LEARNING ACTIVITY SHEET

School and Community Resources in Case of an Injury or Emergency
Background Information:
In performing physical activities, it is a must that everyone should observe personal
safety protocols. As an organizer of any fitness event/activity it is a protocol that before you
start the program, there should always be proper coordination to the different
school/community resources in case of emergency, immediate and efficient response will be
expected.

For immediate and efficient response when needed, the following protocol must be
observed at the start of classes/physical activities:

1. Know where the school, classroom, buildings, and/or other venue exits are.
2. Familiarize yourself with the school/place; know where the open areas are.
3. Determine where the guardhouse is located.
4. Find the location of the nearest clinic.
5. Be aware of similar facilities that are nearest to the school/place.
6. Have all emergency numbers ready at all times.

Facing an emergency or being injured at school or in the community can be scary.

The usual reaction is for people involved in an accident to either panic or be in a state of
shock. Each community ideally has infrastructures that are present to deal with injuries or
emergencies. A hospital or a clinic is usually accessible. In other places, a rural health unit is
also available.

Available School or Community Resources for Emergency Medical Issues

1. School Clinic – the clinic is usually staffed with a nurse who can provide basic care.
2. Community Hospitals – these are the primary hospitals in the area responsible for
emergency care. More complicated cases can be referred to tertiary hospitals.
3. Private Clinics – for those who can afford, they usually go to private clinics.
4. Ambulances – Barangays were given either a Patrol or Ambulance that could convey
an injured to the nearest medical facility.

Help is just around the corner, so there should be no cause to panic.

Activity II: What I Know…

Directions: Analyze the situation given and answer the questions that follow.
Your PE teacher gave your class a performance task to come up with
various zumba routines good for 15 minutes. After your teacher divided your
class into groups he instructed you to have your practice in the quadrangle and
in other open areas of your school. In the middle of your practice, one of your
group mates accidentally strained her ankle. She was crying for help because
she could not handle the pain anymore. You told your teacher about what
happened and your teacher asked you to go to the clinic and ask the School
Nurse to attend to your injured classmate. But, the School Nurse wasn’t
around the school’s vicinity and your PE teacher cannot leave your injured
classmate because she is panicking.

Questions:
1. What would be the most appropriate thing that you would do? Describe in detail.
2. Who are the people accountable in the situation? Why?
