Recall, for a moment, the most pleasant memory you have about your life... perhaps it's a memory of feeling the warm sand between your toes as you stand on a beautiful Hawaiian beach at sunset; or maybe seeing your child's angelic face for the fist time; or maybe it's the memory of the first time you heard that special song that brings back even more good memories... hold onto that thought, remember how wonderful it felt to be in that moment... now take a look around you and notice everything about THIS moment, because you are about to create some more happy memories memories of a dramatic turning point in your life, when you began your journey toward complete, perfect, vibrant health like you may never have known before. Do you want to be well? Of course you do! Who doesn't (except for hypochondriacs, of course)? And this marvelous e-book will get you started on your road to great health by helping you understand the basic concepts of Natural Healing, teaching you how to make basic herbal preparations at home in your spare time, and educating you about some healthy habits that will give you a tremendous boost on your healing journey. The information in this book is intended to help you get started on your healing journey. As the Chinese say, "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." When working with any sick person (including yourself), it is important to realize that some minor conditions may respond to very mild healing programs (e.g. just taking a few herbs for a few days), but more severe conditions (or very weak people) will need to do a lot more things a lot more often in order to get well (e.g., bowel cleansing, liver cleansing, kidney cleansing, diet changes, exercises, castor oil packs, huge doses of herbs [completely safe], attitude adjustments, hydrotherapy [water therapy], massage, reflexology, superfoods, etc.). Some people (usually those with the most severe conditions) have to use all of these at once in order to get well. Some people are surprised and disappointed when their tumor doesn't melt away after drinking a few cups of tea, but it just doesn't work that way. The tumor can melt away, but only when you give it a reason to. When fighting an aggressive foe, you must be just as aggressive as it is! If you arent, it will beat you! I'll talk more about this later, but for now, keep in mind that this book is an introduction to Natural Healing and will help you understand the principles upon which it operates, get you started in using some basic herbal preparations, and teach you about some fundamentals that are vitally important for getting well, but for severe and/or stubborn conditions, I suggest doing a complete, comprehensive natural healing program. The Problem With Conventional Medicine


Conventional medicine is now one of the leading causes of death in America! The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) reports: * 20% - 30% of all patients receive contra-indicated (inappropriate) treatments! * 98,000 Americans die every year as a result of medical errors! * 106,000 people die each year from non-error adverse effects (side-effects) of medications! * Iatrogenic (doctor caused) deaths total at least 225,000 every year in America making doctors the third leading cause of death in America after heart disease and cancer! If anything I say is theoretical or hypothetical or unproven, I'll say so, because its my job to empower you to heal yourself; thats how I make my living too, the healthier you get, the more referrals I get, but doctors only make money when youre sick. Not all doctors are bad people, of course, but the system they use rewards sickness, not health.

Chapter 2
There Are NO Incurable Diseases!
No Incurable Diseases
I am writing this essay to explain to my readers / students / clients exactly what I mean when I say that "There are NO incurable diseases." Basically, I mean exactly that. There are no incurable diseases. Everyone can be well, but only if they are willing to do all the necessary natural healing procedures to build a new healthy body; which brings me to my next point, there may not be any incurable diseases, but there are some incurable people. Incurable people come in three types: 1) Those who won't do the necessary natural healing programs: like hypochondriacs, who enjoy ill health and use it as a means of getting much needed attention, or those who simply don't believe they can be well, or who have bought in to all the medical brainwashing that says everything in nature is dirty, evil, and dangerous, or who have gotten used to being sick and don't want to get well because they fear change, or perhaps they don't feel that they deserve to be well and reinforce their destructive habits as a means of giving themselves what they see as "just punishment." But for whatever reason, they just refuse to do what is necessary to be truly well. 2) Those who only do partial programs: These people may make a small change or two in their lifestyle, pop a few herb capsules, or try an exercise program for a few days or weeks, and then give up and go back to their old habits - they don't stick with it. For one reason or another they are just not motivated to make a serious effort to improve their health, perhaps they think they don't need to or it may just be low on their list of priorities, or maybe they just don't believe that they can be well, but, for whatever reason, they don't do everything they need to in order to get well. 3) Those whose time has come: Everyone will die some day. It is not the goal of natural healing to "cheat death," but rather to increase both the quality and length of life, and allow death, when it comes, to be completely free of pain, and full of dignity, surrounded by loved ones and leaving this earth with a smile. When a person's time has come, they will go. An appropriate natural healing program can help them to have a natural painless death at home, without disease, surrounded by loved ones, in full control of all their bodily functions and with their dignity intact. With these people, the right program will usually get rid of every sign of their disease, but since it is their time, we can help them, but we just can't keep them here any longer.

What is a Natural Healing "Program?"


You will notice that when I speak of healing or curing something, I do not say, "Everything can be cured with herbs," or "Everything can be cured with reflexology," or "Everything can be cured with diet," or "Everything can be cured with exercise / a positive attitude / visualization / aromatherapy / massage / cleansing or whatever." This is because each and every one of these things is a very powerful tool to be used in healing, but they must be used together. What I say is that, "Everything can be Cured / Healed with an appropriate Natural Healing Program." A "Natural Healing Program" is some or all of the above things plus appropriate lifestyle changes all being used together and at the same time. Healing/curing something is just like any job in carpentry or mechanics or gardening or construction. No carpenter would ever say that he could do every job using only a hammer and no other tools; no mechanic would throw out every tool in his possession except his monkey wrench, claiming it was the only thing he needed; no gardener would confine himself to using nothing but a hoe; and no construction worker would claim he needed only a blow torch. Every one of these tools is vitally important to the profession associated with it and the professional probably wouldn't be able to do his job without it, but at the same time, there are many other tools he needs for the different aspects of each job and he wouldn't be able to do his job if he refused to use them all together, when they are called for. Healing is just like this. There are different aspects of disease that need to be addressed and different healing tools to do it with. Many people are skeptical when I speak of curing all diseases because they think I am speaking of using only one of these tools, medicinal herbs for example. They say, "and just what is this miraculous cure?" as if it were one single thing. This is what the medical industry has conditioned us to think because this is the way they work... always looking for a pill or a shot or a single treatment or procedure to fix the whole problem, and it just doesn't work that way! That's why they're still looking! That's why people's problems just keep getting worse and worse and worse. It's like trying to do every home repair job using nothing but a hammer - sooner or later, youre going to need some nails, or a staple gun, or a drill, or a paint brush, and if you refuse to use these other tools, the job just doesnt get done. Natural Healing is not about using one single treatment (tool) to instantly "cure" a condition. It is about correcting the underlying cause of a condition, whatever it is, so that the body can repair itself automatically, having been provided with what it needs. The net result is that the disease or disorder is no longer present at all, which is how most people would define the word "cure" (to permanently get rid of a disease condition and keep it from coming back), but this result is arrived at by a different means than people have come to expect - by building and strengthening the body so that it is able to cure itself, rather than intervening and attacking the disease.

Some people think that natural methods cannot "cure" anything, but that they temporarily extend life or "improve" a persons general condition without actually removing the disease condition... and they're right... that is, if you use the kind of "natural healing" that these people have come to expect, in other words, taking a few herb capsules, having one chiropractic adjustment, "cutting back" a little on cholesterol in the diet, etc. These are the people who spend 30, 40, 50+ years building up a disease condition in their bodies and then expect one "24 hour cleanse" and a few cups of tea to heal them completely. A complete healing CAN come, but not by doing such anemic, wimpy, short term, half-hearted programs. These are the kind of programs that most people in this country do, and this is the reason that many people believe natural healing doesn't work or that it only works for very minor conditions - they only use partial programs, so they only get partial results. When a heart disease patient takes a few garlic pills, switches to chicken or fish instead of beef and pork, takes several prescription drugs and goes for regular medical exams, he can expect to see a minor (if any) improvement in his symptoms while his condition gets steadily worse and worse, but if he eliminates ALL animal products from his diet, exercises daily, takes fresh garlic, cayenne pepper, and hawthorn berries, takes herbal superfoods (extra concentrated nutrient sources), cleanses his elimination organs, takes time every day to relax and de-stress, etc., he can expect very dramatic results within a few days and a complete healing, usually within a few months to a year. This has happened many thousands of times, and not only with heart disease, but also with every other disease know to man! Wimpy programs and "single tools for big jobs" (severe conditions) don't accomplish anything other than giving natural healing an undeserved bad reputation. You must be more aggressive than the thing you're fighting or it will win! No one would try to slay a giant dragon with a butter knife, and yet many people still try to heal major diseases with pathetically weak programs. Even the herbs they take are often in weak, poor quality preparations. No wonder people think herbs don't work! They do work, but only when they are used properly, not in tiny doses, watered down formulas, and partial programs. So lets give natural healing methods the chance they deserve, and see their truly miraculous effects. No one is dying from taking too many healing herbs. Everyone is dying from not taking them or taking tiny weak doses. The results you get with natural healing will be a direct result of the amount of time, energy, and dedication that you put into healing yourself. If you put only insignificant amounts of yourself into the program, you will get only insignificant results; if, on the other hand, you decide to take your health seriously and put everything you have into getting well, you will have absolute miracles happening that will make you swear you're dreaming! Don't be afraid of using powerful Natural Healing Programs! No one has ever been hurt by using too much good wholesome live food, drinking too much peppermint tea, having too many friends, saying too many positive affirmations, laughing too much, getting too many massages, doing too many seasonal cleanses, or going for too many mountain hikes. The only risk you take

