Communication media refers to how people transfer information among themselves. It aids in

understanding each other and achieve desired outcomes (Lynch and Wysocki 149). In businesses,

communication is a pivot in determining the success of a company, enhances better results and more

cohesive teams.

Types of Communication Mediums:

Oral (spoken medium)

Oral communication is where information is exchanged through spoken words which

includes both formal and informal interactions. In this medium of communication, it is less formal

than written communication allowing for adaptability to the context (Lynch and Wysocki 149). The

advantages of this medium includes immediate feedback, fostering relationship building and allows

to convey tone and emotions. However, it has the downside which includes potential for

misunderstanding, lack of permanent record and a challenge in reaching geographically dispersed

audiences. Oral communication has industries that heavily rely on it includes customer service,

sales, healthcare, and education. Emerging trends includes use of virtual assistants, voice

recognition, and advanced video conferencing tools.

Written Medium

Written communication is where information, ideas, or messages is conveyed through the

written word(Lynch and Wysocki 149). Written communication takes various forms including

and short stories. Written communication advantages lies in its ability to provide a permanent

record, reach a wide audience globally, and for documentation. However, disadvantages includes

limitation of literacy levels and the need for materials like paper or internet access. It is used in

industries like corporate settings for formal communication like emails and reports, academia for

research papers and presentations. Innovations include the rise of instant messaging and

collaborative online platforms.

Visual Medium

Visual communication is the process of conveying information, ideas, or emotions through

visual elements such as graphics, images, and videos (Lynch and Wysocki 149). The typical use

cases include advertising graphics, user-friendly interfaces for websites, and capturing moments

through photography. Advantages of the medium include ability to cater to illiterate audiences,

encourage effective communication skills, and provide simple explanations. However,

disadvantages include higher costs, potential difficulty in interpretation, an incomplete approach to

communication, and time wastage. Industries relying include advertising, graphic design, web

design, photography, art direction, and fashion. Emerging trends and innovations involve ugmented

reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR).

Digital transformation and technology has led to the rise of social media platforms, email,

and virtual communication tools has altered the dynamics of public relations, marketing, and

internal communication making real-time communication more prevalent, and businesses need to
