Chapter 1: Introduction
Overview
SCENE 2go makes it easy for you to share read-only scan projects with partners and customers.
SCENE 2go consists of an app and a viewer. The app is installed in SCENE and used to transfer the viewer
and scan projects to the storage media that you choose. The viewer is portable and does not require an
Internet connection for most features.
The SCENE 2go viewer and scan projects are meant to be saved on a USB flash drive and used on a
Windows or macOS device but you can transfer to practically any storage media. You can also transfer to a
folder and then copy the folder to a Windows or macOS tablet or burn on a DVD.
Requirements
SCENE 2go app: SCENE with a valid license (including the trial period).
Installataion
1. Open SCENE.
2. Click the App icon in the Workflow Bar to open the Apps toolbar.
6. In the App Manager, click button , then select the .fpp file that you downloaded from the
App Center.
The toolbar in SCENE now shows an icon for SCENE 2go. If you open the drop-down menu, the options
for SCENE 2go are shown.
NOTE: SCENE 2go uses the same data format as WebShare. If you have already created data for
WebShare, you may skip to Transferring Data to SCENE 2go below.
2. In the Apps pane, select SCENE 2go > Create SCENE 2go data.
3. Adjust the Export and Project settings according to your needs, then select Export. (You can learn
more about these settings in the Export chapter of the SCENE User Manual.) Depending on the
number of scans in the project and on the export options you choose, this can take a long time.
After the export data is successfully created, a message is shown. Now, you can transfer the data to your
USB flash drive or other storage media. Note that if you make any changes to your SCENE project after you
create the SCENE 2go data, those changes will not be visible when you transfer the data. If you want the
changes to be visible in SCENE 2go, you must create the data again.
NOTE: If you make any changes to the project in SCENE after you create the SCENE 2go data, you need
to recreate the data before transferring the project.
2. Select the Transfer SCENE 2go Data menu entry. The Transfer SCENE 2go Data window opens.
3. Click the [...] button to browse to the folder where you want to save the SCENE 2go data. Usually this
is a folder on a USB flash drive or other portable device. You can also transfer to a folder on your
computer and then burn that folder onto a DVD if the scan project is not too large. (Note that running
from a DVD is very slow.)
4. Select Copy all linked files if you want to put files referenced by links onto the USB flash drive, e.g.,
links in annotations (documentation objects). The files will open automatically when the user clicks on
the link in the annotation’s context menu or property page in the SCENE 2go viewer.
5. Click Transfer Data to start the data transfer. The SCENE 2go viewer files are transferred as well if
they're not already present in the destination folder.
When the transfer is complete, the Transfer Result window opens. There, you can see some information
about the transfer and can use the Open in SCENE 2go button to open the transferred project in the SCENE
2go viewer.