on this type of program is that you might end up losing your disease! A true natural healer / herbalist will never give or suggest to you a toxic or poisonous or habit-forming remedy of any kind. Nothing should ever be used that causes additional problems. This is why we do not recommend pharmaceutical drugs... they are poisons which carry with their use harmful side-effects and after-effects. If there is any doubt in your mind about this fact, go to a library or bookstore and look through a copy of the Physician's Desk Reference (PDR). Look up whatever drug you are taking and then notice whether it has three pages of listed side-effects or just one page. By the time you get through reading all the things that can happen to you from taking a certain drug, you'll be ready to swear off modern medicine forever! That's what I did, and it saved my life, literally! In fact, I could not get well until I stopped taking all my medications; they were keeping me sick! Getting well is easy! It's getting sick that takes many years (and sometimes even generations) of constant dedicated hard work! To get well, all you have to do is stop doing what made you sick in the first place and start doing things that will repair the damage and give your body what it needs to function properly again. Both of these steps (cleansing and nourishing) are absolutely necessary, don't try to heal yourself by doing only one and ignoring the other, because if you do, you will be very disappointed. In order to heal any condition or permanently fix any problem, in health or anywhere in life, the cause of the problem must be addressed and corrected. If your smoke alarm goes off in the middle of the night, do you get up and look around for a fire, or do you tear it off the wall, take the batteries out, throw it away, and go back to bed (and very possibly burn to death)? Now, when you have a headache, do you pause and think for a moment about why you have it and take steps to correct the problem, or do you pop a pain killer to help you ignore the pain, while the underlying problem gets worse and worse? Unfortunately, many people pick the second option. They do so, very often, because they don't know that there is anything else for them to do. But now you know that there is a way to fix the problem permanently, by addressing its cause as God intended. Pain is your body's way of telling you that something is wrong. Listen to it; don't ignore it!

A Whole New Body?


Don't you sometimes wish you could trade your body in for a new one? Well, guess what... YOU CAN! In fact, you're doing it all the time. The problem is that you keep trading your old body in for more exactly like it! No upgrades or repairs or anything! All the cells in your body are constantly living, multiplying, dying, and being replaced by new ones. This means that your entire body completely rebuilds itself in less than two years, 98% of it in less than 1 year. You get a new brain every year, new blood every 4 months, a new skeleton every 3 months, new DNA every 2 months, a new liver every 6 weeks, new skin every month, and new stomach lining every 3-5 days! What you do while these structures are forming determines how well they form each time. The body you have now is a direct result of what you have been doing (and not doing) for the last two years (and even longer if youre sick). The reason you are still sick is that you are continually building the same sick body over and over again. To get well, you need to stop creating the same body time after time, and start building a new, strong, healthy body free from disease! How do you do this? You do it buy getting rid of all the things that are making you sick (thorough cleansing) and by giving your body all the raw materials it needs to build awesome health (nourishing)., then using things like medicinal herbs, water therapy, massage, etc. to stimulate the final healing. Cleansing and nourishing your body are like the cake and herbs and everything else are the icing.

If Lizards Can do it, Why Can't We?


Something that always puzzled me as a child was the way that many animals can grow back parts of their bodies that have been injured or even amputated, and how they live long lives virtually free of disease, and retain their youth until the day they die; but humans just wither away and die of all kinds of diseases. Certain lizards can even disconnect their tails and grow new ones. So, if humans are supposed to be the most advanced life form on the planet, the crown of God's creation, made in His image, why can't we do things like this, when even the "lower animals" do it so effortlessly? Why can't we? WE CAN! The human body is capable of regenerating itself in ALL cases of disease and almost all cases of injury. Then why don't we see it happen? Our bodies can regenerate themselves just like those of the animals, but only if we give our bodies what they need by living healthy, natural lifestyles like those animals do, getting the necessary amounts of nutrients (we need much more than the RDA in order to heal; the RDA is the absolute minimum needed for survival and a fair amount of health) and not sabotaging the healing process with constipating "foods" and poisons. (Trying to get well

without supplying the body's needs is like trying to build a house without bricks, boards, or cement, yet most sick people do exactly that, that is why they are still sick.) Animals do this automatically in the wild, operating on simple instinct, but we humans must make a conscious choice to do it. Unfortunately, we often choose to do things that short-circuit this healing mechanism, which is naturally present in the human body. Things like using unnatural drugs and medications which interfere with the body's normal functioning, eating constipating and mucous-forming "foods," processed, highly cooked foods with little or no nutrition left in them, not exercising, having negative attitudes, ignoring the "call of nature," exposing ourselves to toxic chemicals that damage us on a cellular level, and burning our insides with radiation from medical treatments, x-rays, microwave ovens, TV's, computer screens, cellular phones, etc., not to mention nuclear weapons and power plants, and other unnatural things prevent our bodies from healing themselves. Each and every one of these things is a unique "wrench in the works." When people do these things, usually many of them at once, they effectively "switch off" their healing abilities. To switch them back on again, we must remove these obstructions and give our bodies the resources they need to repair the damage.

Why Do I Get Sick While My Friends Stay Well, Even Though Our Lifestyles Are Similar or Identical?
This is a very common question, and one that causes a lot of confusion among people who study natural healing, or even conventional medicine, for that matter. And the answer to this question is the same as the answer to the question, "Why is my sister skinny while I'm fat when we both eat and exercise exactly the same." (You might have heard this one a little more often.) The answer is very simple, some of us are born with it and others of us have to work for it. Some people are born with a metabolism that lets them eat all they want and never gain weight; while others have a much slower metabolism that causes them to put on weight very easily. Likewise, some people are born with extremely strong constitutions (a strong system overall) that will let them get away with practically anything (e.g., George Burns). On the other side of the coin, some of us are born with weaker constitutions that require us to live extremely clean healthy lifestyles to achieve the same level of health that the strong people have automatically. Both can be thin, happy, healthy, and energetic; its just that the one will have to work a lot harder than the other does to get those results. One person with a strong body can live to 100 doing whatever he wants while another person will have to be very careful about what he eats and everything else he does. Both can live to or even past 100, the one will just have to work a lot harder to get there. Other areas of health are also like this.

