School is a place where individuals learn and grow as a person. It teaches learners to become the best
version of themselves and it creates an avenue for us to grow and foster in our chosen fields where we can be
ourselves. However, school is not all sunshine and rainbows for it is also in school where bullies hail.
Bullying is a form of abuse or mistreatment by someone who deems to be more powerful to someone
vulnerable. It is the act of making someone feel threatened, hurt and abused by somebody who does something that
is unpleasant or displeasing to the other party. Bullying in school is very rampant and has a lot of forms from
cyber(mistreating someone online),verbal (like name-calling) and to physical bullying and its making marks on many
of the student’s life from primary education to higher education. Bullying recognizes no age and it is present in
almost all places.
A lot of reports and headlines shows how bullying has been affecting a lot of students all around the globe.
Almost everyday, we hear different cases of school bullying on the news which in some severe cases has triggered
others to end their lives to stop the suffering. Many students suffered so much not only physically but more so
emotionally and mentally. Bad words echoed through their heads resulting to low self-esteem and eventually to low
performance in school. It demotivates learners and has found to be one of the most common reasons for
depressions especially by young and vulnerable learners who easily get swayed by other’s opinion.
Bullying in schools must be addressed and handled properly to eradicate and eliminate it. Bullying must be
stopped and schools must act. Schools must stop turning a blind eye on reported incidents and must start teaching
lessons to the bullies. They must learn to be firm with their rules and stablish an organization within schools that
would cater to this. Bullies must be taught a lesson through punishment and reprimands to make them refrain from
doing the same mistake again. Schools must start in creating proper avenues for these bullied victims to have a safe
place to report bullying incidents without fear and judgement. Schools must strengthen Anti-bullying campaigns and
must be more vigilant in what is happening around. If bullies did it once, it is more like they will do it again. Bullying
must be condemned and bullies must be punished.
To stop bullying is a call for everybody. It needs everyone to get involved and to stop being unbothered by
what is happening around. We must start to care and look around us and act on things that needs action. We must
protect each other and become better. We must remember that nobody succeeds by hurting anybody but those
who were compassionate were blessed and in bliss.
