Sba Sample - Csec Math

This document contains a summary of a student's mathematics school-based assessment (SBA) project. The project investigated whether the distance students live from school impacts their punctuality. Data was collected through questionnaires given to 21 students from Anchovy High School. The summary outlines the project topic, data collection methods, presentation of results in graphs and charts, an analysis of the findings, a discussion of the results, and conclusions drawn from the data. It was found that students living closest in St. James arrived on time, while those living farthest in Westmoreland tended to arrive late. The document also includes an appendix with the draft questionnaire used to collect data.

Project Topic

An Investigation in order to determine if the distance that a student lives from the
school has an impact on their punctuality.

Introduction

Students arriving at school late is an everyday problem that occurs at the Anchovy

high school. As a result of such we as young researchers have decided to find out the

cause of their lateness. Therefore we have chosen this topic to carry out an

investigation in order to determine if the distance that a student lives from the school

has an impact on their punctuality. As young researchers we are aiming to find out

how far a student lives from school, the number of transportation taken, what time
they arrive at school and if transportation is easy to access at their residing area.

Method of Data Collection

A questionnaire is a research instrument that consists of a set of questions or other

types of prompts that aims to collect information from a respondent. A research

questionnaire is typically a mix of close-ended questions and open-ended questions.

The purpose of a questionnaire is to gather data from a target audience. The method of

data collection used to collect data was Questionnaire. Data was collected from

students of Anchovy High School. These data includes:

● Parish
● Time
● Amount of drive to be taken
● Traffic
● Accessibility of Transportation
● The distance in which a student lives from the school.

Analysis of the data

Bar graph showing the parish where students live

In the bar graph above it shows the parish in which each respondent lives from the

school. The bar graph also shows that out of the twenty one response that was received

it shows that 13 (61.9%) respondents are living in the parish of St. James followed by 5

(23.8%) respondents who live in westmoreland. This shows that the majority of the

students live close to the school followed by 23.8%.

7
Pie chart showing the time students leave out for school
In the pie chart that is presented above. Shows the different responses from students

based on what time they normally leave from their home to arrive at school. In the red

section of the pie chart it shows the percentage of 38.1 students who leave their

homes at 6:30 am. Following a

pattern from the orange section around to the blue section which shows 23.8% (7:00)

and 19% ( 7:30 and 6:00) respectively.

8
Pie chart showing the time students arrive at school

The following graph above demonstrates the time at which students arrive on the
school compound. Majority of the students normally arrive at school at 7:30 or 7:45
which is in the percentage of 81%.

9
Bar graph showing the distance students live from school
The graph above depicts the following data where 58.8% of the students which is
equivalent to

10 residing areas are in St. James and the distance at which they live from the school is

13.23km. Followed by respondents who live in westmoreland whose distance from the

school is 50km with a population of 35.3% (6 students). It also shows 0% from the

parish of Trelawny and st. Elizabeth which clearly tells us that none of the respondents

are from Trelawny and St. Elizabeth and one respondent who lives in Hanover.

Discussion of findings
10
In thoroughly analyzing the data that have been collected. It shows a pattern where the

highest number of respondents who live in st. James with a population of 61.9% leave

their homes at 6:30 and arrive at school on time at 7:30 or 7: 45 am in the mornings and

distance from the school is 13.23km which is the nearest point from school. While the

second highest respondent is from Westmoreland with a percentage of 23.8% of

students lives at a distance of 50 km which is farthest from the school leaves home at

7:00 and arrives at school at 8:00 or later. Also respondents who lives in hanover and

Trelawny leave home at 6:30 and 7:00 respectively and arrive at school at 8:00

Conclusion

11
In carrying out this research on the topic, ‘An Investigation in order to determine if the
distance that a student lives from the school has an impact on their punctuality.’ The

data that have been gathered and analyzed have proven to show that this distance at

which the student lives from the

school does have an impact on their punctuality. The majority who live in st. james

and westmoreland arrive at school on time while the minority who lives the farthest

from school arrive at school late ,