You could also look at it in terms of height, for those of you who like metaphors. Both Michael Jordan and Danny DeVito can reach the top bookshelf in a library; the difference between the two is that Danny has to use a stepladder while Michael does not. Both my friend and I can live a long, happy, healthy life free from disease and see our great-great-grandchildren graduate college (reaching the top shelf), the difference between the two of us is that he can do it with little or no help, having been born with such a strong body, while I will have to use a "stepladder" in the form of a healthier lifestyle, avoiding things that weaken my body, and doing extra things to strengthen it. Think of an airplane whose engines can carry it at a speed of 400 miles per hour. If there is a tailwind blowing the plane forward at 150 miles per hour, then the plane is actually traveling at 550 miles per hour, but if the wind is a headwind, blowing in the opposite direction that the plane in headed, then the plane is only traveling at 250 miles per hour, sometimes a plane is flying against such a strong headwind that it is actually standing completely still. Pilots know about this phenomenon and try to take advantage of it whenever possible. I have even seen birds flying in high winds that illustrated this principle quite nicely. On one particularly windy day, one bird was flying with the wind and, as a result, had both the wind and his own power propelling him forward. He went by so fast that I wondered for a second whether it was actually a bird at all. I've never seen any kind of bird go that fast! Another bird was flying against the wind and was hovering in mid air completely stationary. He didn't move an inch! It was easy to tell that he wasn't moving because he was within a few feet of a flagpole, which provided a good point of reference. He was standing still, even though he was flying, because his own strength was propelling him forward exactly as fast as the wind was blowing him backward. Net result: no movement either forward or backward. Getting sick or well is a lot like the airplanes and the birds, except that you can control which way the wind is blowing and how fast it is blowing for you. Also realize that some of us are born with the inherent ability to travel at 100 miles per hour and others can shatter the sound barrier at 1,000 mph. If relatively good health is, say, 700 miles per hour, the weaker one will have to have a tailwind pushing him forward at 600 mph! That's a lot of wind! Fortunately, he can provide that wind for himself by cleaning out his body, eating whole live foods, having a good positive loving attitude, taking appropriate herbs, exercising regularly, using massage, hydrotherapy, and other natural healing methods and avoiding things that would "blow him backwards" like medical drugs, dead processed foods, tobacco, alcohol, bad attitudes, laziness, and environmental poisons and pollutants. By helping himself like this, he can indeed reach a speed of 700 mph even though his body will only go 100 mph on its own. The other fellow, the one who started out with enough horse power to reach 1,000 mph can do enough unhealthy damaging things to slow him down by 300 mph and still have fairly good health with few if any "healthy" habits. But just imagine how fast he could go (and how long he could live in perfect health) if he had the same lifestyle as the 100 mph man. These are the folks who live to 120, 130 and beyond and have no hint of any kind of illness. They often don't even lose

their hair or teeth! But this is (sadly) almost unheard of in America today because of the destructive lifestyles most people lead and the toxic environment we have placed ourselves in. Many people start out going 1,000 mph and end up slowing themselves down to 200 mph or so because of all the things they do to weaken their bodies. Herein lies one of the great ironies of health and life: those who are born with weaker constitutions often outlive those who are born with a stronger makeup, because they tend to have problems that make them realize that they need to take better care of themselves, while those who are born strong tend to run themselves into the ground at a much earlier age than necessary by living insanely stressful, abusive, and destructive lives because they think they can get away with anything. They can definitely get away with more than the weaker folks can, but there is a limit (often ignored) to how much even their bodies can handle. Lastly, a parents constitution is passed on to his / her children. Not just his genetic constitution (that he is born with), but also his lifestyle constitution (the headwind or tailwind he has given himself). When children are born sick, it is obviously not from things that they themselves have done, but from having their parents' weaknesses passed on to them. This is especially evident in people who are infertile or have multiple m iscarriages. Their bodies are too weak to produce healthy children, so this function is shut down. When these people start living in such a way as to make them healthy again, their fertility returns and they can have strong healthy children. If, however, they override this protective mechanism with drugs or other medical procedures, they are forcing their bodies to do something they are not ready for. This is why such babies are often born prematurely, horribly sick, or even dead. If you want your children to be healthy, make sure that you are as healthy as you can get before you try to conceive, otherwise you may not be able to, or your children may be miscarried, or born with all sorts of problems. You pass on both your strengths and your weaknesses to your children. So get rid of [the manifestation of] those weaknesses through a health-building lifestyle and build on your strengths, so your children will not have health problems of their own. Nevertheless, even problems that one is born with can be healed by following an appropriate natural healing program. Their body still contains the blueprint for perfect health, it just wasnt given the chance to fully produce it while in the womb, so give it that chance now!

Who Says There Are No Incurable Diseases?


Sometimes it helps to know that one is in good company. You might be thinking, "Chris, you're the first and only person I've heard say that there are no incurable diseases and everything can be healed naturally. Is there anyone who agrees with you, anyone who would back you up?" And the answer is most emphatically YES! Here are a few quotes for you to consider (this is only a small sampling; there are many more out there, so just keep your eyes open and you will find them): "There are no incurable diseases, but at times there are incurable patients. The Creator has given herbs and assisting wholistic therapies for every type of body malfunction. If they are used, benefits will come, but if they are not used as directed, they can be of no aid." -- Dr. John R. Christopher, M.H., N.D. "Your body has the ability to heal itself completely of any disease. There are NO 'incurable' diseases. If you are willing to take responsibility for yourself and your life, you can heal yourself of anything. Tomorrow is what you believe and do today!" -- Dr. Richard Schulze, M.H., N.D. G. White, Medical Missionary "God has provided a remedy for every disease that might afflict us. Satan cannot afflict anyone with any disease for which God has not provided a remedy. Our Creator foresaw the wretched condition of mankind in these days, and made provision in nature for all the ills of man... The angels in Heaven weep because of the dreadful suffering that is going on because of ignorance." -Jethro Kloss, Herbalist in Back to Eden "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; Who healeth ALL thy diseases." -- Psalm 103:2-3 -- Holy Bible: King James Version Realizing, of course, that there are many ways in which God heals, including both the natural and the supernatural. The bottom line is that He has provided for the healing of EVERY disease.

Chapter 3
The Basics of Getting Well Naturally
Here, I will explain briefly the importance of Cleansing and Nourishing the body and a little about how it gets done.

Nourishing
There is nothing more important in getting well than giving your body the resources and raw materials it needs to build, rebuild, and heal itself. These raw materials are called nutrients (e.g., vitamins, minerals, amino acids, enzymes, water, oxygen, etc.). They are the building blocks of our bodies. If we get less than we need, our bodies can't function as they were designed to and disease sets in. If we get none at all, we soon die. These nutrients come from foods and food-herbs (superfoods). We cannot get nutrients from dirt or rocks or oyster shells or petro-chemicals, so forget about fortified foods and the majority of vitamin/mineral supplement pills, because that's exactly what they are made of. Hard minerals in water are the same way (this is why I recommend distilled water). Even though they can be absorbed into the bloodstream, they can't be assimilated and used by the bodys cells; but whole live foods and herbs can be. As Psalm 104:14 reminds us, "He [God] causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth." Dirt is food for plants and plants are food for animals and humans. The perfect foods for humans are fresh organic fruits and vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds, legumes, and nutritional herbs, as much raw as possible. Animal foods (i.e., all meat and animal flesh of every kind, milk and milk products, and eggs) are previously consumed, converted, used up, second-hand nutrition that is poorly suited to the human body and are the cause of many disease conditions. If anyone doubts this fact, they should simply check with the American Heart Association and ask about the #1 cause of death in America. It is important to have at least a majority of these foods raw because cooking above 130 F destroys all of the enzymes, all the beneficial bacteria, and many of the vitamins in food. It also turns some non-saturated fats into saturated fats and produces large amounts of free radicals (damaged molecules that damage other molecules and cells and are a main cause of aging). Cooked food is dead food, and when you eat dead foods, you literally take death into your body, so eat plenty of live raw foods and take plenty of life into your body. You can also use what we call "superfoods." Superfoods are exactly what their name implies: super foods. These are herbs and herbal products that are extremely concentrated sources of nutrients, but are also completely safe. You simply cannot be harmed by an overdose of

superfoods. Some wonderful superfoods you can use all the time and also in emergencies are: alfalfa herb, red raspberry leaf, blackstrap molasses, wheat germ oil, flax seeds and oil, olive oil, chlorella and spirulina blue-green algae, nutritional yeast, wheat grass, barley grass, rose hips, kelp, dulse, beets, carrots, etc.

