CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION

People travel for so many reasons, and one of the reasons is they love to travel to
different places, that involve work, family, health, or medical treatment, and social or
economic needs, they travel to enjoy relaxation, experience new cultures, foreign food, or
incredible landscapes different to normal surroundings. Tourists are motivated to travel to
be involved in tourism for a variety of reasons getting away from there “normal
environment” is also a reason it is a combination of factors that leads people to travel.
Religious tourism is also one of the reasons why people travel. Religious tourism is one
of the oldest forms of tourism. It is not only visiting churches, mosques, or temples, but it
is where tourists or travelers visit religious sites for deeper reasons, and it varies for
everyone. Religious sites can identify if the place is a pilgrimage, if it is sacred, if it is
said to be miraculous, or if the purpose of the site is for worship or mission. “Religious
tourism is one of the driving forces to bring people from varied backgrounds together
under a common cause: the admiration and protection of the heritage of tangible and
intangible nature,” Rifai (2016).

Background of the Study

Religious Tourism in the Philippines potentially draws tourists, that be facilitated through
religious tourism that involves pilgrimage as an act of worship. Since the Philippines has
the largest Christian nation in Asia the Government of the Philippines increases tourist
arrivals particularly among Catholics worldwide visiting churches shows a deep-seated
among Filipinos that describe the experience of some Filipinos having a space that can be
made sacred.

Extending the effort to study religious tourism in the Municipality of San Jose, Province
of Tarlac Monasterio de Tarlac, is one of the famous religious sites in Tarlac Province.
The "Monasterio de Tarlac”, on a hill in San Jose, Tarlac, was built by the servants of the
Risen Christ and can only be part of God's miraculous plan. The Priory of the Servants of
the Risen Christ (SRC), a group of monastic brothers (more properly known as Frater)

FT-CRD-113-00 | STI College Tarlac 1

managed by its Prior, Frater Ronald Thomas Cortez, SRC or Fr, created the Monasterio
de Tarlac in 2003 as their hermitage home, where "It also serves as a retreat house." (A
Purely Personal Book of Miracles, pp.72-73). Monasterio de Tarlac is considered a
pilgrimage site in Central Luzon that has a statue, or the colossal statue of Jesus Christ.

Department of Tourism cited Monasterio de Tarlac as the most revered pilgrimage site in
Central Luzon and accounts for its spiritual prominence as the shrine of the sacred relic
of the True Cross. Monasterio de Tarlac is one of the most popular tourist destinations
that religious devotees visit that was established in the year 2001 that is uphill on the
Zambales Mountain Range at Mount Resurrection Eco Park.

One motivator for visiting Monasterio de Tarlac is it has become the object of pilgrimage
by Catholics during Holy Week in Tarlac Province. Monasterio De Tarlac is also a good
place for those who want to reflect and feel the fresh air on top of the mountain away
from the city. The said place also has a daily mass where many visitors are the main
reason to visit the place. It also affects the behavior of the tourists to boost their social
ego or self-esteem.

Moreover, access to transportation is one reason why some tourists cannot easily access
the Monasterio de Tarlac. Visitors are advised to have private vehicles like vans and cars
to get there. Aside from that, there is also no accommodation for the convenience of the
tourists near the place. There are also no commercial establishments like malls,
restaurants, and supermarkets.

CHAPTER II
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

According to Vouru et al (2014) to measure the tourist motivation to visit the religious
site their main reason is to worship the vow. The factors that they analyze was because of
the secular and cultural motives”, “Pilgrimage motives” and “Spiritual motives” the
studies have been found that regarding to the tourist motivation religious tourism would
be an abundant since there are some of the numerous of religious site for visitation and it
is world-wide. The religious tourism has a four essential concepts of motivation, demand
segmentation, satisfaction, and loyalty those are factors that push to the tourist to visit the
religious site attributes of religious destination are the one attracts the tourist, satisfaction
is when the traveler make a positive evaluation of their traveling decision that define to
revisit again the site Franco et al, (2022).