Overview Map
Scan Positions
All scan positions are shown by an icon. Its color varies and can either indicate the elevation of the
device that made the scan, or the time that the scan was made (You can set this in the Scan Colorization on
page 54 section of the settings). Below each icon, a label with the scan's name is shown. Because the width
of the label is limited, longer names are truncated. You can hover over the label to get a tooltip with the
complete name.
Scan groups
Depending on the resolution in which the Overview Map is shown, scan markers may be merged to groups
to keep the Overview Map uncluttered. Groups of scans are shown by a group icon. The color of the icon
depends on the height or age of the scans (from red to blue) in the group. If the “Individual” option is
selected in the Scan Colorization on page 54 settings, the average age and height of the included scans is
used.
The number in the icon shows the number of scans in the group.
When zoomed out, moving the mouse pointer over a group highlights the scan area if “Create Scan
Overlays” was enabled when the SCENE 2go data was created. See the SCENE user manual for more
information.
Clicking on the scan icon displays the radial menu with the following features
Scan colorization
In this mode, the scan points that the scan contributed to the Overview Map are colored. This feature is only
available if it was activated in the project data creation dialog in SCENE.
The color is either based on the recording date of the scan, or on its Z coordinate (“elevation”), and can be
changed in the Action Bar or in the Overview Map Settings.
View Menus
At the upper left side, the Data Filter Panel on page 45 button is displayed.
At the lower left side, the Action Bar on page 20 Toggle button is displayed.
Coordinate Picker
With the coordinate picker, you can mark an important point in the Overview Map and show its coordinates.
The coordinate picker is shown as an orange thumbtack.
(The Overview Map also shows the point that was picked in the Scan View, but a point picked in the
Overview Map is not visible in the Scan View.)
Click the point you want to pick in the Overview Map. If a point was picked before, the new point will
supersede it.
The point is marked with an orange thumbtack icon symbol. The thumbtack icon can be removed by
clicking the corresponding icon in the status bar.
In the status bar of the Overview Map, the position of the picked point is displayed. The Z coordinate
(elevation) of points picked in the Overview Map is always 0.
Click the copy button in the status bar to copy the coordinates to your computer's clipboard.
Task Panel
To perform a task, select it from the Task Panel. Each step of a task has a short description. The example
below shows function Measure Area in the Overview Map.
① Active step. You can only perform the currently activated step. To proceed to the next task step, click
the next step to activate it. To return to the previous step, click it.
③ Click Cancel to cancel this task. The task closes and the Task Panel is reactivated. All changes are
discarded.
Errors
If you try to finish a task without completing all mandatory steps, or some steps are invalid, you will be
informed. Complete all the steps and retry.
Only content that you added in the SCENE 2go viewer can be modified; all other content is read-only. If
you try to remove or edit read-only content, the selected object has a lock symbol. Additionally, a warning
informs you that those objects won't be processed in the task. If only write-protected objects are selected,
the warning becomes an error and the task cannot be completed without changing the selection.
Action Bar
The Action Bar Toggle button is found in the lower left corner of the Overview Map. Click the Action Bar
Toggle button ⑦ to open the Action Bar.
Click this button to open a menu that contains buttons for showing and hiding various kinds of objects.
② Zoom in
③ Zoom out
④ Show All button. Resets the view to show the entire Overview Map.
Click this button to see the available map layers. Scan point layers have a small scanner symbol in front
of them. Layout plan layers have a small floor layout symbol in front of them. Which layers are
available depends on the layer settings set in the project data creation dialog in SCENE.
Mini View
There might be times when you would like to see the Overview Map and one scan simultaneously. If so,
you can open a second, smaller window over the main window; the Mini View. The same function exists for
the Scan View. There, you can open the Overview Map in a smaller window.
Overview Map
The Overview Map can show the Scan View as a Mini View in the top left corner. The small Scan View is
handled in the same way as the full-screen Scan View; you can move and rotate the view, and
measurements and annotations are displayed and can be clicked. You can also click the 3D button to open
the 3D View.
The Scan View can be used, for example, to focus objects in the Overview Map, or to pick a coordinate
with the coordinate picker and view the position in both views.
The Mini View is opened by clicking the Scan View button in the Action Bar on page 20. Clicking the
button opens a Scan View as Mini View and opens the scan that is closest to the current center of the map.
If the Mini View is already open, it opens the scan closest to the current center of the map.
Scan View
The Scan View can show the Overview Map as a Mini View in the top left corner. The small Overview
Map is handled in the same way as the full-screen Overview Map; you can move the view, and
measurements and annotations are displayed and can be clicked.
The Overview Map is used to load other scans, or to focus objects in the Scan View.
The Mini View is opened by clicking the Overview Map button in the Action Bar.
• Swap View button swaps the views shown in the Mini View and the Main Window.
When navigating to a view other than the Scan View or Overview Map, the Mini View is closed
automatically.
Measure Distances
With this task, you can create point-to-point measurements. Note that the measurements cannot be saved,
and thus are lost when the SCENE 2go viewer is closed.
Point-to-point measurements compute and display the distances and angles between points you select. A
point-to-point measurement can consist of numerous points. The distance between each pair of points and
the overall distance of all points is computed.
Delete points:

NOTE: If you click the Scan View category of a project without previously opening a scan, the Panorama
View of the project’s central scan is shown.
Use the mouse to navigate in the view. For more detailed information see Navigating in the Views on
page 30.
Scan Positions
All scan positions are displayed with an icon. Below each icon, a label with the scan's name is shown.
Because the width of the label is limited, longer names are truncated, but you can hover over the icon to get
a tooltip with the complete name.
Compass
To ensure that the compass orientation is correct, the scan must be aligned correctly in SCENE before
transferring the project to SCENE 2go. The Y-axis is assumed to be “North” in the scan.
In the Scan View Settings page, you can set whether the compass should be displayed. The compass can
also be toggled on/off in the Scan View's Action Bar.
The 3D View shows individual scans in 3D, without any preprocessing. Depending on your hardware, the
3D View might not be available.
NOTE: If the 3D View is not available or does not work correctly, check to ensure that your graphics
card driver has the most current version.
Switch to the 3D View by clicking the 3D button which is found in the following places:
The figure above shows the same scan in the 3D View, with a default sky image as background. Note that
the 3D button in the top right corner is highlighted blue.
Virtual Joystick
On a touch-screen device you can use a virtual joystick to move forward and backward.
The virtual joystick is available on touch screens and enables forward and backward movements. The virtual
joystick can be activated with a long press anywhere in the Main Window as long as there is a certain
distance to the window borders. This means you can use the virtual joystick with your left or right hand.
To increase the zoom level with a touch screen, hold down two fingers inside the Main Window and then
spread them apart.
To decrease the zoom level with a touch screen, hold down two fingers inside the Main Window and then
pinch them together.
3D Navigation Modes
SCENE 2go provides four different navigation modes when viewing in 3D: Fly , Examine , Smart
, and Walk mode. In walk mode, the elevation of the camera does not change. This is for example useful
when exploring a certain story of a building.
See Select Button and Action Bar (3D Mode) on page 33 to learn how to set the navigation mode.
Predefined views
Click in the upper right corner to open the drop-down menu and select the option you want. You can
change the position and viewing direction to view the project from top, bottom, right, front or back.
NOTE: Double-click a scan point to fly to a location. WebShare will then zoom into the view and close to
the selected scan point.

