Lesson Plan: ChatGPT - A Curse or a Blessing

Objective:
 The lesson aims to collaboratively explore the impact of ChatGPT on society.
 Students will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of ChatGPT.
 The lesson will focus on developing vocabulary related to technology and
artificial intelligence.
 Students are expected to engage in critical thinking.
 The lesson will contribute to improving English language skills.
Duration:
 80 minutes
Materials:
 Whiteboard/flip chart and markers
 Projector or screen for video
 Video clips related to AI and ChatGPT
 Handouts with relevant vocabulary
 Index cards for debate points

1. Introduction (15 minutes):

 A general discussion on technology's influence on daily life will be initiated.
 The speaker will introduce the topic: "ChatGPT - A Curse or a Blessing?". The
speaker will ask students to explain the meaning of the topic for them.
 Students will share their initial thoughts and opinions and answer the following
warm-up questions:
1. Should it be allowed/prohibited to use ChatGPT in the university? Should
teachers/students use it?
2. Are some professions in danger because of it?
3. How does it assist you in your studies?
4. What are the consequences of using ChatGPT for our mental capabilities (Will
we become more stupid/lazy? Will we lose the motivation to learn? Will we
depend on it to solve our problems and do all work for us? Can it have negative
consequences for our critical thinking? )
5. Should there be laws restricting the use of ChatGPT?
6. Should ChatGPT be a platform with a paid subscription in the future? If yes,
how high should the fees be?
7. Do you support ChatGPT (AI) or are you against it?

2. Mind Map Activity (15 minutes):


 Students will be asked to brainstorm the words related to ChatGPT, AI and
modern technologies. They will be asked to write words one by one on a board.
 They will collaboratively create a mind map exploring the positive and
negative aspects of ChatGPT.

3. Video Watching (20 minutes):
 Short video related to AI and ChatGPT will be shown.

 Relevant vocabulary and expressions will be introduced during these
discussions.

 Handouts with vocabulary related to technology, AI, and ChatGPT will be
distributed.
 Students will work individually or in pairs on the vocabulary exercise.
 The teacher will review answers during the class.

 The (1) revolutionary AI program chat GPT can write computer software,
student essays, and news stories.
 Some teachers are concerned about the program's (2) implications in the
classroom.
 Students admitted to using chat GPT for help with their final exams, leading

5. Debating on the Topic (20 minutes):


 Students will be assigned to either the "pro" or "con" side of the debate:

You will have to prepare argument for each point that I gave you, you will
have enough time and if you need help you can adrresss me. If necessary you
can use transaltion websites, ut I want you to discuss the topic in the goups
really thoroughly to train your speaking skills. As I said if you need any help,
with transaltaion or grammar you can ask me.
Also, I would really like that each person in the group could talk, provide an
argument
My role will be as a debate mediator
 Index cards with key points for each side will be provided.
 Students will have time to prepare their arguments, and a debate will be
conducted, allowing expression of views and counterarguments.
6. Whole Class Discussion (10 minutes):
 The class will be brought back together for a whole-group discussion.
 Groups will present their synthesized viewpoints, and open dialogue will be
encouraged.
 The speaker will ask probing questions to deepen understanding.
7. Conclusion (5 minutes):
 Key points from the debate and discussion will be summarized.