Furthermore, some young tourist has a unique consumption on visiting some religious
site rather than traditional tourism market despite of perceived of mass and adult tourism.
According to Bilim (2022) education, experiencing other culture and particular
fundamental motivation and curiosity is a several that they see regarding tourist who visit
sacred site other than that the most important motivation for those young tourists is to
also interact with the local people and experience their different daily life. The roots of
their visitation because of the cultural experiences. According to Stranjančević2 (2019)
historical development is an inseparable, religious heritage is part of cultural and
historical that as potential for the development. In recent years religious site are expanded
and it has growing activities that people, according to Del Roca al et. (2020) religious
travelers motivate to visit religious site because of religious and secular experiences to
the selected scared sites found that religious motives are to comparison of its secular
motives regarded towards religious site. The destination is the one who motivate them to
visit the destination and their intrinsic spiritual desire such as satisfaction of religious
convictions and also their fulfillment of religious curiosity they also observed spiritual
participation rather than for some tourism activity that the destination has. According to
Menez al et. (2018) it was a significant that the difference of the impacts is regarding to

FT-CRD-113-00 | STI College Tarlac 7

the occupation, and some extend promoting and improving the facilities that the attract
has to attract more tourist some of the management of the religious sites also propose
some action plan.

Moreover, it’s a complicated, demanding, and difficult procedure to establish religious

tourism in undeveloped locations. The purpose of this study is to address problems in
managing religious tourism. An integrated model of religious tourism development that
may be used in all destinations at an early stage of their development or in
underdeveloped destinations is presented to ease future planning and organization both
inside and outside the destination. Spiritual and religious values are an integral
component of a given region's culture. People have traditionally traveled to fulfill their
religious requirements because of these principles. The first major excursions that have
been documented were also motivated by religious convictions (Bulatović &
Stranjančević, 2019).

In relation to, religious tourism has grown in popularity recently, but young travelers tend
to favor alternative travel options more than religious places, especially those that are part
of their own religions. Instead of choosing to travel for religious reasons, they typically
chose secular or nonreligious reasons. Young travelers' religious tourism beliefs and
related behaviors are highly significant and have an impact on their motivations and
impressions. Their choices are typically based on relaxation and self-actualization, and
their consumption patterns are concentrated on religion and entertainment needs (Bilim &
Ay, 2022).

In addition to, the agreement as religious sites support tourism by preserving culture and
religion from a sociocultural perspective and by bringing in more money for the local
economy. Grouped by occupation, frequency of visits, and destinations, there is a sizable
sociocultural and economic disparity. Analyze the sociocultural and economic effects of
religious sites on the neighborhood and how this reflects the significance and distinction
of the development of religious tourism in the province (Deri et al., 2018).

FT-CRD-113-00 | STI College Tarlac 8

In connected to, it is thought crucial to comprehend the motives and actions of religious
travelers. This paper evaluated the (religious and secular) driving reasons for religious
tourism as well as the experiences of visitors to sacred sites. It was discovered that
religious incentives greatly outweigh secular causes, which are viewed as not very major
travel motivators towards religious places, as extremely important factors for people to
start out on journey. It is clear from this that religious the fundamental spiritual desires of
visitors, such as gratifying their religious convictions and satiating their religious
curiosity, are what drive them to the location (faith and practice) (Rebuya et al., 2020).

Furthermore, the oldest type of tourism is seen as being religious. People once traveled
great distances for religious purposes. Even if pilgrimage is older than the majority of
other types of tourism, scholarly attention is still focused on the main causes of religious
travel. The monastery needs to help the local tourism industry because the area's natural
beauty, architectural significance, and cultural significance have all been recognized high
on the scale of motivation. A gift shop with sufficient information on the area's
architecture, history, spirituality, and culture should be present. The monastery's
importance there has to be additional seating areas (tables and benches) so that guests can
get a greater sense of the monastery and its surroundings (Božic et al., 2016).

