THE GENERATION GAP
DEFINITION
A gender gap, a relative disparity between people
of different genders, is reflected in a variety of
sectors in many societies. There exist differences
between men and women as reflected in social,
political, intellectual, cultural, scientific or
economic attainments or attitudes.
TYPES OF GENERATIONS
The Greatest Generation – born 1901-
1927.
The Silent Generation – born 1928-1945.
The Baby Boomer Generation – born
1946-1964.
Generation X – born 1965-1980.
Millennials – born 1981-1996.
Generation Z – born 1996-2012.
Gen Alpha – born 2013 – 2025.
GENERATION GAP CAN ALSO CREATES
TECHNOLOGICAL GAP
REASONS
AGE
The age difference between young people, their parents, and grandparents. For example, the
beliefs and perceptions of those who grew up during World War II may be different from those
who grew up in the 1960.
MENTAL GAP
The mental gap in terms of thinking pattern and current trends. Children believe that they are
grown-ups and it is high time for them to be independent.
COMMUNICATION GAP
Children being very young and immature do not understand the way of thinking of their parents. In
many cases, the parents, even if they are matured, do not empathize with the changing values and
thinking pattern of the modern world.
CAUSES
Different maturity levels
Different life experiences
Different values
Different priorities
Different communication styles
Different attitudes towards life
Different causes they stand for
Different technological advancements
Different nuclear family concept
Different work commitments
PEOPLE POINT OF VIEW
It is the responsibility of both generations to
fill this gap with love, affection, and trust.
Both generations should have mutual respect
for the views and opinions that they uphold
and advance cautiously with the development
of society.
EFFECTS
Differences in upbringing, education, technology, societal values,
and major historical events.
Changes in communication styles, social norms, and cultural
influences.
In society
Generation gaps can exist around the world, but they can be
especially intense in countries like India where families continue to live
together.
IN THE WORK PLACE
According to Deloitte, different generations' approaches to technology, communication, and
work ethics can make it difficult for them to work together. A large generation gap can also
lead to conflicts, poor performance, and low morale, which can lower productivity.
OVERCOMING GENERATION GAP
1.Encouraging multi-generational
team working.
2.The best way to get people to accept
each other's differences is to get them to
work together. ...
3. Establishing clear cultural values. ...
4.Embedding technology that drives
collaboration. ...
5.Communicating at all levels. HOW TO PREVENT IT ?
CONCLUSION
The generation gap is an issue that can be resolved smoothly if both generations
try to understand each other views and opinions. Parents should try to maintain a
friendly attitude with their children. They must appreciate their innovative ideas.

Also, the children should share some time with their parents. Moreover, they
should communicate their ideas and parents should take the time to understand
their viewpoints. Children should also accept the valuable guidelines given by
their parents.
CLOSE THE GAP
The Close the Gap Campaign aims to close the health and life expectancy gap
between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous
Australians within a generation
