The health teaching plan aims to educate a client on proper waste disposal. It identifies the client's current challenges with improper waste management practices that attract pests and can spread disease. The plan outlines learning objectives, content, and evaluation methods to teach the client about defining proper disposal, discussing inadequate practices and their health effects, and identifying techniques like segregation and recycling. The goal is for the client to independently practice proper disposal to enhance well-being and prevent transmission of illnesses.

I. Topic: Enhancing the health and well-being through proper waste disposal

II. Purpose:
a. To educate the client on the importance of proper waste disposal practices to
inhibit the transmission of illnesses and enhance general well-being.
b. To highlight how proper waste disposal are essential in preventing the spread of
infectious and waterborne diseases, such as cholera, malaria and dengue.
c. To encourage the client to independently practice proper waste disposal.

III. Venue: Punta Balas North, Brgy. Pahanocoy, Bacolod City

A. Baseline Data

Name: Marie Jo-anne Setias Age: 22 Sex: Female

Address:
Purok Punta Balas North, Brgy. Pahanocoy, Bacolod City, Negros Occidental

Assessment of the Client

Client M.J.S resides in a humble concrete-wood home in a quiet neighborhood in Punta

Balas North, barangay Pahanocoy. The client encountered significant challenges related to
improper waste disposal in her home. Moreover, according to the client instead of sorting and
disposing waste responsibly, she chooses the ease of putting everything in one big plastic bag.
Sometimes, this bag ends up outside, creating an unsightly mess in the front and side areas of
house. Additionally, the trash bag is sometimes left open, and the dog litters it. Unfortunately,
this approach has consequences beyond appearances. Inside the client’s home, the accumulating
waste attracts unwelcome guests like cockroaches and rats, as stated by client. These intruders
not only bring health risks but also disrupt the peaceful living environment. Further, the client
added she resorts to burning the waste, contributing to air pollution and engages in open
dumping, making the environmental impact even worse. Adding to the challenge is the state of
the client’s sanitation facilities. The home has a toilet without water tanks, making it difficult to
maintain proper hygiene and manage waste effectively. Therefore, the challenges associated with
waste disposal may eventually result to the spread of infectious diseases, such as cholera,
malaria, lassa fever, and diarrhea (Omang, 2021).

4. Content: (Based on the content outline)

1.1 Definition of waste disposal

Waste disposal involves organized and systematic management, including the collection,
transportation, and disposal of materials, with the aim of mitigating environmental impact and
potential health risks. Proper waste disposal is fundamental for a clean and healthy environment,
preventing pollution of air, water, and soil that can adversely affect ecosystems and human
health. Responsible waste management practices, such as segregation and recycling, are
imperative to achieve these goals and contribute to sustainable waste management. Ultimately,
waste disposal is not merely about discarding unwanted items; it is a comprehensive strategy to
protect the environment, curb the spread of diseases, and ensure the well-being of communities
for present and future generations.

1.2. Brief overview of the significance of proper waste disposal in environmental and public
health
The significance of this practice lies in preventing pollution of air, water, and soil, averting
the release of harmful chemicals that can affect ecosystems and wildlife, while also mitigating
habitat destruction and preserving biodiversity. From a public health standpoint, responsible
waste disposal is crucial to curb the spread of diseases, as inadequately managed waste can
harbor pathogens and attract disease vectors, posing risks to communities. Adopting proper
waste disposal practices creates a cleaner living environment, reducing the likelihood of
waterborne and vector-borne illnesses.

2.1. Overview of the lists of inadequate waste management practices and its effects on
health
Improper waste disposal poses a range of significant problems with far-reaching consequences
for both the environment and public well-being.

Some of the major issues associated with inadequate waste management include:

1. Waste Burning
2. Illegal dumping
3. Dumpsite overflow

Diseases effects on health

1. Dengue Fever
2. Cholera

2.1. Explore techniques for proper waste management and disposal

Proper waste management is essential for maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
Techniques for effective waste management involve methods such as segregation, where waste is
sorted into categories like recyclables and organic materials. Recycling is another crucial
technique that transforms materials into new products, reducing the need for raw materials and
minimizing environmental impact. Community education plays a key role, promoting awareness
about responsible waste disposal practices and encouraging participation. Implementing these
techniques collectively fosters sustainable waste management, contributing to the well-being of
communities and the preservation of our planet.