This representation of intensity uses gray scale to show the differences in reflection, with the areas that
reflected more shown lighter than areas that reflected less. The amount of light reflected by an object varies
considerably depending on the type of material, color, and orientation to the scanner. This mode is often
useful when looking at areas of a scan that were too dark to photograph clearly.
NOTE: The color mode has no affect on Scan colorization on page 16.
Measure Distances
The measurement task functions as it does in the Overview Map. See Measure Distances on page 22 for
more information.
Note that you can switch between the 3D View and the Panorama View during the measurement using the
3D button in the top right corner or the radial menu of a scan.

Invalid Measurements
Invalid measurements occur when a picked measurement point does not correspond to an actual scan point.
Invalid measurement points are indicated by a red dot. Invalid measurement segments are indicated by a red
dashed line.
Multi-Scan measurements
Some measurements can't be made in a single scan. You might need to jump to a second scan, maybe even a
third scan, and continue with the measurement there. This is possible with the multi-scan measurement.
3. Start to pick the points that are accessible in the scan. To switch to another scan and continue the
measurement there, do one of the following:
• Click the scan icon and open the scan’s Panorama View.
• Click any scan icon, click the Overview Map icon, click another scan icon and open the scan’s
Panorama View.
Clicking the button associated with a measurement point in the task step will open the Panorama View of
the scan where the point was picked and focus the measurement in it.
To finish the measurement, continue with the next task steps, then click OK.
Results
The multi-scan measurement is shown in all scans which contributed at least one point to the measurement.
In a multi-scan measurement, the measurement points in the scans which are currently not opened are shown
larger and have an arrow attached to it.
Double-clicking on one of the measurement points will open the corresponding scan in the Panorama View
and focus the measurement in it.
NOTE: No points can be picked in the Overview Map itself since 3D points are required. The finished
measurement also won't be shown in the Overview Map.
Delete Measurements
With this task, you can delete measurements that you added in SCENE 2go.
NOTE: Measurements or other objects created in SCENE and transferred with the SCENE 2go app
cannot be deleted.
The Project Content page offers an overview of the scans, annotations, and measurements of a scan project.
To keep things clear even in large projects, several sorting and filtering methods are available.
① Sort By Name: Click the button to open a selection which shows the sortable column headers. Click the
small arrow icon to sort in ascending or descending order.
② Configure table: Click the button to open a selection which shows the available attributes.
④ Table header: Clicking one of the headers will sort the column's content in ascending or descending
order.
The search does not affect invisible columns. Thus it is possible to hide the tags column to ignore this
column during search.
The search complies to the currently active data filters. If only objects of category “ABC” are shown (see
Data Filter Panel on the previous page), it is not possible to find objects of category XYZ.
Scans
For scans, a preview image is displayed. Clicking on a scan's preview image will show a bigger preview.
• Click the Color Mode button to toggle between color and intensity image

Panorama Image
Resolution
Set the resolution of the scan images which are shown in the Panorama View. To select a resolution, click
the corresponding radio button. Note that a scan image in high resolution will need some time to open. If the
selected resolution is not available for a particular scan, the scan is displayed in a lower resolution.
Color Mode
l Color/Intensity:
Select whether the scan images are opened in color mode or in intensity mode. If the selected mode is
not available for a specific scan, the other one is used automatically.
The default setting is Automatic. This setting selects a value for the detail level according to the detected
device capabilities. The selected value is shown in the list below.
If you experience crashes or low frame rates when using the 3D View, you should reduce the detail level.
You can also try to increase the detail level if you have the impression that the detail level is too low.
If you select Use Gap Filling, the viewer will fill gaps between scan points that are physically close to one
another.
