Paragraphs
The same language, a different world? (title)
Although British and American people make use of the
same system of communication; that is to say, English;
there can be some differences in the way they speak this
language. First of all, the pronunciation may be a little bit
different. For instance, British people do not pronounce
the /r/ sound at the end of words. Thus, while American
people pronounce the word “better” as /berer/, British
people say something like /betah/. Also, vocabulary
varies from one dialect to the other. The British words
“flat, trousers and sweets” are the equivalents for
“apartment, pants and candies” in American English.
Finally, even spelling can be different. While in the UK
the word “analyse” is written with “s”, in the USA this
word is known as “analyze” with “z”. As noticed, even
though British and Americans speak the same language,
the variations can be different sometimes.