Cleansing
Suppose you have an expensive antique pocket watch that has somehow got a few tiny grains of sand in it. The sand is caught between some of the gears, preventing the watch from working. Now, do you pour oil into the watch in a futile attempt to loosen it up, or do you take the watch to a jeweler to have it cleaned and get the sand removed? Now think about your body in terms of the above example, when something in your body isn't working the way it should, do you pour various medicines (either synthetic or natural) down your throat in a futile attempt to make it work again, or do you look to the root cause of the problem and remove it? Which are you in the habit of doing right now? Which do you think you should be doing? Cleansing is the way we remove those little grains of sand that cause problems in our bodies. How do you cleanse? First of all, you need to stop putting "sand" (dead toxic foreign materials) into your body. Most people can name at least half a dozen things they are doing that they know are unhealthy, so this is a terrific place to start. You can make a tremendous difference in your health and add many happy years of health to your life just by doing the healthy things you already know you should do. You don't even need me to tell you what they are. Pick one and start working on it right now. For those of you who may be having trouble thinking of unhealthy things to stop, see chapter 5 for a partial list. Remember that getting well is a journey, and a journey involves taking many separate steps toward your destination, so once you get rid of one unhealthy habit or add a healthy one, DON'T STOP THERE! That's like packing for a long trip, driving for a block or two, and then stopping and sitting there! You don't want to do that. Keep on going! Once you make one healthy change, start working on making another one. It may take a short time or a long time to achieve good health, but then again, if a group of people want to go to Vegas on vacation, those who live in Denver will have a much shorter trip than those who live in Figi; but those from Figi will still get there if they are patient. So don't be discouraged if your healing journey is a little longer than someone else's. Don't give up! You'll get there! You CAN do it! It is not the purpose of this particular e-book to teach all the different cleansing procedures, so I'll just get you started by giving you some good sources of information on the subject and explaining a little bit about what to cleanse and why. First is the bowel, we always cleanse the bowel first because if it is kept clean, the rest of the body is designed to clean itself out eventually, but if it is dirty and toxic, no matter how much cleansing you do for the other parts of your body, it will all be in vain. Your bowel stores and

[normally] eliminates many pounds of wastes each day; if these wastes are not eliminated from the body quickly, they will seep back into the bloodstream and poison the rest of the body. If the bowel is kept clean, however, this waste is eliminated quickly and won't cause any problems. Next, the liver and kidneys must be cleaned out. The liver is the constant filter and cleanser of the bloodstream, and with all the toxins and pollutants our bodies are bombarded with in modern civilization, the liver has quite a job to do indeed! It removes toxic substances from the blood and uses enzymes to break them down into harmless substances. It also has at least 500 other functions that we are aware of. This is why, when I am asked what can be done for a certain condition, I always say that it is good to start by cleansing the colon (bowel or large intestine), and the liver. But if the liver is clogged with toxic chemicals, excess cholesterol, saturated fats, excess hormones, and other such things in addition to normal bodily wastes, then it cannot perform its functions efficiently, it backs up, and the whole body suffers. It is also important to avoid clogging and damaging the liver with things like excess liquor, environmental pollutants, ALL pharmaceutical drugs and vaccines, anything synthetic taken internally, excess consumption of animal products (meat, dairy products, and eggs). The average American has over 50 known toxins in his cart every time he goes shopping. The average American's home contains more toxic chemicals than a chemistry lab did 100 years ago. Commercial cosmetics contain over 25,000 different toxic chemicals, which are known to cause tumors, reproductive disease, and even mutations in unborn children. All this must be filtered out and detoxified by the liver. No wonder so many people's livers are functioning below par. This is why the liver so desperately needs to be cleaned out. The kidneys are another filter for the body, removing excess minerals, water, and some other waste products, balancing electrolyte levels, regulating blood pressure, etc. The kidneys, like the liver, are vitally important to the functioning of the entire body, so it is extremely important to keep them clean through regular cleansing and to avoid plugging them up with things like tap water or other hard waters, soft drinks, dead inorganic mineral supplements, excessive consumption of coffee, liquors, etc. It is also important to cleanse the skin as it is our largest organ of elimination. The skin can eliminate up to 10 (yes, ten) pounds of waste matter every day! But the skin is really more of a backup, rather than a primary route of elimination. When there are problems with the skin, it means that one or more of the other eliminative organs (the bowel, liver, and kidneys) are not able to clean the bloodstream as they should, so the skin has to pick up the slack and eliminate more than it normally should. Keep the skin clean and free by brushing it (all over your body) every day with a soft natural-bristled brush (available at most health food stores), bathing regularly (use a water filter on the shower or bath faucet if you can, to remove chlorine and other harmful chemicals), and by avoiding such things as clothing made of synthetic fibers (e.g., polyester, r ayon, nylon, plastic, etc.), unnatural creams and cosmetics, commercial deodorants and antiperspirants, etc. as all these things clog the pores and plug up this most important channel of elimination. Also cleanse the lungs. This is done primarily through deep breathing. Most of the time we use only 30% or less of our full lung capacity, so breathe in as deeply as possible, letting your chest expand, then breathe out all the way, squeezing every last bit of air out, then breath in deeply again. Do this for at least a few minutes every day. You also need to avoid the things that clog the lungs like smoking (this applies no matter what it is that you're smoking), heavily polluted air, aerosol sprays, toxic fumes, and eating mucus-forming "foods" (primarily animal products and white flour). Certain herbs can also be taken to enhance this cleansing process, like lobelia, echinacea, mullein, marshmallow, comfrey, chickweed, garlic, onions, horseradish, cayenne pepper, licorice, and others. Also, never, EVER take a cough suppressant for any reason! Your body is coughing because it needs to eliminate toxic filth from your lungs and stopping this process with drugs is a great way to poison (and suffocate) yourself fast! Use the above mentioned herbs instead, to help clear the problem at its root. Fasting is a great way to cleanse the body, but always be sure to cleanse your organs of elimination before doing ANY kind of a fast. Fasting breaks loose toxic debris from inside your body and causes it to enter the bloodstream. Now, if your eliminative organs are working properly and are free from obstructions, these poisons can be quickly removed from your body and you will be no worse off for the experience, in fact, you will begin to feel unbelievably great. If, however, your eliminative organs are not free and clear, those poisons will just circulate around in your body for a while, making you feel like death warmed over, then settle back into another accumulation inside your body, net benefit = 0. Cleansing/Healing Crises
Some people, when they begin a healing program, experience what are called "Healing Crises," Cleansing Crises, or Cleansing Events. This is the body's way of eliminating a lot of toxic wastes that have been building up for years. These must be expelled from the body in order for healing to take place, but sometimes they produce some unpleasant symptoms on their way out, especially if the cleansing takes place very quickly and suddenly. A healing crisis can closely resemble some symptoms of a disease, but it is not a disease, it is always temporary, and as long as you properly support and assist your body, you will never be harmed by it in any way. Healing crises usually come in the form of symptoms that you have been trying to suppress with drugs for many years. The reason those symptoms were present in the first place is that your body produced them in an attempt to heal itself, but since your body was not allowed to do what it wanted to, the underlying cause went untreated and continued to get worse. Now that you are giving your body a chance to get well for the first time in a long time, it is finishing the job that it began years ago, and as long as you continue to support your body and do not interfere with it any more, this cleansing job will soon be finished and you will never need to experience the crisis again (that is, as long as you dont fill your body up with poisons again). Some healing crises people have experienced include: rashes, colds/flu, pimples, diarrhea, fevers, eczema, nausea, weakness, dizziness, hot flashes, fatigue, bronchitis, asthma, headache, faintness, muscle aches, bad breath, stuffed nose, runny nose, irregular heartbeat, irregular menstruation, etc. Remember that these are not the fault of the cleanse, but of the poisons in your body, and as they break loose from their accumulations to be eliminated, they cause various symptoms on their way out. These are usually short-lived and ALWAYS temporary as long as you continue cleansing until all the toxins are out. These poisons must be eliminated because you cannot ever get well with them still in your body. If you keep your channels of elimination clear and open while doing a cleansing program, you will minimize any healing crises and make sure that your body is thoroughly cleansed so you will never have to experience them again. Most of the time, healing crises do not occur when your problem is very minor (or they may simply be so mild that you dont notice them). The more poisons there are in your body, the more healing crises you will need to have. Never let a healing crisis dissuade you from getting well! I've seen people who just became vegetarians go back to their old carnivorous diets after having a couple colds or feeling a little tired, etc. They had started to cleanse their bodies, but then they stopped their cleanse out of ignorance of what was happening and now their health continues to get steadily worse. NOTE: Fasting is a wonderful cleansing tool; it causes poisons to break loose from accumulations in the body and go into circulation so they can be eliminated. Therefore, it is extremely important to give your eliminative organs all the help you can so the poisons can leave.

