Code of conduct: basic human decency

Research: general information about your country + how your country is related to u topics, find out
who your enemies and allies are and why. Search about politics and government or geography, culture
and society, or economy. Search about the topic’s background and which countries are mainly involved.
Your research is for you, no one else reads it.

Opening speech: short speech introducing your topic. State your country, few information about the
topic (mention the problem), and briefly state where your country stands in that specific topic.

Resolutions: the document that you and your block write to explain and solve the problem. They are
read on the second day. It is written in groups and one person reads them. Resolutions should include:

1. Concise and evocative title

2. A list of signatories
3. The name of the committee or the general assembly
4. A set of preambulatory clauses punctuated by semicolons
5. An address to the member states or voting parties
6. A set of operative clauses

Heading:

Forum: general assembly

Main submitter: (main country)
co submitters: (countries in the group)
topic of: (insert your topic)

Pre-ambs:

General information everyone should know about the topic, they should:

 Conclude with a semicolon and employs the substantive form of a verb

 Utilize tiny letters as bullet points for subclauses
 Placed after the title of the resolution and the name of committee but comes before the
address to the voting parties

Operative clauses

Solution that you and your group agreed upon (solve the topic), the committee tells you how many
you should write, an operative clause always:

 Follows the address to the member states or voting parties

 Starts with an operative verb in the operative form (e.g., “requests”) that are in bold and
underlined
 Starts with numbers as bullet points, and uses roman numbers for subclauses, which can be
followed with more numbers for further explanation
 A clause ends in a semicolon, while sub-clauses and sub-sub-clauses end with commas. The
last sub-sub-clause in the resolution ends with a full stop.
Amendments

Draft resolutions that are being debated can be modified by any delegate in the forum. These
modifications are called amendments. An amendment can be to add, remove, or change certain
parts in the operative clauses of the resolution (pre-ambs cannot be modified). The goal of the
amendment should be to strengthen the resolution in order for it to pass through voting
procedure. You need to raise your plac card before giving the amendment to get it approved be
the chairing panel. There are four types of amendments, these are:

Friendly

Changes to the resolution that all the submitters of the resolution agree on. The amendment is
written by the delegate on paper and then the admin staff passes the paper around to all
submitters to sign the amendment if they agree with it. After all the submitters sign the
amendment, it is then given to the chairing panel who automatically approve it.

Unfriendly

changes that some or all the submitters of the resolution do not agree on. The amendment
debated and voted upon by the entire committee.