In connected to, the connection between visitors and their host countries in the modern,
secular Visitors to religious locations are significantly influenced by their beliefs. The
frequency of pilgrims' visits varies according to how strongly they hold certain religious
ideas. The reasons that pilgrimage destinations are visited by religious tourists are
examined. This study specifically aims to analyze how Muslim visitors are drawn to holy
sites and what they want to gain from such visits using ethnographic research. A deeply
religious person's motivation for attending a place of worship is explored. The study will
specifically try to explain, through research, how Muslim visitors are drawn to religious
sites and what they hope to gain from their visits to such places of worship. Globally, and
reflect on how the administration of these places may affect secularism in pilgrimage
tourism (Hall & Campus, 2012).

FT-CRD-113-00 | STI College Tarlac 9

Furthermore, A developing trend in tourism in the Central Asian region is going to
spiritual places. It is believed that sacred places have the ability to heal the physical body,
enlighten the mind, and stir the heart. The study contributes to the body of knowledge on
visiting religious sites, particularly those in formerly atheist nations, and offers
recommendations to practitioners and policymakers to help them create a niche market
for tourism by segmenting travelers' reasons for visiting and their loyalty to their sacred
locations. It also helps those areas that have historical religious heritage treasures to
diversify their tourism offerings (Rybina & Lee, 2020).

In relation to, the meaning of places is founded on lived experiences of doing religion and
interacting with the sacred, as shown in vows and visions; believers' intimate and
emerging performances of places as well as of religion itself directly affect travel
inclinations. Such knowledge is essential for anticipating the results of unsuccessful
pilgrimages and the procedures for authenticating places, which might shed light on
visiting trends. Visions are individualized relationships with gods who frequently give
instructions regarding visits to sacred locations, embodying the reality as opposed to
created mediums like myths and media that may be subject to fabrication. In this setting,
the embodiment of their authentic visual contents is what drives religious travellers
(Terzidou et al., 2018).

of the Zambales Mountain Range in San Jose, Tarlac. The Monasterio de Tarlac is in
Mount Resurrection Eco Park in the barangay of Lubigan and is a 278-hectare ecotourism
park surrounded by nature with fresh natural air from the mountains.

Research Design

This research proposal will employ qualitative research, which will involve the collection
and analysis of non-numerical data. The qualitative research method is used to better
understand how people perceive the world. While there are numerous approaches to
qualitative research, they all share the flexibility of retaining rich meaning when
interpreting data.

Study of Population

The target population refers to the specific group relevant to a particular study. This

unbiased conclusion. Random sampling is to ensure the result from the sample to the
entire population and should be an equal chance for those selected. (Shadish et
al..,20020). The researcher uses the method that has an equal chance to any subjects in a
large population that will be chosen and to generalize the data that is gathered.

Research Instrument Technique

This study is a descriptive type of research that utilizes a questionnaire and interview
approach through face-to-face and google forms. The research instrument used in data
gathering and information. Questionnaires and interviews contain a set of checklists and
open-ended questions for the respondents.

CHAPTER VI

CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

The purpose of this chapter is to discuss the study's findings and recommendations. The
study's conclusion is based on the outcome and discussion of the data gathered during
implementation.

Conclusions

Based on the study findings, the researchers can conclude that the motivational factor of
tourists when visiting Monasterio de Tarlac is to help their spiritual needs. They wanted
to feel the meaning and purpose of love from God. Aside from spiritual needs, religion is
also one of the motivators of tourists. Based on the researcher’s gathered data, most of the
tourists are Roman Catholic. However, it also shows that respondents did not mind
having religious differences when visiting the place since there are a lot of things that
tourists can do and see in the place. Religious tourism is not about religion, but it is all
about faith. Additionally, this study shows that tourists find the distance and
transportation as their challenges since it takes around one hour away from Tarlac City
proper, and it requires a privately-owned vehicle to reach the place. Moreover, this study
shows that Monasterio de Tarlac is privately owned by the diocese and Provincial
Tourism Management cannot implement a program for the site. The only thing they can
do is support the decision of the diocese and help them when they needed. Since
Monasterio de Tarlac is considered an attraction in Tarlac Province, Provincial Tourism
Management still promote the place using social media like Facebook pages, using
promotional video, brochures, and adding tourism promo collaterals. Furthermore, the
effect of Monasterio de Tarlac on the tourists is they become more spiritually aware, and
tourists are persuaded and encouraged to visit again the place because of the activities,
particularly attending the mass within Monasterio de Tarlac.

