IX CBSE CASE BASE

Answer the following:

1. Given, mass of car (A) = 1000 kg 3
Mass of car B = 1000 kg
Force applied by car A = 100 N

Velocity of car A after travelling 200 m is given by

From third equation of motion, v² = u² + 2as [for car A here, u = 10 msˉ¹, s = 200 m]
v² = (10)² + 2 × 1/10 × 200
v² = 100 + 40 = 140
v = √140 = 11.8 msˉ¹
According to the question, after moving of 200 m, the speed of car A, u₁ = 11.8 msˉ¹
Just after the collision, the final speed of car A, v₁ = 0
before collision, the initial speed of car B, u₂ = 0
From conservation of linear momentum,
m₁u₁ + m₂u₂ = m₁v₁ + m₂v₂
[Let just after the collision, the speed of the car B is v₂]
m₁ × 11.8 + m₂ × 0 = m₁ × 0 + m₂ × v₂
11.8 m₁ = m₂v₂
11.8m₁ = m₁v₂ [As ∵m₁ = m₂]
11.8m₁ = m₁v₂
v₂ = 11.8 msˉ¹
2. We know that, in laws of reflection, the angle of incidence (x) is always equal to the angle of reflection 3
(x).
Since, AOB is a straight line.
∴ ∠AOB = 180°
∴ 50° + x + x + 50° = 180° (∵ sum of all angles lies on the same side of aline is 180°)
2x + 100° = 180°
2x = 180° - 100°
2x = 80°
x = 80°/2
x = 40°
Hence, the value of x is 40°.
3. (a) Echo 3
(b) Sound gets reflected back

Page 1 of 3
(c) Incident sound travels distance = 800 m
Sound after reflection travels = 800 m
Total distance travelled by sound = 800 + 800 = 1600 m
(d) Distance of cliff, d = 800 m
Time taken to listen to the echo = 5 s

(ii) Y is infrasonic sound
(iii) Z is audible sound
(b) Ultrasound machine in hospitals
(c) Simple pendulum
(d) Loudspeaker
(e) 20 Hz to 20000 Hz
6. (a) The person would hear a lot of noise of heavy traffic in a city. 3
(b) The person would hear very little noise of traffic in a village.
(c) The person would hear echoes of persons talking in a bare room.
(d) The person will find furnished room less echoic.
7. No. of steps = 28 3
Height of each step = 28 cm
Total height = 20 x 28 = 560 cm = 5.6 m
Mass of student = 55 kg
g = 9.8 m/s²
time = 5.4 s
Work done = m x g x h = 55 x 9.8 x 5.6 = 3018.4 J
