Lesson

1 What is Exposition?

Communication, whether it is written or spoken, clears things up and

issues. Proper communication breaks down walls and builds up limitless
possibilities. If we are equipped with the proper words to use, there is no doubt
that we can express ourselves freely with minimal error. Moreover, if our way
of communication is organized and we have sound reasons with legit
evidences, there is a high possibility that we can convince our audience with
our thoughts and claims.
Communication must not be taken for granted, especially in these
trying times, because our words may be a poison to others who are already
suffering or an encouragement to the people who is trying to live their best.
This module encourages you to hone your knowledge and skills in writing an
exposition text.
This topic is just one among the thousands of ways to relay
comprehensive information, sound opinion, and fair judgement. May you find
yourself enjoying learning.

What’s In

You have been taught to write essays before - Narrative, Descriptive and
Persuasive Essays. Before you proceed, find out if you can still remember
those essays by labelling them whether narrative, descriptive or persuasive
essay.

ESSAY #1
MY MOTHER
Have you ever seen a woman who can be anything or anyone? She can
be like Spiderman at times, she doesn’t climb walls, but she is a friendly
neighborhood. She’s like Ironman, she doesn’t invent things, but she’s tough as an
iron in times of difficulties. She’s like black widow, a strong, beautiful, and
independent woman who can still spy on her family members despite of all her tasks
on hand, just to ensure everyone’s safety. But above all else, she is better known as
a mother.

ESSAY #2
THE POWER OF PRAYER
Did you know that prayer is the most powerful solution to any problem?
Let’s talk about it. If we have a problem, we tend to find the solution as
quickly as possible. We rush to ask for someone’s help, but in return, they
mock or laugh at us. We indecisively make decisions, but later, we regret it so
much and it leads to a bigger problem. We are anxious, afraid and cannot
conquer the day with positivity.
However, if we have a problem and we slowly cross the distance between
our knees and the floor, we traveled closer to the Almighty God. When we
pray, people will help us wholeheartedly. When we pray, we cannot make
hasty decisions. When we pray, even if we are experiencing a storm, we can
still be a sunshine to others, because God is in control. He cares for us and
loves us dearly. He doesn’t want us to suffer.
So next time, if you encounter a problem, even if it is as small as a
pebble, kneel first and pray, I’m telling you. It will be solved.

PURSUE THE OPENING OF CLASSES

Fear, anxiety, depression, these are just few of the negative emotions
that we feel because of the pandemic our country is suffering. It is then
expected that the moment the matter of the opening of classes was brought
up, a lot of individuals grumbled. Some people think, that it is an added
problem, but for me, I believe it is a solution. introduction

Boredom is common to the kids amidst this pandemic because they

cannot go out. Good thing, classes will start soon, so instead of watching,
playing and eating excessively, modules and online classes can provide the
children a good and productive activities to work on.

Anxiety, on the other hand is shared by every parent this pandemic

because of unemployment, unsafety, and a lot of what ifs for their family. So,
it is good news that classes will be pushed through because it may provide a
redirection to parents’ thoughts and an assurance that the future of their
children will not be hindered.

IF QUASIMODO IS ALL WE SEE

If we wake up in the morning and face the mirror, and Quasimodo is all
we see, take heart! Let us look deeper, deeper into the depth of Quasimodo’s
heart. The story The Hunchback of Notre Dame exists to remind us of
something. This amazing story, even if it was written a long time ago, still
rings with truth.

Others may think that The Hunchback of Notre Dame is just a story
but for me, I believe that it was created to give us a lesson. We often judge
others by looks. When the person is good looking, it is so hard for us to find
him or her at fault. On the other hand, if the person looks unpleasant, we
tend to think that he or she is the culprit in any inconvenience.

That is exactly how they view Quasimodo. Even if he shows kindness

and love, he is often judged wrongly. While for Frollo and Phoebus, even if
their heart is evil, people see them as saints. Well, people might see us
unworthy of attention and appreciation too because we fall short from the
standard that the society has established, but what matters is how we view
ourselves.

I do believe that individual differences must be accepted and not to be

mocked. Whether we are fat, dark skinned, short or poor we have a purpose,
because we are the masterpiece of God, and He has a perfect plan for us even
before we are born. Let us then start accepting our own differences and
encourage others to do the same.

7
What I Have Learned

On your piece of paper, put a check on the number of the statement

that you think is correct and mark if the statement is incorrect.

1. We often negate or affirm in every conversation every day.

2. Exposition can be presented as essay.
3. Introduction is needed in an exposition.
4. Using language features is not important when writing exposition
text.
5. That’s right! Is an expression we use to negate.
6. Exposition text exist for a purpose of clarity.
7. Arguments should not be supported with evidences.
8. In writing your conclusion, you need to restate your position to help
your readers make up their minds.
9. I have nothing against your point, but…. Is an expression we use to
affirm.
10. We must keep in mind and follow strictly the structural elements
when writing an exposition text.

8
What I Can Do

Identify the EXPOSITION TEXT in the following essays. Put a borderline

around the text when you find it.

ESSAY #1
The color of it amazes me, it pulls me down and force me to smell its
scent and capture it with my phone. It urges me to pluck it, but my conscience
says no. Its better if it stands alone, but it is best if it is with the rest. I’m
talking about the flowers.

ESSAY #2
The day I went down from cloud nine is the same day I met my doom.
I was so happy with my friends one day after school. We chat, we laugh so
hard on silly little things, we tell stories that doesn’t seem true at all and we
have a hard time saying goodbye to each other.
That day, it seems that the sun is teasing us, it is bright yellow when we went
out from school, yet it is bloody red when we start chatting, and the worst, it
is pitch black when I’m on my way home.
I was so happy minutes ago but then; I can’t move because of the fear
devouring me. My heart is ready to explode any minute, and my sweat seems
cold and doesn’t want to flow at all. Seeing my angry father holding a stick
and shouting something I cannot understand, everything slowed down. Not
until I feel the stinging heat on my butt, everything came back to reality. I
cried out loud and can’t stop saying sorry to my worried parents, because I
went home so late.

ESSAY #3
Did you know that school is cool, and learning is fun?
In the school, we learn new things, we discover our hidden talents, and we
acquaint to the future potentials. If we listen to our mentors, we can go to
great heights. and if we heed their words and apply it in our lives, we are ready
to conquer the world. Cool right?
Learning is fun, whether because of our friends surrounding us, or the
mistakes we made that made us laugh, or because of our teachers who
motivates us, still it’s more fun at school. Specially if you have this driving
force inside you that will cross you to different bridges of learning and meet
hundreds of possibilities. Even outside the school, learning is fun.

9
