Chapter I
THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

Background of the Study

In these changing times, students are more driven towards using a mobile phone
for every purpose. A smartphone they call it. The world is at the fingertips and a
student can get access to any information from anywhere. This reduces the
chance of visiting a library and searching for the data. A mobile phone hence can
be used for a number of such purposes. What makes the information easily
available is mobile applications. Every mobile app has a unique feature which
offers its own set of services.
Now, however, it is possible to reach out to all of them. School communication
apps make it possible to impart information to every student; they can inform
them about new schedules, different forums, various conferences, and social
school activities.
Learning is a continuous process and the focus has now completely shifted to
eLearning. Due to the mobile phones and the various feature-oriented
applications, students can learn at their pace and take their time at
understanding things, as everything is just a click away.
The implementation of applications in the education sector has resulted in the
adoption of new learning methods. There are enjoyable games available on
mobile applications that engage students in a healthy thought process and assist
them in understanding things from a new perspective. Students nowadays are
generally fond of online learning. This is where library and book search apps
come into play. These applications make it simple for students to find relevant
study material in the mobile application. It keeps them closer to the study
material and aids in the organization of their study materials on the internet.
Education is a very dynamic field, with new information being added on a daily
basis. There are educational apps that provide up-to-date information. An
educational app that teaches students general knowledge. Students can broaden
their knowledge and boost their credibility by using these educational apps.
Teachers, too, use these apps to keep their students up to date on current
events. This improves the overall quality of education provided in schools. The
new method of learning has altered how a student perceives information.
The assignments are given in every field of study. Sometimes, it becomes very
difficult to complete the assignment although you have all the knowledge of the
product. These apps make the process of studying easy for students. The app is
going to suggest an easy way of doing the assignment once you choose the
subject you are going for. This is going to save students a lot of time.
Students will now not be worried about missing any lecture. They can easily track
the lecture in the app and keep themselves updated with their curriculum. This
has actually decreased the burden on students as they can easily access the
information on various subjects through apps. If they are unable to understand it
at once, they can take the lecture again.
Students do not have to copy the lectures; this will save them a great deal of
time. There is no hierarchy education system when it comes to learning from an
app. With mobile education apps, any child can access any kind of information,
even if it is out of their syllabus. They can even learn things from higher
standards if they want to. Apart from school education, they can search for any
kind of information they are interested in. Mobile education apps are making the
students hungry for information.
The education apps are not only improving the education system in the world but
are also making the student smarter. It is the most synchronized way of learning
and it is also available for everyone, either rich or poor. Although it has
revolutionized the global education system, other surprises are about to happen
as regards this innovation.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES
Related Literature
With the improvement of science and technology and the popularization of the
internet, offline teaching and multimedia teaching are standing out compared to
traditional teaching. This paper summarizes the design content and requirements
of physical education teaching in an offline learning system, designs the
framework and core module for offline teaching according to the requirements of
a college physical education curriculum, and finally designs the offline learning
system for the physical education curriculum. This system can meet students'
offline learning requirements and, in some aspects, is compatible with an online
learning mode based on SCORM standards. Empirical study of the system's
operation and application proves that an offline learning system for a physical
education curriculum has significant teaching effects. (Xiaoyan Zhong
International Journal of Emerging Technologies in Learning . 2015, Vol. 10 Issue
5, p35-39. 5p. 2 Color Photographs, 1 Diagram, 3 Charts.)

An educational application or essentially an 'educational app' is a product

program coordinated with learning materials that can be downloaded and
introduced on cell phones or tablets. Educational applications permit students to
get to content anyplace, whenever. Cell phones and tablets with touch screen
offices have expanded the prevalence of educational apps among students,
educators, and guardians. Albeit many examinations have been led on
educational applications, not very many scientists have endeavored to recognize
the inspirations for utilizing instructive applications.

