Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics 4

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, learners should be able to:
1. Demonstrates understanding of the concepts of parallel, intersecting, and
perpendicular lines,
2. appreciate the importance of lines; and
3. draw a parallel, intersecting, and perpendicular lines using ruler and set
square.
II. Subject Matter
Title: Describing Parallel, Intersecting, and Perpendicular Lines.
References: Math 4 Quarter 3 Week 1 MELC-Based
Materials: power point, ruler, laptop

III. Procedure

Teacher’s Activity Learner’s Activity

A. Preliminary Activities

1. Greetings

Good morning, Class!

Good morning, teacher!

I am teacher Andrea, and I will be your

teacher today.

2. Prayer
Let us pray and feel the presence of the
lord.
In the name of the father, of the son, of
the holy spirit. Amen.

(students are praying)

3. Classroom Management
Before you take your seat class, kindly
pick those scattered pieces of plastic and
paper under your chair.
(Students will pick those scattered plastic and
paper under their chair.
You may now take your seat class. Thank you, teacher.

4. Checking of Attendance
Christopher who is absent today?
None, teacher!

Very good! everyone is present.

5. Unlocking of Difficulties
Direction: Match column A to column B
write the correct answer in your
notebook.
Column A
1.
2.
3.

Column B

 Intersecting line
 Perpendicular line
 Parallel line

B. Developmental Activities

1. Motivation

We will have an exercise called “Forming

Lines”.

Everyone, stand and follow me! Are you

guys ready?
Yes teacher!

(The teacher will let them form different

kinds of lines using their arms)

2. Presentation

Before we proceed to our lesson today,

we will watch a video about Parallel,
Perpendicular, and Intersecting lines.
(Playing the video)
(watch the video)

3. Discussion

Okay, did you guys understand the video?

Yes teacher
No, teacher

(Ask the students about the video

presentation)

Today, we are going to learn about

identifying parallel, intersecting, and
perpendicular lines.

There are different types of lines. We

have parallel lines, intersecting lines, and
perpendicular lines.

 Parallel lines- go in the same

direction that do not meet each
other.
Example: Pedestrian crossing,
railways track.

 Intersecting
each
other.
Example: Road intersection,
scissor

 Perpendicular lines- lines that

intersect and form a square corner.
Example: capital letter L,
basketball court.

Along the discussion, the teacher will ask

the students to give other examples of
lines that they can see inside and outside
of the school.

Did you guys understand the parallel, Yes teacher!

perpendicular, and intersecting lines?
4. Practice Exercise

Okay let us process with our challenge of

the day, I will show you pictures, and you
will tell me if it’s a parallel line or
perpendicular or intersecting lines
(expected answers)
Let’s begin!
Parallel line

1st picture Intersecting line

Perpendicular line
2nd picture
Perpendicular line
3rd picture
Intersecting Line
4th picture
5th picture

Very good class!

5. Generalization

Class did you understand our lesson? Yes teacher!

Are you sure? Yes teacher!

Let us sum up all the lessons today, what

are the different kinds of lines? Expected answer:
Parallel
Perpendicular
Intersecting

Very good! How do these lines different

(Student will answer)
from each other?
That is correct!

Very good class! It seems that you really

understand our lesson today.

6. Application

On the board random students will draw

the following using ruler.

7. Valuing
We study parallel, intersecting, and
perpendicular lines because they are the
building blocks of geometry.

These lines are not just abstract concepts;

they are all around us in the real world.
From the train tracks we see on our
commute to the shelves in our homes,
understanding these lines helps us
navigate and interact with our
surroundings. For instance, knowing that
parallel lines never meet helps us
understand why train tracks never merge,
while perpendicular lines help us ensure
shelves are properly aligned and stable.

Is that clear, class?

Yes teacher!

Very good class!

IV. Evaluation
A. Direction: Write the letter of the correct answer.

B. Draw the following using a ruler.

6. Parallel line.
7. Intersecting line.
8. Perpendicular line.

V. Assignment
Draw objects or cut and paste pictures in your notebook showing intersecting,
parallel, and perpendicular lines.
