SomaticInquiryEssentials 230906 194255

This document provides an overview of somatic inquiry techniques for exploring and releasing repressed emotions, trauma, and energetic contractions in the body. It discusses that suffering arises from seeing oneself as separate from one's true nature due to "non-seeing" and childhood trauma. Somatic inquiry uses tools like awareness, panorama, mining, and boomerang to bring unconscious emotions and beliefs into awareness in order to dissolve the sense of separation and realize one's limitless nature. The goal is to feel and express previously repressed emotions safely with a facilitator in order to heal wounds from the past and be free from suffering.

Somatic Inquiry Essentials

In the return to love, we must face all of ourselves.

Context

You want to be free from suffering.

To be free from suffering you must be clear on the

causes of suffering.

What are they?

There is a little wave heading for a nearby cliff. He

realizes that this is going to be the end of his life.

Sad.

The reason he suffers is because he appears separate

from his fundamental nature, water.

The one, whole, complete body of water is

unaffected by the rising and falling of the single
wave.
The cause of separation, and therefore suffering, is
two fold for the wave.

One, he’s got the wrong vision. He takes himself to

be an individual wave. To fix this wrong vision he
simply needs to turn inwards and recognise his
essential nature as water.

The second cause of his separation, and therefore

suffering, is the earthquake (trauma) in the bottom of
the ocean that propelled him into duality.

In the same way, your suffering has two causes.

Your essential nature is limitless, whole and

complete.

It’s one without a second.

It’s nameless but it’s named Brahman. This.
Unconditional Love. Isness. The Tao. The Heart.
The Self.

I’ve named it Non-Duality in the chart.

You appear as separate, and therefore suffer, for two

reasons.

The first is non-seeing. The fix is correct vision. This

is done through a process of Self-Inquiry which
focuses on the recognition of your true nature as
limitless existence awareness.

Or in simple terms, that you are and always have

been, free.

For now you can forget about the top part of the
chart. I will write about that more in the future.
Gabor mate said “Trauma is not what happened to
you, but what happens inside of you as a result of
what happens to you”

So the second cause of separation, and therefore

suffering, is the wound that was left inside of you
that is born from painful childhood experiences.

In short, you had to develop a sense of individuality

to survive.

If you refer to the chart at the top of this book you

can see this wound is made up of 6 components.

1. Repressed Emotions. These are emotions that

you learnt were too dangerous to express, so you
repressed them. Emotions like anger, hurt, guilt,
shame, and self hatred. These can also include
repressed identity like sexuality and gender.
2. Fear. Underneath repressed emotion and identity
is fear of expressing those emotions and
identities. There is also fear of feeling and
expressing this fear.
3. There is a layer of resistance that covers these
repressed emotions and frozen fear.
4. Deficiency stories. These are core beliefs you
have about yourself that remain unconscious yet
drive much of your behavior. Examples are “I’m
worthless” “I’m unlovable” “I can’t trust anyone”.
5. Hidden emotions. These are emotions that are
unconscious but are easier to feel than repressed
emotions. For example I spent my whole life
anxious. Hidden underneath that was a layer of
sadness which would seemingly arise out of
nowhere. Then underneath that sadness was
repressed anger.
6. There is another layer of resistance that blocks
us from recognising our deficiency stories and
hidden emotions.
7. All of the repressed and hidden emotions form
into energetic contraction that we label “The
body”. You can also call these energetic
contractions pain, sensation, tension, or feelings
etc
8. Mind. All of your conscious thoughts and
feelings belong here.

That is the wound that was left inside of you after

painful childhood experiences.

I will elaborate on the chart using my own story as

an example, but this applies to everyone.

I was jabbed in the throat as a child.

At that moment, unconsciously I repressed my anger.

Beneath that is the fear of expressing that anger. Had

I done so I would have been kicked out of the family,
hurt more or not loved by mum.

On top of that I believed I’m weak and I’m worthless.

Those are my two main deficiency stories.
After I was jabbed in the throat, I ran to my room in
tears and fear and completely zoned out, pretending
that I didn’t exist.

This became my way to survive in the world. This

became my individuality.

I lived, unknowingly, with a dense contraction in my

chest, throat and between the eyebrows.

I was anxious. I had bouts of sadness that seemingly

came out of nowhere. I was addicted to alcohol. I was
constantly distracting myself. I was a people pleaser.
A nice guy.

That was all safe.

Expressing Anger was dangerous. It meant death.

Being hit again. Being kicked out of the family. Not
being loved by mum. (These thoughts were not
conscious then, but only as I started doing this work)

So what’s the solution?

When you open to feel and express your repressed

emotions, then the sense of individuality you created
out of safety starts to dissolve.

And, combined with Self-Inquiry, the oneness that

you are becomes apparent.

This is my direct experience. You don’t have to

believe me. You can see it for yourself using the tools
presented in this booklet.

This little course and book is a thorough

introduction on learning how to safely feel and
express those buried emotions.
The way to do that is Somatic Inquiry. Also known
as the Kiloby inquiries developed by Scott Kiloby and
Dan Mclintok.