Recommendations

These are some recommendations for future studies based on the findings of this study.
There are still numerous topics that can be explored and evaluated in the relation to the
research topic. To know the motivational or inspirational goal of tourists when visiting
the Monasterio de Tarlac, Sightseeing is the one that motivates the tourist to visit the
place for its place on the top of the mountain that gives a beautiful view plus the relic of
Jesus Christ. The resolute shows that tourist deeply understands the spiritual need after
visiting Monasterio de Tarlac. Accessibility to go the Monasterio de Tarlac, the distance
of the travel may be easier providing transportation is one the main solution. Adding
more activities that tourist can do whenever they visit the place, accessibility,
development, and communication to help the tourist attraction.

INTERVIEW RESULTS
1. What is your name?
'Baby' Arcenio B Lugay II
2. What is your current position in tourism department?
Former tourism officer, executive assistant of the governor, and focal person of the
tourism.
3. What are the other religious sites here in Tarlac Province except for Monasterio de
Tarlac?
A. Saint Josemaria Escriva Parish Church
Known locally as Parokya ni San Jose Maria Escriva, it is the first Church in the Province
dedicated to the saint. The St. Josemaria Escriva Parish is unique for its "drive-through"
view of the Blessed Sacrament. The church was designed by Fr. Alex Bautista and was
formally opened in 2013. The church is also home to a relic of St. Jose Maria Escriva,
founder of Opus Dei.
B. Santa Faustina of The Divine Mercy Parish
A Parish church dedicated to St. Faustina Kowalska of Poland can be found at Barangay
Canan. The parish church houses a Holy Relic of the said saint. St. Faustina Kowalska
devoted her life to Divine Mercy.
C. La Sagrada Familia, Gerona, Tarlac
The La Sagrada Familia Church in Gerona is the next emerging religious destination in
the province of Tarlac. Just seven kilometers from the main MacArthur Highway, the
church is designed by an architect and priest. Fr. Alex Bautista. The church is famous for
its altar table, part of which was used by Pope Francis in his visit to the Philippines on
January 15-19, 2015, in Papal Mass in Luneta.
D. San Sebastian Cathedral, Tarlac City
The San Sebastian Cathedral, also referred to as the Tarlac Cathedral was dedicated to
Saint Sebastian in 1686 and is the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tarlac. The
Philippine Revolution Congress convened at the San Sebastian Cathedral in 1899
E. Expiatory Chapel, Gerona, Tarlac

FT-CRD-113-00 | STI College Tarlac 23

The interior of the chapel is replete with symbols and images that remind us of how
Christ suffered and redeemed us. One of the images holds onto a ribbon, the ribbon of our
life, which is full of knots.
3. Do you consider Monasterio De Tarlac as one of the tourist attractions in Tarlac
Province?
“Yes, yun kasi ang kilala pagdating sa faith tourism dahil andun nga siya parang yung
sa Sapang Maragul, may isang lugar dun na meron din ganun pero private kaya paano
naman namin ipopromote yun so sino ang pupunta dun di’ba? Depende din kasi kung it's
open to public pwede namin ipromote yan naman ang purpose ng tourism i’entice foreign
or local have come to visit, see and witness the place if it's not opens for the public,
paano namin ipopromote diba?”
Yes, because it is known, as far as faith tourism is involved located in Sapang Maragul.
There’s another tourist spot just like it but it is private how can we promote that, who will
go there if it is private and has fees involved it should be family and tourist-friendly. It
always depends, tourism spots like this should be open to the public, both open for
foreign and local tourists so we can promote it to the masses.4. Do you have plans to
open public transportation to access the Monasterio de Tarlac?
“Since public transportation din yung nagiging reason bakit yung iba nating commuters
nahihirapan sa pagpunta dun. We're thinking about it depende kasi sa volume kung
marami maybe we could do that na maglagay ng shuttle going to Monasterio de Tarlac
kaso ang problema kasi malayo so may plano kasi since meron din kaming destination sa
TRP siguro from here to there then may isang shuttle from TRP going to up Monasterio
araw from here siguro to TRP and TRP to monasterio pinag iisipan namin ni governor
kung shuttle or jeepney na lalagyan ng design para live tignan or parang yung mga
byahing paniqui ganun pero may plano depende lang sa ilan ang pupunta or parang tour
kung may gustong pumunta na student pero may plano hopefully this year. Maybe two
buses pero depende sa budget.”