Chapter 4
Making Your Own Medicines
(How to Make Herbal Preparations) How to Make Herbal Tinctures
First, you will need a few simple supplies: 1) A blender 2) 80 proof (40% alcohol) or 100 proof (50% alcohol) vodka 3) The herb you want to make a tincture of, either fresh or dried. 4) Some airtight glass containers, like bottles or jars (preferably dark in color) with good lids or corks to seal them, to store the tinctures in. 5) At least two weeks time and, preferably, some patience. Fill the blender with as much herb material as you want. Pour in the vodka until it covers the herbs, but no higher than an inch above the top of the herbs because if there is too much vodka and too little herb material the tincture will be diluted and may not be strong enough to get the results you want. (For Lobelia tincture, use 1/2 vodka and 1/2 raw, unfiltered, organic apple cider vinegar, or, if you prefer, use just the vinegar and no vodka. Lobelia extracts better this way.) Blend thoroughly. If it is extremely thick, you may want to add just a little bit of vodka until it becomes thin enough to pour into your bottle or jar. The basic idea here is to make a strong concentrated tincture. Wimpy tinctures don't get results like good ones. Pour the tincture into your container (be sure to scrape out the blender so you don't waste anything ;-), put the lid on nice and tight, and store it in a cool, dark place. This tincture should be started on the new moon (when you can't see the moon) and ended on the full moon. Most calendars list the moon phases, but you can also just look up at the moon at night, if the sky is clear. Shake the tincture every day. When the full moon comes around, just take an old cotton Tshirt or a clean un-dyed rag made of natural fibers (e.g., cotton, wool, linen, or silk) and strain the tincture through it. Store the strained liquid in a cool, dry, dark place. It should be left in the jar for a minimum of 14 days (between the moon stages) but I usually let mine sit and extract for three months or more. The longer you let it sit, within reason, the stronger it will be. Some people may think that doing this by the moon stages is based on superstition, like astrology, but it's not. The moon is close enough to the earth that it can actually have a noticeable effect on many different things. All the herbalists of old went by this and farmers still plant and harvest their crops according to the moon cycles. Police departments even put more officers on the streets during a full moon. A lady I know used to work in a prayer center where people would call in to have various things prayed for over the phone. She said that every month on the full moon,

they would get an abnormally large amount of calls requesting prayers, especially for protection. People were going berserk on the full moon. These people were probably ready to snap and this was just the "feather that broke the camel's back." Many midwives have observed that a full moon can bring on labor in a woman who is ready to deliver. Now, it still won't turn anyone into a werewolf, but the moon really does have an effect on tides, people, crops, and, of course, tinctures. NOTE: Ok, this may be terribly obvious, but for those of you who might be tempted to drink the vodka, it might be a good idea to have someone else make the tinctures for you. The amount of alcohol you would get from a normal dose of tincture (like 2-3 dropperfuls) is about the same as the amount found in a ripe banana; they are even used with complete safety by people on 12-step programs and in Alcoholics Anonymous. Drinking a straight bottle of vodka, on the other hand, could cause severe liver damage and a variety of other ill effects. Also note that the Bible does not condemn the proper and responsible use of alcohol, but it does say, "Be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess." The key words here are moderation and common sense. Drunkenness will hurt you, but tinctures won't. If you want to evaporate the alcohol in a tincture before taking it, simply put the amount of tincture you are going to take into a cup and add some boiling water. The evaporation point of alcohol is 200 F, while water evaporates at 212 F, so the alcohol will evaporate into the air, leaving behind the healing herb chemicals (phytochemicals) and nutrients in the water. Alcohol also serves to preserve the tincture, so tinctures can last for a hundred years or more (pretty much indefinitely); you don't need to worry about them going bad. I have never heard of a tincture going bad unless the alcohol was removed. They also tend to hold their potency very well over time. The reason we use vodka for making tinctures is that the law requires vodka to be only water and grain alcohol; other liquors often contain various additives that we certainly don't want in out tinctures. The Fine Art of Making Herbal Teas


NOTE: The general recipe for an herbal tea is one teaspoon of herbs per cup of water. This can be varied according to how strong you want to make the tea. Teas come in two basic varieties: infusions and decoctions.

Infusions
Hot Infusions are made by putting the herbs into a tea bag or tea ball (available at health food stores and some gourmet shops) and pouring boiling water over them. It should then be left to steep for at least 10-15 minutes. You could also let it steep longer if you want a stronger tea. This method is used for anything that releases its healing properties (constituents) very quickly like flowers and leaves. You can also just put the herbs in a pan, cup, or whatever, loose and strain the tea through a stainless steel strainer or, in a pinch, even a coffee filter (non-bleached). You can also buy special straws with strainers on the end. That way, you dont even have to strain the tea before drinking it. NOTE: If you get one thats made of metal, be sure its stainless steel. Cold Infusions (also called sun teas) are made simply by putting the herbs in a clear container (make sure its covered as you dont want anything falling into your tea) with the appropriate amount of water and leaving it outside in the sun for a few hours. If it isn't possible to set it out in the sun, you could also just let it sit on your kitchen counter for a few hours. Some herbs like desert sage (Artemisia tridentata) do better with a cold infusion than with a hot one.

Decoctions
Decoctions are made by simmering the herbs (usually loose in the pan) for 20-30 minutes, then straining the liquid off through a cloth or a tea strainer. Be sure to just simmer the tea and not boil it, unless specifically told to do so for a particular herb, because in most cases, boiling will only destroy many of the healing properties of the herb. Boiling is used only for the most stubborn constituents like minerals, so if it is the minerals you are after (e.g., silica from horsetail grass or oat straw), then boil it, but otherwise, simmer on a lower heat. It is also beneficial, if you have the time, to let the herbs soak in the water overnight before simmering them, and even to simmer them for a longer period of time if you can. This method is used for things that need more "encouragement" to give up their healing chemicals and nutrients like roots, barks, twigs, berries, and seeds. A decoction can be made stronger (for making syrups, fomentations, etc.) by simmering it after it has been strained until some of the water has evaporated away. Let half of it evaporate to make a third power tea and let three quarters evaporate to make a seventh power tea. So if you start with a quart of tea, let it simmer down to a pint of tea for third power or a cup for seventh power. An infusion can be made stronger by using double the amount of herbs for a third power tea and four times the amount of herbs for a seventh power tea.

Herbal Syrups
To make an herbal syrup, make a seventh power tea (either infusion or decoction) and put one quarter part of vegetable glycerine in it to preserve it (shake it or stir it to help it dissolve in the liquid). So if you have one cup of the seventh power tea, use 1/4 cup glycerine, or one cup glycerine to four cups tea, etc. You can also use raw, unfiltered honey instead of glycerine. Syrups should be kept in the refrigerator and usually last at least a few months. To make a tea with things that require both an infusion and a decoction (for example, a peppermint leaf and burdock root tea), make the decoction (with the burdock root), strain it, and pour it (still hot) over the herb for the infusion (the peppermint), let it steep for 5-10 minutes (or more), strain (if you didn't use a tea bag/ball), and drink. This method extracts the more stubborn properties of the burdock root while also preserving the delicate essential oils in the mint leaves. A note on preserving: Teas will only last for a few days at most when stored in the refrigerator or 1-2 days outside the fridge. Syrups will last much longer since they are preserved with honey or glycerine. To make a syrup last even longer, melt some wax (cheap paraffin is fine) in a small pan, then dip the top of the jar (with the lid screwed on tight) into the wax. Let it cool and dip once or twice more. This will create an a tight seal around the lid and help the syrup last ir longer. This can also be done with powders, ointments, and anything else stored in a glass bottle or jar. Just like grandma used to do with canning fruits and veggies! Don't open the jar until you are ready to use the contents as opening will break the seal and you will have to dip it in the wax again. A note about water: It is best to use only steam-distilled water when making teas. This is because distilled water is completely empty water. It doesn't have anything dissolved in it. Therefore, it makes a superior solvent for the tea. Tea of either type made with distilled water is about 30% stronger than tea made with other types of water. Also, distilled water does not contain any toxic pollutants like chlorine or fluoride and it has no hard minerals which tend to settle in the body causing stones, spurs, arthritis, arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), cataracts, etc. in fact, it actually removes these hard minerals from the body without bothering the live organic minerals that the body needs. Also, if you can't find distilled water, reverse osmosis filtered water is the next best thing. A note on microwaves: I never suggest the use of microwave ovens because the radiation they use is harmful not only to the human body, but also to the things being heated in them. It destroys much of the nutrition, creates large numbers of free radicals, and can turn foods carcinogenic (cancer-forming). They can also cause explosions of liquids when conditions are just right, and they can also leak radiation... even when they arent switched on. It is much better to make tea by heating the water on a stove or even over an open fire (if you enjoy camping). A note about aluminum: Never, EVER use aluminum in cooking, making teas, or any other application where it would come into contact with something that is going inside your body. I

would also stay away from aluminum cans. If you must have soda pop, it is best to get it in bottles. Aluminum is a soft metal that can be easily dissolved by many different things, from spring water to tomatoes to angelfood cake batter. Just look at a well used aluminum pan and you'll see what I mean; its full of little pits, potholes, and rough spots where the aluminum was dissolved away and mixed in with the food. It enters the body causing all sorts of problems, from digestive problems to Alzheimer's disease. The best materials for all kitchen applications are glass, stainless steel, and uncracked ceramic (not painted). It is also a good idea to wash your hands thoroughly after handling something made of aluminum as it rubs off easily.