This work should only be done with the help of a

facilitator in the beginning, however I’m aware
people want to try before they buy.

You can book a session with me or with a facilitator

at kiloby.com

The ultimate goal is to empower you with the tools

so you don’t need a facilitator. There is a whole
system of advanced inquiry tools beyond this book
that can only be learnt with a facilitator or in a group
dynamic.

Knowing that, please take it easy.

This book is designed to go along with the Somatic

Inquiry Essentials video course. With love.
Awareness

The foundational practice of somatic inquiry is

Awareness.

What is it?

You have the capacity to observe your thoughts,

which are words and pictures, in the mind.

You can observe the sensations and feelings in the

body.

This witness or observer is called awareness,

presence or consciousness.

It is ever present. Unchanging. Untouched by the

activity of the body-mind.
As we stand as that awareness, and observe the
constantly changing thoughts, they slowly lose their
grip over us.

We become free of them.

At the start of your journey you direct your attention

to awareness. You rest in it. You become aware of it.

Until you see that awareness is effortlessly present.

If you aren’t able to recognise this awareness, no

worries.

As you transmute the energetic contractions in your

body and continue to inquire you will see that it
shines effortlessly.
Awareness Practice

Shut your eyes or leave them open.

Be aware.

Be aware of the noises outside the room as they rise

and fall in awareness.

Be aware of the space in the room that surrounds

you.

Be aware of the silence throughout that space.

Be aware of the sensation between your feet and the

ground. Between your legs and your seat. Be aware
of the way your back is supported by the chair.

Be aware of the body.

Be aware of the sensations that feel dense, tight and
contracted.

Allow them to be seen and felt with compassion.

Be aware of the lighter sensations of the body.

Be aware of the space that hugs them both.

Allow these sensations to express themselves without

an agenda. They don’t need to be anything other
than what they are right now.

Become aware of the pictures, words and feelings

that make up the mind.

Allow them to flow, without interruption.

There are no good or bad thoughts. There is no need

to control them. To silence them. Just allow them to
be as they are.
You don’t need to experience anything other than
the experience you’re having right now.

Allow the natural expression of your mind and body

without any intervention.

Then continue to inquire using the tools in this

book.
Panorama

Panorama is an inquiry technique that is used to

bring energetic contraction in the body out of
hiding.

You simply bring an image of a person, object or

event into the mental field and observe the response
in the body and mind.

Rest as awareness.

In your mind bring in the image of your father.

Be aware of the energetic response in the body.

Observe that energy, pain, tension or contraction

with love.

Allow it without agenda.

It doesn’t need to change or leave.

Repeat the process with your mother.

You can also do this with siblings, exes, bullies,

teachers and gurus.

Anyone who has had a profound effect on your life.

If you don’t think in pictures, use words or sounds.

Be creative.

Once the contraction is observed you can Inquire

using the tools in this book.

You can also use images of experiences, memories,

objects of addiction, future events and goals.
When enquiring It’s especially powerful to bring
mum and dad into the mental field, both together or
individually.
Mining

“If this sensation had a voice, what would it say?”

Mining is a tool that’s used to make unconscious

programs in bodily sensations conscious.

Rest as awareness.

Bring an object, person or experience into the

mental field.

Allow the sensations in the body to be seen and felt

with compassion.

They belong.

If there are multiple, pick the one which is drawing

your attention.
Ask “If this sensation, feeling or contraction had a
voice, what would it say?”

Variations are;

“What does this mean?”

“What does this body part want to express?”
“What does this feeling have to say?”

Be creative.

Be aware of the words that arise to awareness.

Allow them to arise, transform, and dissolve in your

seeing.

Become aware of the initial sensation.

Has it shifted? Stayed the same? Gotten stronger or

weaker?
It’s all allowed.

Repeat, or go out and have a walk and some water.

You deserve it champion.

Boomerang

“What does this mean about me?”

The Boomerang is used to make hidden deficiency

stories conscious.

A deficiency story is a belief you have about yourself

that formed in childhood.

They drive your behavior as an adult, yet they

remain unconscious.

Some examples are;

I’m weak. I’m worthless. I can’t trust anyone. I’m

unloveable. I can’t be seen. I’m stupid.

As these beliefs become conscious we see that they’re

not who we are.
They rise and fall in awareness, but you don’t rise
and fall with them.

They aren’t inherent to your being.

Freedom is in seeing these deficiency stories for what

they are; a belief that has nothing to do with you,
awareness.

There are three ways you can use the boomerang.

One; When you’re triggered.

Two; on a sensation.

Three; on an object in your panorama.

You can use these variations of the boomerang or

you can make one that feels true to you.
“What does this mean about me?”
“What identity does this bring up in me?”
“What belief was handed down to me?”
“What deficiency story is arising in me?”

Be open. Be creative.

Now we will go more in depth on each individual use

of the boomerang.
Boomerang when you’re triggered.