FT-CRD-113-00 | STI College Tarlac 24

Since public transportation is also the reason why some of our commuters have difficulty
accessing when coming there. We are thinking about it. If the volume of tourists is
enough for us to put a shuttle going to Monasterio de Tarlac. The only problem is the
distance. We are thinking about how it will be cost-effective for all visitors. But we have
a plan already that we are discussing. We should be able to have a pickup point from TRP
going to Monasterio de Tarlac and again it is for all who wanted to see the church and
everything it has to offer. We are already having a conversion with our Governor because
if it's only one shuttle or service going back and forth from TRP to Monasterio the shuttle
service will deteriorate fast so we are thinking if we have a jeepney or shuttle for a
service. will put a design on it to make it livelier like those shuttle services going to
Paniqui but again it depends on the volume of the church tourists which we are already
talking about and planning about it. For example, tour packages for students and put 2
buses as a service hopefully this year but again it depends on our budget.
5. How can you promote Monasterio de Tarlac despite of religious differences and how
can you encourage people to visit the place?
“Whether you are not catholic or a catholic or Iglesia ni Cristo ang nagiging ano lang sa
you can't go inside like, for example of the Iglesia ni Cristo without the permission of the
mamahala while kamukha nitong mga Monasterio de Tarlac nandiyan nakaganyan yung
discriva pupunta ka lang sa simbahan you can take pictures pwede naman din naming
i’promote din sinasama namin sa religious ano ng province we have the Catholic, Iglesia
ni Cristo, baptist and aglipayans, isinasama namin na ito yung mga faith ng province,
pero when it comes to the destinations ang naging ano lang namin ngayon ay this
destination is open for the public anytime punta ka lang sa ano discriva ng gerona
magvisit ka lang can take pictures yung ano dun baka kasi akala nyo may discrimination
sa tourism it's open to all walang discrimination kaya lang nga yun nga sa catholic kasi
more open kasi andun yung mga structures nila pwede mong puntahan at magpapicture
ka dun lang pumapasok yung kaya nagiging ano kami sa mga ito dahil open sila pero

FT-CRD-113-00 | STI College Tarlac 25

wala kaming ano all faith are welcome wala kaming discrimination sa ibang faith. And
napropromote din naman yung place by flashing in the video advertising that you can see
if sumasakay kayo ng ejeep by that napapakita naming sa tao na yung place is hindi lang
sya for the specific religion na andun but for everyone who’s willing to come.”
Depende sa mga nagpupunta there are pilgrims kasi yung pilgrims more on the Catholic
you didn't expect na yung different religions is pupunta usually kasi hindi naman yung
papapicture ka lang e ang kokompleto kasi dun is yung attend ka ng mass it is very hard
for the different religions to do that pero ding Muslim na pumupunta para makita yung
lugar walang ano pero more on the pilgrims and devotees of the Catholic faith. Kunwari
may tour hindi mo naman tatanungin kung anong religion nya basta kung ano man sya
ng Tarlac pero we did try to promote every yung mga religions ang Monasterio de Tarlac
ay open sa lahat you should view the place dahil maganda ng view ng San Jose that's
how we promote the Monasterio de Tarlac through tour packages tsaka yung mga
devotees and pilgrims coming from the different parts of the Philippines pumupunta just
to experience and siguro dahil may mga panata sila usually pag nay panata ka kahit
saan pupuntahan mo so it's open for everybody.”
Whether you’re catholic or not, it is not limited to any faith. Our structures are always
open for all faith believers and churchgoers. Unlike other religions for example INC
church, before you can go inside you still need permission from the caretaker. We have
old churches that we can promote and is open to the public for any religious believer. Just
like other pilgrimages, you can just go in – take pictures. We can always include that
whenever we promote Monasterio de Tarlac in the province in Catholic, Iglesia ni Cristo,
Baptist, and Aglipanyans.
Now, our advantage is being open to all colors, faith believers, and pilgrims and we also
promote the place by having a video advertising through e-jeep when some of our
commuter ride that transportation and also by posting on social media. There’s no
discrimination here in our District and we are proud of that. No permission needed nor
extravagant fees are needed, people can just go in take pictures, appreciate the church’s
structure, and pray for devotion. It also depends on the people who come, different
pilgrims come here. Taking pictures is not the only thing that will complete the visit here,
but it is attending the mass. It is very hard though for all religions to attend mass like the

