Persuasive Essay On Prescription Drugs
Clayton Mills

English III

We need to stop the abuse
Even though people need their prescriptions, the abuse of them is getting out of control
and we need to find a way to regulate it better, because it can destroy a family, cause
some to become addicted, or even kill them. Prescription drugs are no joke, they can be
worse than illegal drugs like marijuana, cocaine, and even heroin. The only difference is
a doctor can prescribe these types of drugs. The problem we run into with prescription
drugs is there is not enough being done to keep the person from becoming addicted or
them selling to others. In 2007 2.5 million Americans abused just painkillers (Drug free
world). That is not even including the other two types. Now it is starting to affect teens,
one out of every ten teenagers admit to abusing a prescribed drug(Drug free world).
There are three types of prescribed abused drugs: opioids, depressants, and stimulants.
The most powerful is opioids. Opioids are used to block out pain. Some of these
include opanas, oxycontin, and roxicodone, and 5.1 million Americans abuse them
regularly (Drugabuse.gov). Some of those pills can cost any where from five dollars a
pill all the way up to ninety dollars a pill (Drugs a z) and could even cost more than
that depending on where you live. Some of the street names can be roxy, o.p.s, oxy,
and captain coden(Drug abuse.gov). ´ At the age of 20, I became an addict to a
narcotic, which began with a prescription following a surgery.¨´ James. People normally
become addicted to painkillers because of doctor giving them prescriptions after a major
surgery.
The second most commonly abused prescribed drug is sedatives/depressants. These
types of pills are used for anxiety and sleeping. If these types of prescriptions are
abused it can make the person really high and not remember what they are doing.
Signs can be excessive sleepiness, slurred speech, and acting really mean
(Davis).people usually look for this kind of drug because they are depressed and the
want to try to hide something in their life. This drug slows down the heartbeat so if
someone takes to many it can cause their heart to stop. The two most commonly abuse
depressants are valium and
How Should I Prepare Your Enterprise For The Increased...
How should I prepare my enterprise for the increased adoption of cloud services After
tried and tested the Cloud computing infrastructure for provisioning test and
development workloads, the obvious question comes to your mind will be, what next,
how would I further increase the adoption of cloud services in my enterprise. Cloud
services can make huge competitive advantages to the enterprise companies, if the
applications are correctly architected to satisfy the business requirements. Some
enterprises don t fully understand while embracing new technologies, as they rush into
development mode and forgo the necessary architecture and design changes needed in
their IT landscape. Sometimes they also have unrealistic expectations like... Show more

Often management, or even the architects are so starstruck by the success of
companies like Netflix and Uber that they expect similar results, an outcome they
most likely can t achieve even if they do a good job in architecting. Therefore setting
an expectation for the outcomes for a cloud computing initiative should be based on
the business case in support of the initiative, not what other companies have achieved.
2.Consider the cloud architecture to monitor the usage of cloud services and track
costs: One of the biggest misguided perceptions of cloud computing is that cloud
initiatives will greatly reduce the cost of doing business. That may be true for some
initiatives but not all of them; after all, cost is not the only reason to leverage the
cloud. Even if a company has a good business case for reducing costs in the cloud, it
takes more than cloud computing to achieve the cost reduction. Companies need to
design with cost in mind. The cloud can be cost effective if the architecture effectively
optimizes its usage of cloud services. In order to optimize costs, the architecture must
monitor the usage of cloud services and track costs. Cloud services are a metered
service where the cost is calculated on a pay as you go model much like utilities such as
electricity and water are in our homes. In legacy on premises datacentres, purchased
Post Antibiotic Future
Since the introduction of penicillin to the public in 1942, antibiotics have gained
widespread use throughout the world. The drug has allowed society to make
advancements in medicine, increase an individual s personal well being, extend life
expectancies, and stop and prevent infections. Antibiotics are one of the largest
backbones to maintaining personal health in society today, yet there may be a day when
we are no longer able to depend on antibiotics to fight infections. In the essay Imagining
the post antibioticfuture , Maryn McKenna establishes the importance of antibiotics to
juxtapose how devastating life would be without them. McKenna first introduces the
origin of penicillinand antibiotics. The first known antibiotic,... Show more content on

By weight, eighty percent of antibiotics are used in agriculture to fatten animals and
protect them from the conditions in which they are raised (McKenna). Animals are given
micro doses of antibiotics, that is, a small amount of antibiotics to prevent diseases from
occurring. This micro dosage amount allows for mutation that Fleming described. The
routine use of antibiotics in agriculture has led to [sixty five] percent of chicken breasts
and [forty four] percent of ground beef to house bacteria resistant to tetracycline .
Additionally, [eleven] percent of pork chops carried bacteria resistant to five classes of
drugs (McKenna). These bacteria then spread from animals to the humans who eat
them, causing humans to get infections which cannot be treated. The issue isn t as
simple as ceasing to give antibiotics to animals. Most animals raised for consumption
live in an environment ripe for infections and diseases to spread. Instead of giving the
animals more room to live, the majority of farmers opt to give the animals antibiotics.
For cattle, This prevents diseases and death to the immature weaned calves and cattle
which saves the rancher both time and money passing on the savings to the consumers.
In a free market society higher prices tend to not go well. However, if antibiotics
became useless farmers would have to [enlarge] barns, [cut] down on crowding, and
[delay] weaning , which ultimately would increase the costs of raising livestock
Marine Corps History
The history of the United States military spans way back to over two centuries. During
those years, the United States evolved from a new nation fighting Great Britain for
independence from 1775 to 1783, through the monumental American Civil War in 1861
to 1865 and, after collaborating in triumph during World War II, to the world s sole
remaining superpower from the late 20th century to present. Today the militaryhas there
forces broken down into 5 branches. The Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and the
Coast Guard. These branches make up the 5 branches of the US military. The first and

The United States Marine Corps has served in nearly every conflict with the United
States. It attained prominence when its practice of amphibious wars, and ultimately
formed a cornerstone of the Pacific Theater of World War II. By the early 20th
century, the Marine Corps would become one of the dominant theorists and
practitioners of amphibious warfare. Its ability to rapidly respond on short notice to
expeditionary crises has made and continues to make it an important tool for U.S.
foreign policy. During the U.S. Civil War, their most important task was blockade duty
and other ship board battles, but were mobilized for a handful of operations as the war
progressed. The remainder of the 19th century would be a period of declining strength
and introspection about the mission of the Marine Corps. Under Commandant Jacob
Zeilin s, many Marine customs and traditions took shape. During the Spanish American
War, Marines would lead U.S. forces ashore in the Philippines, Cuba, and Puerto Rico,
demonstrating their readiness for deployment. Between 1900 and 1916, the Marine
Corps continued its record of participation in foreign expeditions. Between the world
wars, the Marine Corps was headed by Major General John A. Lejeune, another popular
commandant. In World War II, the Marines played a central role, under Admiral Nimitz,
in the Pacific War, participating in nearly every significant battle. The Marines also
played an important role in the Vietnam War. The Marines went to Beirut during the
1982 Lebanon War on 24 August. On 23 October 1983, the Marine barracks in Beirut
was bombed, causing the highest peacetime losses to the Corps in its history. The I
