Cadets are expected to display appropriate business behaviour, language, and attitudes. Notify your Team Leader immediately if any problems occur. Theft: Stealing is prohibited. Any participant caught stealing will be removed from the program. Weapons: Offensive weapons are strictly prohibited. Participants found with weapons may be referred to counselling or removed from the program. Cell phones: All contact with persons outside the program should be routed through the respective Adult Other Rank, Leaving Campsite: Cadets are not allowed to leave the compound unless authorized by the Program Coordinator or accompanied by an Adult Other Rank. Attendance & Punctuality: All cadets are expected to report for muster at 07:45 rs. Ifunable to attend due to illness or any other reason, notify your Team Leader and appear for the sick parade Clean Up: Barrack room inspections will be conducted daily, and all Cadets are expected to have their area cleaned in accordance with military standard. Sexual Harassment Policy: As per the JCCF Rules Section 14. DRESS CODE: All Cadets are required to be in full training dress (ODG) during the program. If civil dress is. permitted during work hours, Cadets are expected to wear a dark-coloured pants along with a black, green, or brown T-Shirt which should be tucked in at all times. A shirt and a tie will be required for a Dinner Night held during the program. COVID-19 Protocols 1. As per JCCF Covid guidelines Important Information Safety and Emergency Procedures In case of a fire or earthquake, immediately evacuate the area and proceed to the designated assembly point. Remain calm until an authority figure arrives. Ifa cadet is injured during the program, report the matter to an adult immediately. In the event of an impending hurricane, HQ JCCF will make every effort to transport Cadets home. However, if this is not possible, parents will be required to arrange pick-up. Wage Rate and Pay Option Participants will be given a stipend of One Thousand, Five Hundred Dollars ($1,500.00) from Saturday, July 1, 2023, to Wednesday, August 23, 2023. Payments will be made by cheque afier the program ends, based on the number of days worked. Important Information about getting paid 1 2 3 ‘Your stipend will be based on the attendance register, which you must sign in and out daily; Muster attendance is required to confirm your daily presence; ‘You will be paid only for the days you have worked. To receive your stipend, you MUST have the following (@) Taxpayer Registration Number (TRN) (b) Active Bank Account (©) Valid Identification (Passport preferably) (@ Failure to have any of the above will result in disqualification from the program.