FT-CRD-113-00 | STI College Tarlac 26

Muslims they go here for the view, to take pictures, and just to appreciate the view but
most of the goers are pilgrimage and devotees of the catholic faith. Of course, we are not
just going to blindly ask what’s their religion. We mainly promote Monasterio de Tarlac
for its view and its history. We promote Monasterio de Tarlac through our tour packages
to all religions but mainly to Devotees and pilgrims coming from different places on all
Islands of the Philippines to experience and witness the beauty of the places. I also
believe are going here to go on a pilgrimage and visit all churches in line with their
devotion.
6. Is Eco Park being part of the Monasterio de Tarlac?
“No Eco Park is not part of Monasterio de Tarlac kasi ang Monasterio de Tarlac ay
slanby diocese dati slandby yung grupo ng pari ang may hawak si father Archi lately it
take over by the diocese of Tarlac so ang may hawak dun yung diocese ang Eco Park we
came to develop that area kasi pag ang isang pilgrim and devotees pumunta roon
magdadasal at magpipicture after nun uuwi parang ang burden naman sa kanila na
nagtravel for so many hours tas wala ka ng mapupuntahan babalik kana kaya ganun
yung na conceptualize namin a place to stay after or before ka pumunta ng Monasterio
de Tarlac sa Eco Park kasi meron yung view deck, picnic ground and etc. Idedevelop ulit
namin butterfly farm at kung papayagan kami ng DENR we will be setting up para sa
mga ibon kung papayag ang DENR pero hindi sya part ng Monasterio de Tarlac parang
nilagyan lang namin ng mga sstayan ng pilgrims at devotees’ para maenjoy at maging
memorable para sa kanila.”
No, Eco Park is not part of Monasterio de Tarlac because we are a standby diocese. Back
then, the group of priests has the authority over Eco Park but lately, it was taken over by
the diocese of Tarlac. The Eco Park was developed for the pilgrims and devotees to have
a place where they can have a solemn place to pray and take pictures before they go
home. It is also for them to lose the burden and ease up their tiredness going here since it
is far from the proper city. We developed the Eco Park the way it is to reward the tourists
with a nice like our view deck, picnic ground, and other parts of it. We will further
develop the Eco Park like the Butterfly Farm and if DENR will allow us we will be
setting up some sort of Bird Farm or Bird tourist attraction for the pilgrims and devotees

