Introduction

A. Background of the study

Health behavior change is a critical factor in maintaining and improving overall well-being.
Individuals decisions related to diet, physical activity, tobacco use, and other health-related
behaviors significantly impact their health outcomes. While extensive research has explored the
determinants of these behaviors, the role of social support within local communities, such as
Barangay Libertad in Surallah, remains a relatively underexplored area.

Social support can drive individuals into health promoting behaviors by providing informative
and tangible forms of support, modeling positive health behaviors, and promoting mastery, Barangay
Libertad, situated in the vibrant province of South Cotabato in the Philippines, is characterized by a
diverse and unified community.

This barangay represents a microcosm of various socio-cultural backgrounds, where residents


share not only geographical proximity but also intricate social bonds. These bonds can manifest in
the form of familial ties, friendships, and community organizations, all of which may exert significant
influence on individuals’ health-related choices. In the Constantly developing landscape of
healthcare, the role of social support in promoting positive health behavior change has garnered
increasing attention.

Health behavior change is a complex process, influenced by multifaceted factors that extend
beyond individual choices. One crucial determinant of health behavior change is the presence and
strength of social support networks. This research delves into the heart of this dynamic interplay,
focusing on the community of Barangay Libertad in Surallah, where the influence of social support on

Barangay Libertad, like many other communities, faces its share of health challenges, ranging
from lifestyle-related issues to chronic diseases. Addressing these challenges requires a
comprehensive understanding of the local context, including the vital role played by social support

This research paper commence on a journey to uncover the intricate relationships between
social support and health behavior change in Barangay Libertad, Surallah. It explores the types and
sources of social support available to its residents, the influence of these support networks on
health-related decisions, and the resulting impact on individual and community well-being. Through a
combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods, this study seeks to shed light on the
mechanisms through which social support can be harnessed to enhance health outcomes and
inform targeted interventions.

Unity-Specific Insights Understanding the dynamics of social support and its impact on health

Here are the reason why we need to study Social Support on high repment:

initiatives. Knowing how social support affects health behavior can inform policymakers and
healthcare providers on where to focus their efforts and resources effectively.

support each other in making healthier decisions.

Preventative Measures: Understanding the role of social support may lead to the
development of preventive measures and interventions that harness existing community bonds to
encourage healthier behaviors, potentially reducing healthcare costs in the long run.

B. Statement of the Problem

The study aims to investigate the impact of social support on health behavior change, exploring the
interconnectedness between individuals’ social networks and their ability to adopt and sustain
positive health behaviors. The primary focus is to understand how various forms of social support,
such as emotional, informational, and instrumental support, contribute to or hinder individuals in
their efforts to initiate and maintain health behavior modifications.

A. Hypotheses

Hypothesis: In Barangay Libertad, Surallah, the influence of social support on changing health
behavior is significantly affected by demographic parameters. We hypothesize that age, gender,
education, and socioeconomic status will interact with social support, with certain groups, such as
older individuals, those with higher education, and higher socioeconomic status, exhibiting a stronger
correlation between social support and positive health behavior change compared to younger
individuals, lower education levels, and lower socioeconomic status.

B. Scope and delimitation

Scope:

This study focuses on assessing the environmental safety awareness and practices of Grade 12
Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) students in Libertad National High School. It investigates
the students’ knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors related to environmental safety, including topics
such as waste management, conservation, and pollution control.

The study aims to provide insights into the factors that may influence students’ Environmental safety
awareness and practices. Data will be collected through surveys, interviews, and observation of
students’ activities within the school environment. The findings may be used to develop
recommendations and educational initiatives to enhance environmental safety awareness among
Grade 12 HUMSS students.

Delimitation :

The study is limited to Grade 12 HUMSS students at Libertad National High School, and the findings
may not be generalizable to other student populations or schools.

The accuracy of self-reported data, particularly in surveys and interviews, may be influenced by
response bias, leading to potential over-reporting of positive behaviors or under-reporting of negative
behaviors.

The study’s findings are based on a specific point in time and may not capture changes in students’
environmental awareness and practices over a more extended period.

External factors, such as family influences or community dynamics, may also play a role in students’
environmental behaviors, but these factors are not extensively explored in this study.

The research may be constrained by the availability of resources and time for data collection and
analysis.

C. Significance of the Study

Educational Improvement: This study is significant as it can provide insights into the
environmental safety awareness and practices of Grade 12 Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS)
students. Understanding their current knowledge and behaviors can help educators design more
effective environmental education programs, thus contributing to improved environmental literacy
among students.

Environmental Conservation: By assessing the environmental safety practices of students,


the study may uncover areas where students can contribute to local environmental conservation
efforts. This can lead to a more sustainable and eco- friendly school environment.

behaviors of Grade 12 HUMSS students can help identify potential future

The conceptual framework for the study “Studying the Environment Safety of Grade 12 HUMSS
Students in Libertad National High School” is based on several key components

Refers to the conscious efforts and practices aimed at minimizing harm to the environment

The formal and informal processes through which students acquire knowledge, skills, and
awareness related to environmental issues. This can include classroom instruction, extracurricular
programs, and workshops.

Individual Characteristics:

Personal attributes and traits of students that may influence their environmental awareness
and behaviors, including factors such as prior knowledge, interests, and socio-demographic variables
(e.g., age, gender, socioeconomic status).

Environmental Safety Awareness:

The level of understanding and knowledge that Grade 12 HUMSS students possess regarding

METHODOLOGY

Research design

A cross-sectional design involves collecting data from a sample of individuals at a specific


point in time. In our case, we can administer surveys or questionnaires to gather information on social
support and health behavior change from residents of Barangay Libertad Surallah. This design allows
us to examine the relationship between social support and health behavior change at a single time
point.

Respondents of the study

The respondents for our study on the influence of social support on health behavior change at
Barangay Libertad Surallah would be the residents of the barangay. We would select a sample from
the population of residents to participate in our study, ensuring that they meet the inclusion criteria
and obtain their informed consent. Ethical considerations and participant confidentiality should be
maintained throughout the research process.

Data gathering instruments

The data gathering instruments for our study on the influence of social support on health
behavior change at Barangay Libertad Surallah can include surveys or questionnaires to assess social
support and health behavior.

Data collection procedure

The data gathering procedure for our study on the influence of social support on health
behavior change at Barangay Libertad Surallah involves obtaining ethical approval, developing data
gathering instruments, administering them to the selected sample of residents, and collecting and
organizing the data. Ensure informed consent, participant confidentiality, and reliability of the
