1. INTRODUCTION
Based on the Architectural plans, section & elevation of architectural drawing (Ref.
Drawing No. Given Below) by CPWD, the Purposed Campus for NIPER (National
Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research) at Panihati, Kolkata). In this brief
report we are presenting the data and assumptions related to analysis, Designing and
Detailing the project, which has lead to the detailed structure design at construction stage.

6.) Preparation of AutoCAD Drawing for Approval/Advance Copy for approval from
Client and any Institution body.
7.) Preparation of final AutoCAD working drawing after the approval of client.

3. DESCRIPTION OF THE STRUCTURE AND STRUCTURAL SYSTEM

The proposed Educational building (G+4) storied structure. This building planned with
two staircase. Structural system of this building is basically Ordinary Moment resisting
frame systems consist of Column, Beam & Slabs to resist vertical and lateral loads.

4. FOUNDATION SYSTEM

Foundation design based on the recommendation of soil testing report provided by Kolkata
Central Division-II, Kolkata which is conducted by G.Tech India, Netaji Block, Chowhati,
South 24 Pgs, Kolkata. Pile foundation is provided as per the recommendation of soil
testing agency at a depth of 1.5m with an allowable bearing pressure of 5-7 T/m2 form
shear and settlement criteria.

5. DESIGN DATA FOR CONCRETE

Compressive strength of concrete, fck = 30 N/mm2 (For foundation, column, beam


& slab)
Concrete density = 24 kN/m3
Brick Density = 19 kN/m3

Concrete cover to the rebar is as follows (As per IS – 456: 2016: Plain & RCC Code of
Practice)

a) Foundation = 50mm
b) Columns = 40mm
c) Beams = 25mm
d) Slabs = 20mm
Modulus of Elasticity of Concrete, Ec = 5000√fck
Concrete Poisson's ratio = 0.20
 REINFORCEMENT
Reinforced steel yield strength, fy = 500N/mm2
Modulus of elasticity of steel, Es = 2.05X108 kN/mm2

6. ALLOWABLE DEFLECTIONS (As Per IS 456: 2000)

a) The final deflection due to dead loads and live loads (un-factored) including effects of
temperature, creep & shrinkage measured as cast levels of supports is not more than
Span/250.

b) The deflection including effects of temperature, creep & shrinkage after erection of
Partitions and the application of finishes is not more than span/350 or 20mm, whichever
Is less.

Lateral Frame Deflection (Story Drift) Under Seismic Load (1893(part-1):2016)

Story Drift in any storey shall not exceed 0.004 times the Storey height, under the action
Of design base of shear VB with no load factors.

7. METHOD OF ANALYSIS

a) Building shall be analyzed as RCC framed structure. Static analysis shall be carried
out as per IS 1893:2016. The beams and columns frame arrangement and design shall
be done using STAAD.Pro V8i (SELECT Series 6) version 20.07.11.82.
b) All the RCC columns of the building are supported on Pile foundation as per the
bearing capacity as specified by soil investigation report provided to us. The
foundation is typically designed for the reaction obtained from predominant load case,
by using in house spread sheet and STAAD software.
c) Serviceability & strength checks of foundation & members shall be carried out as per
IS 456: 2016

8. SEISMIC DESIGN CRITERIA


Seismic loads are calculated as per provisions of IS: 1893-2016.
The parameters selected are given below:-

Fundamental natural time period is taken as Ta =0.09h/√d as per clause 7.6.2 of IS: 1893-
2016, for R.C.C Frame Building. h = Height of building in meter. [Refer fig. 5(a)]. Response
Spectrum reduction factor is taken as 5.0 from table-9 of IS: 1893-2016 for Moment
Resisting Frames. The Time period of the structure has been worked out using software. The
building shall be designed for base shear based on code time period in accordance with clause
7.7.3 of IS: 1893-2016 using modification factor = V̅B/VB where ,VB is calculated base shear
based on code time period Ta =0.09h/√d and VB is calculated base shear based on time
period given by software. The horizontal earthquake force has been calculated for the full
dead load & Reduce live load as per clause 7.3.1 Table-10 of IS: 1893-2016. Importance
Factor of 1.5 has been considered as per Clause 7.2.3(ii) of IS 1893:2016.

9. SIZE OF BEAM & COLUMN

a) PROPOSED BEAM AS PER FRAMING = 300x450, 250x450, 450x450, 250x150

b) PROPOSED COLUMN AS PER FRAMING = 350x450, 450x600

10. DESIGN & DETAILING OF RCC STRUCTURE


The design of RCC Slab has been done using IS: 456-2016 & SP-16. Limit state method of
structure design has been followed. Columns and beams have been designed using STAAD.
Software. As frame model is designed for a response reduction factor (RF=5) considering the
clause 7.2.6 & table 9 of 1893:2016. Ductile detailing for columns & beams have been done
as per IS 13920:2016.

11. LOAD COMBINATIONS FOR CONCRETE DESIGN OF STRUCTURAL


ELEMENTS

The limit state load combinations used for design of concrete structural elements such as
beams & columns are as per IS: 875 Part 5 and IS: 456. They are listed below.
Various load combinations considered are as follows:-

However un-factored loads (Load 8 to12) are used for evaluating the size of foundation &
pressure calculations for foundation design.

12. GEOTECHNICAL DATA & NET SAFE BEARING CAPACITY


Geotechnical report
Foundation design has to be based on the geotechnical investigation report. The net Safe
bearing capacity of soil is taken as per “SOIL TEST REPORT” provided by the
department reproduced below in table:-

13. MODEL & SOFTWARE USED


The buildings has been analyzed as a 3-dimensional structure of beam column frame
structure using STAAD. Foundation has been designed using Excel sheet and STAAD.
Software. Soil Bearing Capacity of soil has been taken as per soil report provided.

Dead load of slab on horizontal span = (4 x sqrt. (1502 + 3002) / 300)
= 4.470kN/m
Dead Load of one step = 0.5 x 0.15 x 0.3 x 30 = 0.675kN/m
Load of steps/m length = 0.563 x (1000/300) = 1.877kN/m
Finishes = 0.6kN/m
Total Dead Load = 6.412kN/m

15. Reinforcing steel specification


Reinforcing steel to be used in this project is T.M.T. bars of grade Fe500D corresponding to
0.2% proof stress having (minimum yield stress) 500 N/mm². The reinforcing steel should
have a minimum elongation percentage of 14.5% as per IS 13920:2016. Steel reinforcement
resisting earthquake induced force in RC frame members & in boundary elements of RC
structure walls shall comply with all the provision as per clause 5.3.1, 5.3.2, & 5.3.3 of IS
13920:2016.
