04 CDS21A Load Calculation Example 4

Beam 2-5 in the figure supports a bedroom floor and balcony above. It is made of 250x250mm precast concrete. The bedroom floor has a 150mm thick concrete slab and 30mm cement plaster. It is also subjected to an additional 1.5 kN/m2 dead load. The total load on Beam 2-5 is calculated considering the self-weight of the beam and slab, plaster load, additional bedroom load, and load transferred from the balcony above. The total calculated load is 33.16 kN/m.

Question - 4

Figure 1 shows the arrangements of floor beams (250 mm x 250 mm precast concrete) of
bedroom and balcony of a private dwelling; which supports a 150 mm thick reinforced concrete
slab. The bedroom floor is finished with 30 mm cement plaster of density 2.3 kg/m2 per mm
thickness. The bedroom is subjected to an additional dead load of 1.5 kN/m2. The entire assembly
of slab and beams is supported by six columns (numbered as column-1 to column-6), as shown in
Figure 1. Calculate the total load on Beam 2-5. Assume concrete density as 2400kg/m3
