Getting Older Essay

The essay discusses the evolution of the legal doctrine of "beyond reasonable doubt" standard used in criminal trials. It explains that the standard developed over the past 200+ years as judges sought to provide guidance to juries on evaluating evidence. They were influenced by religious and philosophical traditions that emphasized rational, evidence-based decision making. By the 17th century, judges began instructing juries to decide cases based on whether guilt was proven "beyond reasonable doubt". This standard was influenced by both religious casuistical tradition and the emerging scientific emphasis on establishing truth through empirical evidence.

Getting Older Essay

Crafting an essay on the theme of "Getting Older" is a nuanced task that demands a delicate balance
between personal reflection, societal perspectives, and a keen understanding of the multifaceted
aspects of aging. The topic inherently involves exploring both the challenges and joys associated with
the passage of time, making it a complex endeavor.

To begin with, one must navigate through the intricate layers of personal experiences and
introspection. Discussing the emotional and physical changes that come with aging requires a certain
level of vulnerability and self-awareness. It necessitates the ability to reflect on one's own journey
and translate those reflections into a coherent narrative that resonates with the reader.

Moreover, addressing the societal dimensions of aging adds an additional layer of complexity.
Analyzing cultural attitudes, stereotypes, and expectations surrounding getting older requires a
nuanced understanding of various perspectives. The writer must delve into the psychological impact
of societal perceptions, exploring how they shape individual experiences and contribute to the
broader discourse on aging.

Additionally, weaving together the scientific and psychological aspects of aging is vital for a
comprehensive exploration of the topic. Understanding the biological processes, cognitive changes,
and health implications associated with getting older demands a grasp of interdisciplinary
knowledge.

Furthermore, maintaining a balance between optimism and realism is crucial. While it's essential to
acknowledge the inevitable challenges of aging, the essay should also embrace the wisdom and
personal growth that often accompany the later stages of life. Striking this balance ensures a
nuanced and well-rounded perspective that engages the reader on both intellectual and emotional
levels.

In conclusion, writing an essay on "Getting Older" is no simple feat. It involves a careful interplay of
personal reflection, societal analysis, and scientific understanding. The complexity lies not only in
exploring the multifaceted nature of aging but also in presenting these insights in a compelling and
relatable manner. As with any intricate topic, it requires time, dedication, and a thoughtful approach
to deliver an essay that resonates with readers.

Learning Patience and Responsibility at Hell s Pizza Essay
Learning Patience and Responsibility at Hell s Pizza

Even the job from hell can teach you patience and responsibility. When you hear the
name Peter Piper Pizza, you may think a fun family restaurant. When I hear Peter Piper
Pizza I get chills down my spine. Having worked there for about two years, I started to
get annoyed over every little thing that was a part of my job. I had the worst position that
they had, Game Technician. When I first applied for the job, the game guy was going to
be the easiest job that I could find. Little did I know that this position taught me the more
about being patient and responsible than any other experience I have had.

It was mid sophomore year of high school when I started the job hunt. I applied ... Show

Game technicians get the bottom of the barrel when it comes to work. At Peter Piper Pizza
, they are in charge of helping customers with games, working the prize counter, and
fixing all of the games all at the same time. On weekends is when I hated this job the
most. Being in charge of over one hundred little screaming 4 9 year olds, each one with
another problem taught me several things. It taught me that little kids are bastards, and
they lie a lot. Another thing that the kids showed me is that they do not know how to
count. Many times would I have a child come up with four tickets and point to the back
wall and demand one of the huge prizes. Once you break the news to them that they only
have four tickets they throw a fit and make my job even harder. The one thing that they
did teach me though was to be patient. I was a pretty impatient person before this job, but
working this schedule will make anyone more patient.

The typical work day for me started around 7am. Opening was a very lame job. I was
in charge of putting all of the tables down on the ground for the customers. Once that
was completed, I had to check every game and re stock them with fresh stacks of
tickets. After that, I had to take Windex and clean all of the games. After a couple of
hours of cleaning and preparing, it was time to open at 10. The weekends were the
busiest and that is when the restaurant becomes too hectic

I find resonance in the words of Nikola Tesla, If you want to find the secrets of the
universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration . Change is what defined
my childhood. My father is with the Indian Army and we moved to a new city every
two years. In India, where language, food and culture change every hundred miles, I
completed my education in several schools and under diverse settings. My curiosity to
work in situations where nobody knows anything , and build up everything from
scratch led me to pursue Engineering. Since automation, digitization and convergence
of technology are today central to all streams of engineering, I decided to opt for
Electronics and Communications Engineering for under graduation. This stream
enabled me to apply my knowledge to build different applications in any field, and the
courses served in refining my understanding about the subject making me keenly
appreciative of the subtleties in this field. In college, inspired by technology and
motivated by social implications, I teamed up with couple of classmates on a project for
quadriplegic paralysis patients who are unable to use their limbs and are completely
dependent for their mobility. The device was able to detect precise head movement and
transmit the signal to the wheelchair circuitry setting it in motion. We extended this
system by connecting it to wirelessly interact with a ZigBee receiver that is linked to
electrical appliances via 8051 micro controller allowing the
Reasonable Doubt History
The Evolution of the Doctrine of Beyond Reasonable Doubt

the beyond reasonable doubt standard has characterized the Anglo American criminal
justice system for more than two hundred years. That system has always depended
heavily upon the jury so that any study of reasonable doubt necessarily must be linked to
an examination of the jury. From the surviving records, it does not appear that judges
initially concerned themselves much with the question of the jury s evidentiary duties.
Early jurors reached decisions on the basis of a mixture of their own personal
knowledge of events and the testimony of others. By the sixteenth century most of the
personal knowledge had dropped away. Once jurors were clearly perceived to be

Their efforts were both shaped and complemented by the enormous upsurge in
epistemological thinking that was a part of what is commonly called the scientific
revolution. Thus the judges confronted twin sources of epistemological guidance. One
was the English religious tradition, particularly the casuistical tradition, which sought a
rational method of decision making in everyday life. The other was the scientific
movement of Bacon, Boyle, and especially Locke and the empirical philosophers, who
sought to establish scientific truth from the evidence they gathered. This paper is about
how judges created the beyond reasonable doubt standard for the jury, and so it is also
about the religious and philosophical thinking from which that standard was derived.
There are two kinds of rules of evidence in common law jurisdictions. The first, which
deals with what kinds of evidence may get to the jury when and in what form, can be
understood without much reference to nonjury developments. The second deals with the
evaluation by the jury of the evidence, and how it is to decide whether there is
sufficient probative evidence to justify a verdict. Such rules are drawn from the culture s
general understanding of how we know things to be true. This paper deals with this
second variety and
Dave Eggers Serve Or Fail
Public service can be an excellent way to help out your community and maybe even
teach a few skills, but can it provide valuable life lessons and help prepare college
students for their life to come? In the essay Serve or Fail by Dave Eggers, the matter of
public service being required for college students is discussed. Eggers makes it clear that
he supports the claim that collegestudents should be required to perform these services.
However, with the factors of everyday college life, it is somewhat absurd to require
college students to perform community services along with the rest of their schooling.
Eggers starts off his essay saying that a good deal of the four years of college is spent
playing football and that college is too long with many hours in the days and weeks that
need killing . He then goes on to explain that community service can have a profound
effect on college students and help them to find potential careers. So then what about the
students that don t waste their time in college playing football and already have a good
idea of what they want their potential career to be? The hours that Eggers... Show more
