Renault electronic certificate initialisation and user guide

1. Introduction

This manual enables you to initialise your Renault electronic certificate and explains how
to use it. Once you have completed these operations, your NOMINATIVE electronic
certificate is ready to use. This NOMINATIVE certificate is a prerequisite enabling you
to perform the following electronic repair operations on Renault and Dacia vehicles
certified EURO 5 / EURO 6:
 Reprogramming of the computers
 Automatic configuration of the computers

IMPORTANT: this document refers to a "USB key" as a USB key which stores only
private encrypted data.
It is different from a "USB storage key" which is used to transport data. Please note that
all images and photos of this document are non-contractually binding.

2. Format

2.1 .USB key and socket

2.1.1. USB socket

Recent PCs are generally fitted with USB sockets. They are located either on the front or
rear face of the PC.

If necessary, use an adapter to connect the key to the workstation.

2.1.2. Key
As indicated in the introduction to this document, USB keys store no data other than
private encrypted data enabling a secure connection to Renault applications (by
means of the Renault certificate)
Simply insert the key in the USB socket on your computer (located on the front or
rear face of the PC) and follow the instructions to identify yourself.

3.1 Initialisation procedure

You must copy the certificates on the key using the software (IDX-SCM). To download
the software, open your navigator and enter the following address:
https://mdx.dcs.renault.com/mdx
If your garage uses a proxy for its Internet connection, indicate this in the IDX-SCM
software (configuration button).

3.2 New user

Below are all the steps to be implemented to initialise a key:

You receive your blank key in your dealership together with your IPN (Identification
Personal Number) and a password.
Download and install the IDX-SCM software enabling you to read and write on the
card from the address https://mdx.dcs.renault.com/mdx/
 Execute the IDX-SCM software:
Connect the card or key to the workstation
Enter your IPN and the password communicated by Renault.

The certificate is then copied onto the user's card.

Select a new password for the card or key in compliance with the security rules
defined for setting the password (6 characters, including at least 3 of the following

types of character: lower case, upper case, numbers and special characters –
examples: RNet01, Renault2009 etc.)

4. Use
You can now access the Renault electronic repair applications which require the Renault
electronic certificate (reprogramming and automatic configuration). To do this:
The user inserts his/her key in the USB port and enters the password corresponding
to the key when s/he launches either the reprogramming module or the automatic
configuration module (you can also wait for the different applications to ask to you
to insert the key with the Renault electronic certificate).
 - The user enters the password corresponding to the key

The card or key must remain inserted in the workstation for the user to be able to work

5. What to do in the following cases?

5.1 The key does not work

5.2 The key is locked

5.2.1 Why is a key locked?

After 5 incorrect passwords have been entered, the authentication certificate is
automatically deactivated and the key is said to be locked.

5.2.2 How to unlock your key

Contact your Renault contact partner: [email protected]. Your contact
partner will send you an unlocking code. Launch IDX-SCM, select the "unlock card and
change PIN code" option and enter the unlocking code.

Remember: respect the security rules when setting a new password (6 characters,
including at least 3 of the following types of character: lower case, upper case, numbers
and others)

5.3 How to change a password

You can change the password if, for example, you think that another user knows your
password or if, for other valid reasons, you think that it is necessary to change your
password. Follow the same procedure as in section 5.2.2 "How to unlock your key"
Launch IDX-SCM, select the "change password" option.

Remember: respect the security rules when setting a new password (6 characters,
including at least 3 of the following types of character: lower case, upper case, numbers
and others)

5.4 Forgotten your card/key?

If you have forgotten your USB key, you can nevertheless connect to your PC using your
Windows password; however, you cannot use the electronic repair applications requiring
the Renault electronic certificate.

5.5 Loss or theft of your key

In the event of the loss or theft of your key, you must immediately:
Inform [email protected] who will freeze access to your old key. To
obtain a new key, order a new Renault electronic certificate via the Renault InfoTech web
site: http://www.infotech.renault.com

5.6 Renewing the Renault electronic certificate

Your certificate is active for a period of two years from the date the request is filed.
