Pile Design

The document discusses the process for designing piles to resist lateral shear and base shear loads. It involves calculating the subgrade modulus of the soil to model the soil-pile interaction, representing this interaction graphically, importing the model into structural analysis software to determine pile moments from base shear loads, and using these moments and axial forces to design the pile reinforcement. Reinforcement should be over 1% for piles in liquefiable soil layers.

(base from sample)

Compute the soil spring capacity for each meter

Sample:
Sa = 30,000 kPa/m * Dp for each meter * 1m

3. Model to STAAD sample

Compute the moment to be generated due to the

lateral effect of the base shear

4. Design

Using the section properties of the pile, compute

the required As from the given Moment and Axial force.

Provided reinforcement for bored piles should be

greater than 1% for liquifiable layer.