Numerous specialists focused on that scholarly help is one of the key delights
that inspire students to embrace educational applications. For instance, Camilleri
and Camilleri directed a subjective report with the assistance of semi-organized
up close and personal meetings with students between 6-and 8 years old in
Malta. Their review results showed that albeit scholastic help is the essential
inspiration driving educational apps, students additionally revealed that intuitive
and drawing in educational applications had worked on their scholarly ability.
Camilleri and Camilleri additionally suggest the gamification of educational apps
as numerous students communicated that engaging substance likewise
persuades them while picking educational applications.

According to the Republic Act No. 10650 Sections, 1&2 or the Open Distance
Learning Act stated that,
“It is hereby declared the policy of the State to expand and further,
democratize access to quality tertiary education through the promotion and
application of open learning as a philosophy of access to educational services,
and the use of distance education as an appropriate, efficient and effective
system of delivering quality higher and technical educational services in the
country.”

In this manner, everybody can profit from utilizing Educational Applications,

particularly the students and instructors. The applications assist instructors with
advancing the interest of students in the homeroom exercises and supporting
their inspiration and execution. These applications will permit them to acquire
fundamental instructive prerequisites. In conclusion, RA 10650 was going to give
access to scholastic administrations and it isn't possible without EA since it gives
an option most straightforward apparatus for learning. ( Uses and gratifications

College Teaching”. This paper summarizes design contents and requirements of
physical education teaching system in offline learning system, designs the
framework and core module of offline learning system teaching according to
requirements of college physical education curriculum and finally succeeds in
designing offline learning system of college physical education curriculum. This
system can meet students’ offline learning requirements and is compatible with

Tan and Liu (2004), “The Mobile-Based Interactive Learning Environment
(MOBILE) and A Case Study for Assisting Elementary School English Learning”.
This paper describes the architecture of our proposed mobile learning
environment MOBILE for assisting instruction and assessment in elementary
school. The mobile learning system is used for managing all learning activities
and the mobile learning tools (m-Tools) is used for executing learning activities
that will be introduced.
The proposed mobile learning environment developed is based on wireless and
information technologies. Several planned to provide interesting mobile learning
materials and activities in- or outside the classroom. English Learning materials
and activities for elementary school will be illustrated here. We explore the
influence of learning effects about students after apply experiments. And we
expect that with the help of the MOBILE, the enhancements of students’ learning
interest and motivation are promising.
Llanes, J. (2020), “Offline modules 'effective' for Cordillera”. Pilot testing for the
new learning delivery modalities in select schools in Baguio City, Benguet
Province and other parts of the region was done by DepEd, as it initially assessed
the offline module as the more favorable system for Cordilleras. The offline
module of learning consists of the use of learning instructional content materials
uploaded on USBs, CDs and printed worksheet materials, which learners can use
over and over depending on what the subjects require. The said pilot testing is
part of DepEd’s learning continuity plan, which once conducted, the teachers
would retrieve the accomplishments of the students for the education experts to
give feedback and evaluation to come up with improvement mechanisms.
Shrestha, Sujan & Moore, J.P.T. & Abdelnour Nocera, José. (2010), “Offline
mobile learning for ICT4D”. This paper aims to highlight the possible role of
previously unexplored open platforms for delivering affordable and sustainable
mobile learning offline. Based on thorough analysis of current tools, technologies
and research, this paper discusses considerable challenges to support an offline
scenario. The major technical issues are constrained locked-down hardware and
proprietary software. While open platforms can overcome such problems, this
paper points out the need for a broader study to investigate its potential role in
developing countries.
The development of an offline system for mobile learning is materially different
than the development of off-line e-learning. A variety of mobile devices with
capabilities that vary device to device creates a problem from an application
developers' perspective when it comes to developing native applications. It is
also difficult to transfer all types of LMS (Learning Management Systems) to
mobile handsets due to the fact that both the hardware and software on mobile
handsets have inherent limitations in running a multi-functional LMS.
Hillier, Mathew. (2017). “Bridging the digital divide with an off-line e-learning and
e-assessment platform”. This paper explores a proposal for an off-line e-learning
platform that will provide a pathway for digitally disconnected students and
educators to join the contemporary ICT intensive world. For individual remote
and disconnected learners this represents a chicken and egg problem for
engagement with contemporary e-learning offerings. Without the connectivity
available to begin, remote learners have no way of engaging with now common
ICT intensified learning materials that can teach them how to engage in ICT
intensive world! The paper takes systems approach to considering the problem,
encompassing the nature of hardware, connectivity, economics, support and
skills available in remote and developing regions.
The solution aims to fit into the world we have, and not one we wish we had in
terms of infrastructure. It places contemporary digital learning courses onto a
portable and independent e-learning environment that is not reliant on a
constant network or Internet connection to function. The toolset uses free and
open source components and can run on a range of legacy equipment making it
economically accessible.
An Offline Learning Platform fulfills the objectives of availability, facility, and
flexibility, making the LMS Platform a tool more and more. Offline learning is one
of the characteristics in which Paradiso LMS has worked to make this a reality.
With the offline learning option of Paradiso LMS the problem of having your
contents, features, activities and general functions of the eLearning platform
available, without having to be connected to the internet, is solved.

