E Description

Engagement The teacher will present a slide with pictures of two women to catch the student's
attention. (One is from 1890, and the other is from 1990). The teacher will ask the
students to reflect on the images and answer two questions. After a set time, the teacher
will lead a discussion and ask students to share their thoughts. After a detailed, thought-
provoking conversation, the teacher will play a video from “Today” about the changing
role of women in America.

Engagement The teacher will assess the student's level of engagement by observing their
Assessment participation during class discussion and their answers to the warm-up questions
comparing the two women.

Exploration The teacher will lead a discussion concerning credible and noncredible resources. A
short video to reiterate the debate will be shown following a discussion led by the
teacher.
Each group will be assigned a significant woman in American history to investigate.
While students will work together, they are responsible for completing their notes and
sources for the chosen influential woman. AVL will be suggested as a place to start
compiling credible information.

Exploration The teacher will assess the student's comprehension of the material by reviewing their
Assessment notes and confirming that they are progressing in the right direction with credible
sources.

Explanation The teacher will give students a note organizer and a resource to facilitate their ongoing
research. After identifying credible sources, students will use the note organizer to collect
information about their assigned influential woman. The teacher will present an example
note guide for a significant woman to help students grasp the expectations for their note
organizer. This modeling process will assist students in understanding how to organize
information effectively. They will utilize the notes and resources obtained during their
exploration phase to complete the note organizer.
