A software update provides bug fixes and minor software enhancements and is made
available by free download.
A software update is sometimes called a software patch because it is applied over
software that you already have installed.
A software update does not provide a full software package installation.

This is an overview of how the T24 Updates system works.
The bank requires an update.
It can search for the updates in the Temenos Customer Support Portal (tcsp), provided
the bank has registered with the tcsp.
After the registration, the bank should register its T24 system with the Temenos
Customer Support Portal. This is a one time step. The system information (in the form
of an xml file) should be extracted from the bank’s T24 Server using toolbox and with
the extracted information, the T24 system can be registered with tcsp.
The bank should login to the tcsp, select the registered T24 system, check for
available updates.
A list of available updates will be provided to the bank.
The bank may then choose an appropriate update, download and install it using the
T24 updater tool.

The T24 family of products, T24 itself, TAFC, TAFJ, TAGJ, T24 Browser, ARC-IB and
T24 Toolbox.
For example, a new version of T24 Browser together with T24 can be provided in an
update, the server code will install automatically and the setup files for the browser are
extracted for you to install. The T24 Updater will also verify the current version you are
using and advise if the one supplied is not a valid update.
It is possible that an update could contain several products (TAFC, T24 Browser,
ARC-IB etc) you are more likely to keep your system updated with smaller updates so
you can self-manage the impact of taking changes.
In summary T24 Updater has built in version checking for the T24 products and a
dependency checker that will safeguard the installation of your selected updates.
Updates should not be done until the appropriate levels of backups have been made
according to what parts are being updated.

TCSP is an online portal where,
The Updates available for the issues logged
We can download the same from the portal.
But before getting the updates the system has to be registered into TCSP.
Let us now learn how to register the system into TCSP
TAD-T24 Updates.R14 6
The first step to register the system to TCSP, is to extract the system information
using T24 toolbox.
Registering the system is a one time activity and the registered system details can be
updated at any point in time in future.
To do this:
Login to T24 using T24 toolbox. Once you have logged in click on System Update
button.
TAD-T24 Updates.R14 7
You will be taken to a screen as shown above, where you can get the details about
T24, the products with the updates installed, and the environment variables.
Click on create System Definition File to extract the system definition as an XML file
TAD-T24 Updates.R14 8
Now click on the Create System Definition File in the right pane.
TAD-T24 Updates.R14 9
You may get a warning message as shown above. This is because the ARC-IB URL is
not configured as shown earlier. So click on Yes to continue. Now you have to specify
where to save this file.
The system definition data has been extracted using T24 toolbox.
TAD-T24 Updates.R14 10
After extracting the system definition, you need to register yourself to Temenos
Customer Support Portal. Registration might take up to some time as it needs to be
verified and approved by Temenos. And this is a one time registration.
Have a look into the video about how to add a system to T24 update and to download
the updates.
TAD-T24 Updates.R14 11
Once you have the required updates downloaded, you need to install the same. To do
so you need a tool called as T24 Updater
Note: The gtar utility is similar to tar but can handle the longer file or path names that
can occur.
Note: The tar utility is not supplied as standard in Windows but commercial, open
source or free versions are available. You may need to amend your path to ensure the
command is usable in the T24 home directory.
TAD-T24 Updates.R14 12
Obtain the T24ProductUpdater_<OS>.tar file from distribution
([email protected])
T24 Updater Tool installation is a one step process that involves extraction of the
installation file under the UD directory
TAD-T24 Updates.R14 13
Set the directory permissions on the installed updater directory. Ensure that the
updater.bat or updater.sh file in the updater/bin has execute permission.
Part of the process of the updater tool involves the routines of the release procedure,
so it is necessary to have access to a temp.release area. The update process uses the
same build lists as a normal release and the infrastructure for these are readily
available in a temp.release area.
TAD-T24 Updates.R14 14
The updater.xml file is used to configure the products that you can update using the
updater tool. It is used to specify the installation path and storage directories. The file
is located under the D:\Temenos\Temenos\ModelBank-R14-
TAFJ\T24\Env\MB\Data\UD\updater\config directory. It will be validated against the
updater.xsd schema file that is located in the same directory. It contains a default
entry for each T24 product that can be updated with the Updater. The <updatesdir>
tag is the path where you must put your updates. While the TAFJ_HOME,
JBCRELEASEDIR, T24_HOME variables are used in the configuration file, you may
also provide the full path of these environment variables are not set in the .profile file.
Each product has a <path> section which defines the version check routine for the
product, an <installpath> section for the product install location and an
<installprogram> section for the routine used to update the product. Move any
products that aren’t in use inside the comment section that starts “Services not in use
go here”
Valid updateTypes are AUTO and MANUAL.
MANUAL: the updater will validate the update but not perform the update. Manual
updates will be moved to the setup_files directory after the updater terminates.
AUTO: the <installpath> and <installprogram> tags are mandatory as the updater will
try to perform the update after it is validated. The updater will call the program
specified within the <installprogram> tag to actually do the update.
Valid pathType attributes are EXEC, URL, and FILE.
URL: the update will be MANUAL. Applications such as TAGJ and T24 BROWSER
might have multiple installations or servers that need to be updated. For this reason,
updates are manual.
TAD-T24 Updates.R14 15
EXEC: the updater will try executing the program in the <path> tag
FILE: the updater will simply read the file from the <path> tag
TAD-T24 Updates.R14 15
Place the update that you have downloaded into \bnk.run\updater\updates. Then install
the downloaded updates by executing the updater.bat, which is under
\bnk.run\updater\updates.
Once the installation completes successfully, you can see the zip file that contains the
update is been moved to processed folder.
TAD-T24 Updates.R14 16
Once the updates.zip is installed, the records can be viewed in T24 under
T24.UPDATES.RELEASE application and the release status will be updated as ‘N’
which denotes that the records are still not released in T24 further.
TAD-T24 Updates.R14 17
Once the updater.bat completes successfully, you need to run the service
T24.Updates.
You can find this service prefixed with the mnemonic of the bank.
Note: Refer to the COBMultithreading course for details on how to run a service
TAD-T24 Updates.R14 18
Here you can see the execution snapshot of the service
TAD-T24 Updates.R14 19
The above service will release the updates.zip records to T24 and the ‘Data release’
will get updated as ‘C’ which denotes that the Data release to T24 is completed.
Once the records are released those can be viewed in T24 under exceptions list.
TAD-T24 Updates.R14 20
Once updates installed, move the jar files manually from the
<C:\Temenos\ModelBank-R13-TAFJ\T24\Programs\TAFJ\updates> to
<C:\Temenos\ModelBank-R13-TAFJ\T24\Common\Jars\t24> where all the T24 jar
files are placed