FT-CRD-113-00 | STI College Tarlac 27

to enjoy and cherish all memories while they stay here. We want to set up a place where
they can make all view and make it memorable for them to be with their family.
7. What are the programs have you implemented for Monasterio de Tarlac?
“Well incomprehension of the diocese of the Tarlac kung ano naman ang kailangan nila
sinusuportahan naman ng Province basta may hiningi naman sila in all religions of
Tarlac Province ay open to their request lahat ng lumapit kay governor
inaaccommodate.”
In the comprehension of the diocese of Tarlac, we are being supported by the province in
whatever we need as long as the programs we relayed and proposed are for the good of
the masses and how to improve the Monasterio. Also, the Province of Tarlac is open to all
religions, and they support all religions with whatever requests we are being
accommodated.
The diocese of Tarlac plans and prepares the programs of the Monasterio de Tarlac, but
the Tarlac Provincial Tourism Office continues to support the destination through
inclusion in the tourism’s promo collaterals like video, brochures, and social media
postings.
8. What are your plans in the future for Monasterio de Tarlac?
“Depende din sa diocese kung ano yung gusto nilang gawin pero ang Monasterio de
Tarlac is the largest tourism destination in Tarlac, so we aim to promote it siguro yung
accessibility going there pagdating kasi sa Monasterio de Tarlac sa kanila na yun pero
kung ano man yung kailangan nila ibibigay naman pero yung going there, stay there yun
ang maitutulong naming government sa Monasterio de Tarlac aside from the promotion
and advertisement.”
That depends on the diocese, it always depends on what they want to do and how to
improve Monasterio de Tarlac because we are the largest tourism destination in Tarlac so
aim to promote it. Maybe the accessibility going and staying there is what we can help
and aid with. However, whatever Monasterio de Tarlac will need will provide aside from
promotion and advertisement.
9. But did they already mention any plans for Monasterio de Tarlac?
“Lately wala pa usually nagkakaroon lang ng ganyan during malapit na ang anniversary
and Lenten season kaya nga ang Monasterio de Tarlac kasi wala man station of the

FT-CRD-113-00 | STI College Tarlac 28

Cross ganyan ang Eco Park ang nilagyan namin kasi yung monesterio kasi andun ka
lang para magdasal ganun the attraction is for pictures picture ganun more on the
pagdadasal, spiritual, wakening, contemplating and something.”
Lately, nothing has been mentioned but usually, when the anniversary and Lenten season
is coming, they will normally reach out to aid them. For example, when the station of the
cross was built it was placed in the Eco Park because Monasterio de Tarlac was a solemn
place where tourists and pilgrims for praying, spiritual awakenings, contemplating, and
others. While the Eco Park has the Station of the Cross for the view and for their families
to be together and that’s the reason why the station of the cross was built to Eco Park or
the people to spend time together and just enjoy while the Monasterio stands as it is for it
to be a solemn and divine place where people can just connect to God.
10. Do you consider adding some recreational activities in Monasterio de Tarlac?
No, not in Monasterio de Tarlac but in the Eco Park.
11. How about the Bike Thrills located in Monasterio de Tarlac?
“Hindi sa Monasterio de Tarlac yun dadaan lang sila dun pero hindi sila pwede dun kasi
magagalit sila pero sa may Eco Park may bike thrills dun pero sa monesterio pwede dun
ang picture taking and souvenir pero yung mismong recreational hindi pwede kaya nga
ginawa namin yung Eco Park.”
It is not located in Monasterio de Tarlac. They can only pass by using the bike trails and
then through the Eco Park because it is prohibited there, and it is a divine place. That’s
why we built the Eco Park for recreational events like biking and picnic. They can only
take pictures in Monasterio.
12. How about the accommodation?
“About sa accommodation hindi pa namin napag uusapan dahil sa diocese hindi ko alam
kung mag oopen sila ng parang boarding or retreat of not siguro kasi depende sa
dadating e if we think na madaming madami na maybe the province of Tarlac open
parang yung mga kubo kubo na pweding pagtirahan, cottage parang ganun siguro if ever
na madami na the provincial government can come up about it for the family and as a
group yun ang mga pweding amenities na pweding idagdag dun maglalagay pa kami ng
mga ktv's, bikes ganyan. Meron ding camping sites sa baag from the Monasterio de
Tarlac 6 kilometers lang sya tumatanggap sila ng mga campers.”

FT-CRD-113-00 | STI College Tarlac 29

The accommodation we haven’t had any discussions about it yet since the diocese did not
express any intentions to build any accommodations. Maybe, if they will discuss it, they
may want to build a retreat camp or a boarding house for those who want to stay
overnight in the area. However, again it depends on how many people going to the place.
If the tourists are enough the Province of Tarlac maybe open nipa huts pr cottages where
they can rest and stay over the night. The Government of Tarlac can come up as well with
amenities for families or for groups like KTVs, additional bikes on Eco Park, and things
like that. There’s also a camping ground /Sites in Baag from Monasterio de Tarlac 6
kilometers away if they want to camp.