Herbal Vinegars
Vinegars (vinegar extracts) are basically the same as tinctures except that you use raw apple cider vinegar in place of the vodka. You make them the same way so just follow the instructions given above for tinctures; that is, if you want them for medicinal use. If you want to make some herbal vinegars to flavor food or, as some people do, for decorations the procedure is a little different. For flavoring, you obviously would put different herbs into the vinegar and you would want it to be milder. A lot of people combine the two by making a decorative vinegar and, after a few weeks or months, strain off the liquid and use it in cooking. To make a decorative vinegar, just get a nice clean glass jar or bottle that would look nice on your kitchen counter (or wherever), put the herbs into the bottle (usually whole, without chopping), fill it to the top with vinegar, then put the top on the bottle. A lot of people seal the bottle by dipping the top in melted paraffin wax. This keeps the bottle air-tight to preserve the flavors better and keep it from leaking. Don't worry about vinegar going bad, though. Vinegar will never go bad. Why? Because it's already bad! Vinegar is simply fermented juice (apple juice, in this case) so it never goes bad, it just gets stronger with age. Some herbs that are popular to use in decorative and flavoring vinegars are: Rosemary sprigs, whole peeled garlic cloves, various hot peppers, whole basil and oregano leaves, ginger, scallions, mint, etc.

Glycerites
Glycerites (glycerine extracts) are basically tinctures made with glycerine instead of alcohol. Always use vegetable glycerine, not animal or mineral glycerine. Glycerites are milder than tinctures and less suitable in emergencies, but they are great for children and anyone who wants to take large amounts of an extract or take it on a regular basis without consuming all that alcohol. Glycerine is also very sweet, so it's more pleasant for many people to take than alcohol extracts. To make a glycerite, pour a jar almost full of vegetable glycerine, add your herbs (I like powders for making glycerites and oils because they expose more surface area on the herbs and allow me to fit more herbs into the jar, making for a stronger extract), put the lid on the jar, and keep it in a cool dark place, shaking daily until you strain it on the full moon.

Herbal Oils
Oil extracts are just like tinctures (above) except that you are using oil (preferably extra virgin olive oil) instead of vodka, and with oils, you should always use dried herbs instead of fresh because if moisture gets into the oil, it can turn rancid. Also, it works better to powder the herbs before putting them in the oil rather than using a blender (see below). Other than that, follow the directions for making a tincture. A note on proportions: some people recommend using a couple ounces of herbs to a pint of alcohol / vinegar / glycerine. This makes a very weak extract. I guarantee that if it's your loved one that's sick or dying, you'll be stomping on that jar trying to cram more herbs into it to make the strongest extract possible. I always use equal amounts of mark (herbs) and menstruum (liquid). Some people say that this wastes herbs; maybe it does, but most of the herbs I use are so common that they are considered weeds and, besides, I'd rather waste some herbs by using more than I need than to have the extract be weaker than it should be and not get the results that I want.

Making Herbal Powders


Making herbal powders is very simple, quick, and incredibly inexpensive. The only supplies you really need are a place to set your herbs while they are drying and a little $10.00 coffee grinder from Target, Wal-mart, or some place similar. You purists may even want to use a mortar & pestle set (available at health food stores and some gourmet shops) to grind your herbs. This can be fun, but it takes a lot longer. A food dehydrator is very helpful too, but not essential. First you need to dry your herbs, so chop them finely or slice them thin (leaves obviously don't need this preparation), then either put them in the dehydrator (use a low temperature setting because you don't want to destroy the volatile properties in the herbs) and let it run until they are completely dry, or lay them out on a cloth on a table, or string them up with a cotton string and hang them in a convenient place. You can tell when they are completely dry by holding them in your hand and noticing how they feel. If they feel cool they aren't dry yet, so wait until they get to be about room temperature and dont feel cool to the touch. They will also be very crispy-like and should easily snap in two when you bend them (depending on what it is that you're drying, of course). After the herbs are thoroughly dry, put a handful into your coffee grinder and turn it on. Let it keep going until you have a fine powder. Shaking the grinder while it's going might help the process along, especially for roots and other very tough materials. After the herbs are powdered, there are lots of things you can do with them. You can put them into capsules (the results you get from encapsulated herbs won't be as fast or strong as from a tea or tincture, but they are very convenient and sometimes people will take capsules when they

won't take tinctures or teas. You could also use the powders to make teas, tinctures, oils, or other kinds of extracts. This tends to make for stronger preparations than using herbs that are just chopped. Also use powders in making poultices. Powders are also easier to store as they take up less room. Always store your powders (and other dried herbs) in airtight containers, and fill the container as near to the top as you can get so there wont be much air trapped inside. NOTE: Some herbs like aloe vera and poke root are best used fresh because drying breaks down their active constituents. Others, like Cascara Sagrada, Buckthorn, California Coffee Berry, Iris rhizome, etc. should always be used dried instead of fresh as they can be very irritating when fresh, but drying neutralizes the irritants and makes them more pleasant to use, while retaining their effectiveness. For the Cascara Sagrada, Buckthorn, and California Coffee Berry, it is recommended that they also be aged for 6 months or so before use. ANOTHER NOTE: No matter what kind of preparation you are making, always Always ALWAYS label the container you put it in. If you don't, you may have some very unpleasant surprises. You don't want to be taking a purgative (a very very strong laxative) thinking that it's a pain reliever.

Fomentations
A fomentation is basically applying a cloth soaked in herbal tea or syrup to some part of the body in order to put the healing virtues of the herbs into that specific part, as opposed to just drinking the tea which distributes the herb nutrients and healing phytochemicals over the entire body. Fomentations are great to use anytime you want to concentrate an herb's healing power in one particular part of the body and when a poultice (paste) would be too messy or impractical, like when you need to apply it to an area with hair or over a very large area. To do a fomentation, first make a tea with the herbs you want to use. You can use a tea that hasn't been concentrated (first power) if you wish, but a third power tea would be better since it is more concentrated and would have a stronger effect; and a seventh power tea would be better still. I usually make it at least third power, myself. If you want to make up a large batch so you won't have to make a new one each time you put on the fomentation, you can make up a seventh power tea and add 1/4 part vegetable glycerine to make it into an herbal syrup (see The Fine Art of Making Herbal Teas above). The syrup will last much longer than a tea without the glycerine (it should preferably be refrigerated) and you can just use a little of it for each fomentation; this should save a lot of time if you need to do several fomentations (e.g., for a chronic problem or bad injury). Now take a clean cloth made of natural fibers (e.g., cotton, wool, linen, or silk - no synthetics of any kind), preferably not dyed, and thoroughly soak it in the tea or syrup (it should be warm or hot if possible, but remember not to boil it). Next, wring it out just enough so that it won't drip all over, but so it is still very wet, then apply the cloth over the part of the body to be treated.

Now put some plastic wrap over the cloth so that it overlaps it a bit and wrap a towel, ace bandage, or whatever is available around the body part to hold the whole thing in place. Last, put a MOIST heat source like a hot water bottle on top of the fomentation. This opens up the pores and helps the tea to be absorbed more readily. It is possible to use a heating pad instead, but a hot water bottle is much better (moist heat is better to use than dry heat), and if a heating pad is used, a moist cloth should always be placed between it and the body (dont actually get the heating pad wet). Fomentations are usually left on over night, but if this is impossible, leave it on for at least an hour or two. NOTE: You can use a clean natural cloth soaked in an oil like olive oil instead of the plastic wrap, oiled silk is especially good, but most people find the plastic easier, quicker, and more convenient.