the study that will identify and assess the effects, impact, and how our app can
help grade 11 students. It also provides recommendations that can be helpful to
the students.
The study was conducted by grade 12 STEM students. The respondents were
only 10 grade 11 students that voluntarily chosen.

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS
The findings of the study were summarized according to the statement of the
problems stated in Chapter 1.

2. Do they have stable internet a connection

The group of students who answered or said Yes was about 70%, While the
group of students who answered Not was about 30%.

The data reveals that most of our respondents are having a stable internet
connection, while some respondents don’t.

3. What are the devices that students use

The group of students who answered or choose Cellphone was about 70%,
While the group of students who answered Laptop was about 30%

The data reveals that we, therefore, conclude that majority of students are using
phones and some students are using laptops.
4. In what way do they think that the offline module app helps

The group of students who answered Time was about 50%, while the group of
students who answered School was about 30%, and the group of students. who
answered Financial was about 20%

The data reveals that 50% of our respondents said that the offline module for
practical research might help them manage their time, 30% helps them in school
and 20% in financial.

5. Is this offline module app going to make it easier for students to

learn their lessons?

The group of students who answered Maybe was about 60%, while the group of
students who answered Yes was about 20% and the group of students. Who
answered No was about 20%.

The data reveals that some of the students think that the offline module for
practical research is going to make the learning experience easier and some are
not, while the majority answered maybe.

CONCLUSIONS
Based on the findings of the study, the following conclusions are drawn:
1. The respondents say 70% of students said that they have a stable Internet
connection, and the 30% said that they’re not, the students who don’t have a
stable internet connection must have a way of studying even though they’re not
using the internet.
2. The results show that if they chose to be in a modular learning system
because they lack finances, even though they are conserving money, they can
still study without spending a lot of money.
3. The findings revealed that in this kind of situation, they don’t need to use
so many devices to study, only one device can help them study offline.
4. The researchers surely know that this application is very useful for every
student even if they’re an online learning system or modular learning system.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Based on the findings and conclusion presented, the following recommendations

are suggested:

1. The researchers create and recommend an application where students can

study using only an offline application, that can easily help them in their studies.

2. The researchers recommend to just sending the app thru Bluetooth

because most of the students told the researchers that they haven’t a stable
internet connection, so once they receive the application, they can use it offline
without even using their internet.

3. The researchers recommend that this application has a lot of information

about Senior High School students in the research topic that hey can make their
study easier because this is an offline application and it has the topics that you
needed and can help students.

4. The researchers recommend that they can comprehend using this

application and they can also share this with other students in different schools
so it can be useful to every SHS student. And instead of studying thru searching
in Google, this will be on their app in just one click and very easy to use.
