PN128 Therapeutic Nurse-Client Relationships

Assignment 2 (20%)
Due date: March 14 by 11:30 via Blackboard
"Promoting Collaborative Practice and Ethical Healthcare Delivery"
Objective: To explore and present the importance of collaborative practice and ethical nursing
within healthcare.
Instructions:

Written Assignment (Based on CLO 2) 5%:

1. In this assignment, each group will complete the assigned activities designed to
enhance their understanding of interprofessional team dynamics, trust-building, and
empathy.
As a group, provide the answers to the following. These must be provided in APA
format (not lists or bullet points!)
a. define the terms interprofessional team and interprofessional
collaboration.
b. identify principles of team dynamics and group processes (defined in
class notes).
c. identify how understanding a client's needs, strengths, capacity, and
goals promotes collaboration. Provide a brief example of how each
fosters collaboration.
d. explain the professional behaviours required of the interprofessional
healthcare team.
e. identify the contributions of regulated and unregulated HCPs to the work
of the interprofessional team.
f. discuss the impact of oppression, bullying, and whistleblowing in
interprofessional teams

2. Addressing Ethical Dilemmas in Interprofessional Collaboration (Based on CLO 2.8 and

3.5). For this component, each group will present real-life case scenarios that depict
ethical dilemmas or boundary-crossing situations in the context of interprofessional
collaboration (these will be provided to each group).
● Include the case study you have been assigned in your paper
● explore the warning signs of boundary crossings in healthcare practice and
propose appropriate responses applicable to your case study (CLO 3.5).
Presentation Structure 10%:

1. Introduction (1-5 minutes): Provide an overview of the workshop's objectives, its

importance in healthcare, and what participants can expect to learn.
2. Ethical Dilemma Role-Play (5-10 minutes): ALL students in each group act out a
scenario where an ethical dilemma occurs in interprofessional collaboration. These
scenarios are based on real cases from the CNO website. You will intentionally cross
boundaries and do everything healthcare professionals should not! Many students
present this portion of the assignment in a pre-recorded video. Feel free to be creative
in your presentation!
3. Discussion and Problem-Solving (1-5 minutes): Facilitate a discussion based on the
ethical dilemma role-play. Encourage the class to share their thoughts, propose
solutions, identify when boundaries were crossed, and discuss the potential
consequences of different actions.
4. Ethical Dilemma Role-Play – The Right Way! (5-10 minutes): The students in the group
will re-enact the same ethical dilemma previously played out, ensuring that the
healthcare professional’s role does not cross boundaries. This is also welcome in video
format.
5. Conclusion and Q&A (1-5 minutes): Summarize critical takeaways from the role-play
and discussion, emphasize the importance of ethical nursing and collaborative practice,
and invite questions from the audience.

Group Evaluation 5%
Each group member will complete the following chart evaluating themselves and each of
their group members. Each student will submit to Blackboard the same paper as everyone
else in their group. At the end of their paper, each student will provide the filled in chart. I
will add up the grades your group members give you to provide this 5% portion of your
grade.

Write the name of each of your group members in a separate column. For each person
(including yourself!), indicate the extent to which you agree with the statement on the left
using a scale of 1-4 (1= strongly disagree, 2=disagree, 3=agree, 4=strongly agree). Total the
numbers in each column.