Poultices
A poultice is basically an herbal paste applied to the skin. It can be made with fresh herbs in a blender, herbal powders mixed with a liquid (usually either water or vinegar), by chewing fresh herbs and applying them to the skin, or any other way you can think of to do it. Poultices are used for a variety of applications, like healing wounds and injuries (both internal and external), drawing out poison from a bite or sting, removing some foreign objects from the body, to stop bleeding, to dissolve tumors, and many other things. Poultices can be made with just one herb or several, depending on your needs. Poultices of herbal powders are usually combined with 1/3 slippery elm bark powder, which is very mucilaginous (thick a slippery) and helps the poultice to stick to the skin, as well as nd having soothing and healing virtues of its own. To make one, mix the powders together, then add some liquid (usually water or vinegar, or in a pinch, spit (this may be all you have available in an emergency), but you can also use an oil like olive or wheat germ oil, or vegetable glycerine, fresh fruit or vegetable juice, or whatever is available) and stir until the poultice is about the consistency of a thick paste. Then apply it to the skin and, if you plan on leaving it on for a long time, put something over it to hold it in place like some cotton gauze or an ace bandage. You can also apply some plastic wrap over it as in the fomentation to keep it from drying out. NOTE: Sometimes it is easier to apply the poultice to the gauze or cloth first and then apply this whole thing to the body, like a giant bandage. After a poultice with slippery elm has dried, it sticks to your skin very, very well, providing a good protective barrier for whatever you are trying to heal. It will usually stay in place even if you decide to go swimming. It can be removed by scrubbing it off in running water, but this takes a little effort for a minute or two. If you are working on healing something major, like bed sores, boils, tumors, broken bones, etc., it is a good idea to apply more fresh poultice frequently without

removing the original; just apply the new poultice right on top of the old, and keep it moist instead of letting it dry out. The body will absorb a lot of the poultice, so don't worry too much about it running all over the place as you apply new paste. One final note, poultices don't last very long once you mix in the liquid, so mix it as you use it. If you mix up a big batch to use over the next several weeks, it will go bad after a couple days staying wet. You can mix the powders beforehand, just don't add the liquid until you are ready to use it.

A Call to Action: Let's Stop Killing Ourselves! (The First Step Toward Wellness)
Stopping The Things That Made You Sick
The Bible says that our bodies are "the temple of the Holy Spirit" (I Corinthians 6:19-20) and that we ought to care for them accordingly. And the apostle Paul admonishes in I Corinthians 10:23 that we should avoid things that are harmful, even though they are not necessarily forbidden. One of the most difficult truths to accept about life is that we are all responsible for the life we choose to live and the level of health we choose to have. It is easier to blame it on someone or something else, but people who do this dont get well. Disease is never random or without cause. Every effect has its cause. And the cause is not that a person was an unlucky victim, being in the wrong place at the wrong time (this is often the case with injuries, but never with diseases). Neither is it that they are being punished for some mistake or indiscretion. The cause of a disease is something that a person has been building via their lifestyle for many years (or that was passed on to them by their parents and they have been maintaining via their lifestyle) that weakened their body to the point that it was unable to protect itself from an assault. So disease sets in. In order to heal the body, it must be strengthened and the cause of the disease must be eliminated. In other words, you need to stop doing what it was that made you sick and start doing things that will build your body up, and you will get well. How fast you get well depends on how much help you give your body. As per the title of this chapter, I am going to list here a few of the unhealthy habits that cause the diseases people today suffer from. This is, however, not a complete list, so please don't assume that something is healthy because it isn't listed here. Please do take responsibility for your own health and learn about each of your own habits and its effects on you, good or bad. Some disease-causing habits include: the use of medical drugs and vaccinations; illegal street drugs; eating animal products (meat, eggs, and dairy products); smoking (not just tobacco, although it is the most harmful of the commonly-smoked substances); excess drinking (alcohol); high protein diets; eating dead processed "foods" and junk foods; using pesticides, insecticides, herbicides, toxic cleaning chemicals (e.g., chlorine bleach, ammonia, etc.); eating foods that weren't produced organically (they contain many toxic chemicals and are not as nutritious as organic foods); using unnatural cosmetics / makeup (there are many natural alternatives); being excessively compulsively fastidious about sterilizing everything in sight, like on the disinfectant and bleach

commercials (this weakens the immune system, not to mention the toxic effects of the chemicals being used to sterilize); using any refined sugar; using refined white flour; not exercising; wearing anything made of synthetic fibers (e.g., nylon, rayon, polyester, plastic, etc.); drinking tap water or other water with hard dead minerals in it (only minerals in actual food can be used by the human body); poor posture; spending excessive long hours inside (get out in nature more); being antisocial / unfriendly; working too much or not working at all; poor sleep habits (e.g., not getting enough sleep); never touching the bare earth (the body needs this in order to be electrically grounded); harboring feelings of hate, anger, revenge, disappointment, sadness, bitterness, unforgiveness, etc.; extensive use of fluorescent lighting (this kind of light is irritating to the nerves and has been shown to weaken the immune system); having a bad, negative attitude; cooking food too much (and thereby killing its nutritional value); using microwave ovens (they produce toxins and leak radiation); listening to all the media hype about not sunbathing (the sun strengthens the immune system, fights depression, helps the liver, produces vitamin D to allow for calcium absorption, alkalinizes the bloodstream, and fights cancer, it does NOT cause cancer of any kind; just use it responsibly and don't burn. Also, you will get none of these benefits if you use sunscreen); etc.

After you stop doing what made you sick, you need to start doing the things that will make you well. You can start with whatever activities you are accustomed to and gradually increase as you get used to doing more. Exercise until you feel good and fatigued, but not beyond that point. 5) Castor oil packs - This is an external application of castor oil to a certain part of the body. It is usually done by applying a thick layer of castor oil to a peace of cotton, silk, or wool cloth, then applying the oily side of the cloth to a certain area of skin, and putting a hot water bottle on top of this. It is basically a fomentation of castor oil. This has a cleansing effect on the area it is applied to; it also breaks up congestion and stimulates the action of the immune system in that area; because of this, it has been used with other natural procedures to destroy cancerous tumors. Castor oil packs are most frequently used over the liver and colon, but you can put it anywhere you want. 6) Hydrotherapy (hot & cold water therapy) - Heat relaxes muscles, dilates (opens up) blood vessels, increases circulation, etc. And cold constricts muscles and blood vessels, and stimulates the entire body, or a specific part if applied locally. Hot, applied locally to an area, brings in more blood; cold, on the other hand, drives the blood out of an area. Hydrotherapy uses hot and cold water to produce these effects in various parts of the body. Alternating Hot/Cold applications over a particular sick or injured area, for example, dramatically increase circulation and are very healing, especially for injuries like sprains, strains, bruises, and fractures. 7) Reflexology - This is a system of healing that operates by pressing certain points on the hands