You’re triggered.

You woke up and your partner did not reply to your

8pm text.

The uber eats driver is driving in the wrong direction

and all you want is your avocado toast, hash brown
and snickers smoothie.

The lady at the gym spoke to you like a child because

you forgot your wristband.

(These are definitely, one hundred percent not my

personal examples 😋 )

Put simply, any situation in which you’re triggered.

Ask “What does this mean about me?”

Observe the response in the body and mind from
awareness.

No Text.

“I’m unloved”

Uber is driving in the wrong direction.

“I’m being manipulated.”

Gym interaction.

“I’m stupid”

Observe the story from awareness until it falls away

on its own.

And enjoy your fasted gym session without any

notifications to distract you.
Boomerang on a sensation.

Deficiency stories are hidden in contractions, pain,

sensations and tension in the body.

Rest as Awareness.

Panorama.

You’re getting the hang of it.

Identify sensation.

Ask “What does this sensation, contraction, pain or

tension mean about me?”

“What identity is hiding in this sensation?”

“What self belief is under this feeling?”

Allow deficiency story to be seen from awareness.

On a Panorama.

Bring an object, person or experience in the mental

field.

Ask “What does this mean about me?”

Be aware of responses in the mind and body.

Utility

“What do I get out of believing x?”

“What do I get out of being x?”

The utility inquiry is useful for recognising that you

benefit from your suffering.

When a deficiency story arises, ask;

“What do I get out of believing this?”

The response is usually either love, safety, protection

or attention.

You can also experiment with the reverse utility

inquiry.

“I don’t get anything out of believing x”

Observe the “yes I do” thought from awareness.

Reverse Inquiry

Take anything that you believe and reverse it.

This will pull out the unconscious conditioning

around that belief from the body, and make it
conscious.

Rest as awareness.

Panorama mum and dad.

Reverse a belief, or deficiency story.

“I’m not weak”

“I can trust people”
“I can connect with people”
“I’m worthy of love”

Be creative.
If you need a few places to start, try these.

“I can say and do what I want”

“I’m not afraid to lose you”
“I can be vulnerable”
“I can express myself”

A very important point to be noted here.

Reverse inquiry is not an affirmation.

It’s used to elicit the sensations and unconscious

conditioning hiding in the body-mind.

Affirmations are heady.

This is hearty.

Like soup.

You get it?

Souper. Let’s move on.
Testing for repression.

Bring up mum in a panorama.

Observe the response in the body and mind from

awareness.

Say

“I can express anger to you”

Does the body say “no I can’t”?

Does the body say “yes I can?”

If the body says no, that indicates emotional

repression.

Repeat with these.

“I can express hurt to you”
“I can express shame to you”
“I can be masculine / feminine”

Be creative. Make them your own. Make these

statements true for you.

You may not get words. You may just feel a

contraction, a tightening or a tension that feels like a
no.

Repeat the same with Dad or primary caregivers.

We can repress different emotions with different

people.

Some people repress anger primarily. Some hurt.

Some repress both.
Understanding your primary emotional repression
(which can be a mix) is important for deeper inquiry
work.

Most of your suffering, addiction and identity was

constructed around not feeling and expressing those
emotions.

You will come to understand your primary repression

as you inquire and work with a facilitator.
Vulnerability Inquiry

“I’m not (x emotion)”

Now that you’ve identified what emotion you are

repressing, you can simply reverse it.

Bring an object, person, memory or experience into

the mental field.

Or it can also be done without using a panorama.

And Say;

“I’m not angry”

“I’m not hurt”
“I’m not ashamed”
“I’m not humiliated”
“I’m not disgusted”

“I’m not (insert emotion you’ve repressed)”

A few things will happen here.

One; the body will respond with a yes, and words

and pictures will flood the mental field
corresponding to the emotion.
If this is so, stay aware.

Observe the words and pictures arise and fall.

Draw the words and pictures out of the sensation

with love.

Two; words and pictures won’t arise but the

energetic contraction will respond with a yes.
Meaning it will tighten, tense, flare up or start
burning.

If this is so you need to “listen deeply” to the

contraction. Repeat the vulnerability inquiry to draw
the words and pictures out of the sensation.
The only other solution to this is third dimension
work, which is beyond the scope of this book.

Three; you will hit resistance.

Resistance can be in the form of a block, a blankness,

a distraction, lethargy, mental images, and even
feelings of compassion and love for the person you’re
enquiring into.

There are many forms of resistance.

It is a natural and important part of this process.

If this happens, allow the resistance to be seen and

held with compassion.

It belongs as much as the emotion. It is there to tell

you something.

Simply be aware of it.

Mine.

“If this resistance had a voice what would it say?”

“What does this resistance mean about me?”
“What does this resistance have to say about me
feeling my (insert repressed emotion)?”
“What’s the meaning behind this resistance?”

Observe the response from awareness.

The resistance will slowly dissolve, and you can

return to the vulnerability inquiry.
