Last summer I stayed in London with a good friend of mine for several weeks. (1)___ I was feeling a bit depressed
because of that and I needed a break from it all.
One day my friend, who was also single, suggested going to a speed dating event in one of the clubs nearby. ‘Why not?’
I said. I decided not to wear any smart clothes, just jeans and a sports top. My friend took the matter more seriously,
though. (2)___
When we arrived at the club, most of the people were already there. The organisers quickly explained the rules. The
women would be seated at the tables while the men would move from one table to another, chatting to each of the
women for four minutes. A bell would ring to signal the end of each quick date.
It was a funny and interesting experience. Two of the guys seemed to think they were making a huge impression on the
girls. What arrogance! Another one was too shy to make a sensible conversation. (3)___ I ticked their names on my list.
After the event I learnt that that these guys had also put my name on their lists. I got their email addresses so that we