and feet to stimulate and release blockages in various parts of the body, helping to restore it to a balanced state. There are many good reflexology charts and books available, but a beginner can benefit from this ancient healing wonder without even knowing the specific points; just massage the entire hand or foot (both left and right) with a gentle pressure. 8) Massage - Formerly thought of as just a luxury, massage is becoming more and more widely accepted, even by conventional medicine, as a powerful healing tool. It has many proven benefits like: relaxing, reducing stress and its harmful effects on the body, breaking up deposits of toxic materials inside the body (e.g., uric acid crystals, lactic acid, etc.), increasing circulation of blood and lymph, improving muscle flexibility, and others. Paying a massage therapist $60.00 for an hour of pampering is a wonderful thing to do for yourself or a loved one, but you dont need any special training if all you want to do is help a friend or family member get well. Just put you hands on the person and use your sensitivity and common sense and lots of communication about what feels best. I suggest that family members and friends take turns massaging each other. This can also make for a very pleasant social time. 9) Chiropractic adjustments - From time to time, various joints in the body can be forced out of alignment by injury, bad posture, and other things. When this happens, not only can it be painful, but it can also cut off circulation of blood, lymph, and nerve transmission, not to mention making other injuries more likely. A visit to a good chiropractor can put these joints right again, restoring normal operation. Misalignments like this can effect virtually every part of the body, so whatever your complaint, I think a chiropractic adjustment would be a good idea, just to make sure that nothing is unnecessarily sabotaging your efforts to get well. I know they have helped me tremendously. 10) Deep breathing - We tend to use only 30% or less of our full l ng capacity and so cheat u ourselves out of 70% of the oxygen we could be getting. The body needs a lot of oxygen to stay in good condition and even more to heal something that's gone wrong. By far, the best way to do this is through deep breathing. Breathe in (inhale) as deeply as you possibly can (always through your nose), then try to squeeze in another ounce or two of air, hold it for a second, then breath out (exhale) all the way... squeeze every last drop of air out of those lungs, then breath in again. This might make you cough a little at first, especially if you have a lung condition like asthma... GREAT! This is your body's way of cleaning out debris and mucus from your lungs. Don't be afraid of it, work with it. Do this for at least 10-15 minutes every single day and do it in the cleanest air you can find (definitely not on your motorcycle sitting on a crowded highway). Deep breathing also increases circulation of lymphatic fluid, lifts your mood, and makes you feel much better overall. 11) Deep relaxation techniques - This can go along with the deep breathing. It is so extremely important to release stress. Having a good regular (daily) outlet for stress in your life is just as good for you as not having any stress! There are many different ways to do this including various progressive relaxation, visualization, and meditation techniques. I have some relaxation tapes that I like to listen to. You may want to invest in a hammock and some tapes or CDs with relaxing music.

Whatever you choose, do it a little bit every single day. If you can, you may even want to do as the Europeans do and take a short nap in the afternoon. We Americans tend to think this is lazy, but the Europeans are a lot healthier than we are, so who are we to speak? ;-) 12) Juice fasting - There are many excellent books available on this subject, some of which I mentioned in chapter 3. This can be one of the most powerful healing tools in your tool chest. Don't skip it. 13) Poultices / fomentations - These are covered in chapter 4. 14) Emotional healing techniques - Since the mind and body are so closely connected, what effects one will effect the other. Some people have cured their cancer just by learning to forgive people who had wronged them. Norman Cousins healed himself of a very severe condition called ankylosing spondylitis by laughing at funny movies for several hours each day and nourishing himself more. And don't forget Patch Adams. This goes hand in hand with the stress reduction and relaxation techniques. Many things can be used to bring about an emotional healing, some of which include: stress reduction and relaxation, forgiveness, music, color therapy, Bach flower remedies, liver cleansing, St. John's Wort (herb), exercise, counseling (if you must go to some kind of doctor, make it a psychologist or psychoanalyst; I don't suggest psychiatrists because their main form of treatment is drugs and, of course, the best counseling comes from a sympathetic friend or family member), hydrotherapy, grounding yourself by touching the bare earth (touching it with your shoes doesn't count, your bare skin must make contact with the soil); and a technique I recently encountered called EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique). I have had some good success with using this method. If you would like more information on it, go to: http://www.emofree.com 15) Sunbathe Every Day - Contrary to rumors, the sun does not cause cancer, if it did, those cultures around the world that get the most sun exposure would have the most cancer, yet statistics show the exact opposite. See Chapter 5 for information on the many benefits of sunbathing. Start out with 2 minutes of sun exposure on each side of your body, the next day do 4 minutes, the next day do 6, and so on. You can work up to all day in the sun if you want, as long as you increase only 2 minutes at a time. Also, when you sunbathe, wear as little clothing as possible - if you can find a nice private place where you wont be watched, do it in the buff.

Healthy Habits
The purpose of this book is not to elaborate on each of these things; that's what my other educational products and services are for. I will, however, list a few basic healthy habits and lifestyle changes that you can start adding to your daily routine right now to start yourself on the road to great health. NOTE: Please dont try to make all of these changes at once, that can be very discouraging. Instead, pick one or two that youd like to start incorporating into your life and make the change gradually; this way, it will not seem overwhelming and youll be much more likely to stick with it. The only time I would suggest to make all of these changes at once is if youre dying fast and you have nothing to lose. In that situation, its either do something drastic or end up six-feet-under, but for most people, its far better to add a little at a time and get used to it before moving on. These things include (but are certainly not limited to): Eating plenty of fresh organic fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts, seeds, legumes, etc.; minimizing (or even eliminating) consumption of meats, dairy products, eggs, refined sugar, white flour, and anything that contains them, as well as over-cooked and highly processed foods and junk foods; eliminating "foods" that contain artificial or synthetic additives, preservatives, artificial sweeteners / colorings / flavorings or anything else not found in nature; stopping the use of ALL medical drugs / vaccinations / treatments as they are now the number 1 leading cause of death in America (according to recent statistics) and what benefits they do have are always temporary and carry with their use a high price to be paid in sideeffects and after effects) - remember that some drugs are dangerous to go off of all at once so ask someone like a Naturopathic Doctor for help; spend some time in deep relaxation every day; don't watch television news, it has been scientifically and medically proven to weaken the immune system and is a great source of extreme stress for many people, and besides, it's not even an accurate reflection of what is going on in most of the world; wear only clothes made of natural fibers like cotton, wool, hemp, silk, etc., no synthetics; walk barefoot on the bare earth for a few minutes each day, as this releases static charge buildup that can cause insomnia, emotional problems, and many other complaints; exercise daily; eat your dandelions (never spray them), they are a super food; practice deep breathing every day; always listen to the call of nature and use the restroom when you feel the need, NEVER try to hold it if you can help it; have at least 2/3 of your food raw; drink plenty of steam distilled water every day (about one gallon for the average adult); have an occasional glass of prune juice; eat organic as much as possible; forgive; laugh frequently; and get/give at least 5 hugs a day. Notice that many of these healthy habits involve simply discontinuing unhealthy habits. The human body has a remarkable ability to repair itself; all we need to do is get out of its way and live as naturally as possible and healing will happen.

Conclusion:
The Most Important Thing of All
As important as physical health is, much more important is being sure of where you will go at the end of this life; and as long as we're talking about giving new life to the physical body, this would be a good time to talk about how your spirit can have a new life too. Like it or not, we are all imperfect and we are all lost without someone above and beyond ourselves to guide us. That someone is God. If you invite Him to, he will come into your heart and renew and rejuvenate you; in fact, He will make you a whole new person! And even more than that, if you ask Him to, He will forgive every sin, every wrong thing you've ever done, give you a surpassing peace like you have never known before, and enable you to live forever with Him in heaven. Some people think that "religion" is all about going to church, living a morally perfect life (an impossibility, by the way), and performing various rites and rituals. This simply is not so! Not that those things are bad or unimportant, but they aren't what really matters, in the end. What it's all about is that God loved you (yes, YOU) so much that He sent His only Son to take your place and be punished for your sin -- He paid your debt for you, because you werent able to pay it yourself. Because of what He did, you have the opportunity to have eternal life as His free gift. Not only will you live forever in heaven after you die here, but your life in this world will be better, funner, more fulfilling, and more purposeful than you could ever imagine. His love will not only help you to be more than you are now, it will transform you into something more and better than you ever planned or wanted or thought was possible. Youll never know what wonders could be a part of your life until you choose to accept the many blessings that God wants to give to you. Studies even confirm that people who put their faith and trust in God tend to live several years longer on average and have fewer health problems. This dramatically shows how the spirit, mind, and body are indeed all connected, not separate entities, but rather different parts of the same entity (person) and helping one also helps the others. If you would like to have God give you a new and better life now and eternal life hereafter, all you have to do is ask Him. Everything has already been arranged, the debt has been paid, and He is just waiting for y to give the word. Just say out loud to Him, "Dear God, I know that I have ou sinned and need forgiveness and I want to accept your free gift of eternal life. I believe that You sent Your Son to die in my place so I wouldn't have to pay the penalty for my sins myself; and I believe that You brought Him back to life so death could be conquered and I could live forever with You. If you prayed this prayer, you no longer have to worry about where you will go or what will happen to you after your body eventually dies. You are now guaranteed to go to heaven and spend all eternity enjoying yourself more than you ever imagined possible.
