1. ELICIT- 5 mins. [English] MATERIALS

1. Prayer • Smart TV
2. Greetings (Energizer)
3. Checking of attendance
4. Review of the past lesson: “WHAT AM I?”
Last meeting, we had our topic about Mangrove
Swamps, Tropical Rainforests and Coral reefs right?
So before we jump into the continuation of our lesson,
let’s have first a short review. Identify whether the
phrases are MANGROVE SWAMPS, TROPICAL
RAINFORESTS or CORAL REEFS. Just raise your
right hand if you want to answer.

A) Is a hot, moist biome where it rains all year long.

It is known for its dense canopies of vegetation
that form three different layers and a high
amount of rainfall and are often called the “lungs
of the planet” because they generally draw in
carbon dioxide and breathe out oxygen. WHAT
AM I?
Answer: Tropical Rainforests

B) Are coastal wetlands found in tropical and

subtropical regions. They are characterized by
halophytic (salt loving) trees, shrubs and other
plants growing in brackish to saline tidal waters.
WHAT AM I?
Answer: Mangrove Swamps

C) A structure in shallow ocean areas that is

formed mainly by stonelike coral skeletons. It
protects coastlines from storms and erosion,
provide jobs for local communities, and offer
opportunities for recreation. They are also are a
source of food and new medicines. WHAT AM
I?
Answer: Coral Reefs
2. ENGAGE- 10 mins. [English, EPP] MATERIALS
Activity: “Draw me a GIF”
1. The teacher will host the game “Draw me a GIF”. The • Certificates
teacher will introduce and explain the mechanics of
the. The game was called “Draw me a GIF” rather than
“Draw me a Picture” because the students are allowed
to move (but still in place) as they portray what the
teacher asks them to do. The students that will be
chosen as the 3 best portrayer during the 3 rounds of
the game will receive their certificates and will be
commended for a good job.

•Draw me a GIF that:

- You are in the ocean •Smart TV and
- You are a tiger in the forest Laptop (Video
- You are a fish enjoy swimming Presentation)

Visual Integration: “Take a Look and Reflect”

2. After the game, the teacher will now present a video to
the class entitled “ ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS
IN THE PHILIPPINES” and solicit answers aftermath
from the following questions:
a) What can you observe on the video
being presented?
b) Do the people in the video are taking
care and being concerned about our
environment?
c) If you are one of the person in the
video, will you do the same?

rainforests, coral reefs, and mangrove swamps?
2. Visual presentations (images, diagrams & PPT) will be
presented to the class showing the beneficial effects of
protecting and conserving rainforests, coral reefs and
mangrove swamps.
3. During the discussion of the topic, relevant questions
will be raise by the teacher to the students:
a) What do you think are the ways we can do to
protect and conserve rainforests, coral reefs
and mangrove swamps?
b) Why is it important to take care of these
environments?

Lesson Proper:

The Ecosystem is an environment where both living and non-

living things exist and interact with one another. Example of
ecosystem is the tropical rainforests, coral reefs, and
mangrove swamps. You have learned last meeting that a
tropical rainforest is simply an area where tall, mostly
evergreen trees grow and with high amount of rainfall right?
Also, about coral reefs that they serve as habitat for many
animals. They are a breeding ground of marine life. It is
composed of non-living components such as water and sand
and living components such as fish, crustaceans, mollusks,
cnidarians, sponges and echinoderms. Another is the
Mangrove swamp ecosystem is composed mostly of
mangrove plants and animals like crustaceans and migratory
birds. It is an important system that allows for the breeding of
fishes and survival of other marine animals. It is also a part of
the coastal and marine ecosystems.

Today, tropical rain forests, coral reefs and mangrove

swamps are disappearing from the face of the globe. Why do
you think so children? Despite growing international concern,
these are continuing to be destroyed. These destructions
have a global impact through species extinction, the loss of
important ecosystem services and resources. However, these
destructions can be slowed, stopped and in some cases even
reversed.

We need to protect and conserve the Earth’s resources. We

need to give high value to our tropical rain forests, coral reefs
and mangrove. What do you think are the ways we can do to
protect and conserve rainforests, coral reefs and mangrove
swamps?
Here are some ways to protect and conserve it.
1. Habitat restoration - Habitat restoration seeks to
repair areas that have been subjected to habitat
destruction. Habitat destruction is one of the primary
factors involved in causing species of plants and
animals to be threatened with extinction.
2. Reforestation or replanting a forest - Reforestation
is the process of regenerating or replanting forest
areas that have been destroyed or damaged for the
benefits of mankind.
3. Mangrove Rehabilitation - Mangrove restoration is
the regeneration of mangrove forest ecosystems in
areas where they have previously existed.
4. Wildlife conservation which include protecting a
sanctuary where animals live.
5. Supporting projects of the government and non-
government organization that protect tropical
rainforest, coral reefs and mangrove swamps.
•Biodiversity Management Bureau
• Conservation International Philippines
•Sea-Bird Scientific
6. Joining organizations that conduct educational
campaigns and give information on how to protect
and conserve it.

Being responsible to the development and restoration of

Earth’s resources like the tropical rain forests, mangrove
swamps and coral reefs are key for the long-term benefits to
mankind. Why is it important to take care of these
environments?
• Mangroves protect shorelines from damaging storm and
hurricane winds, waves, and floods. Mangroves also help
prevent erosion by stabilizing sediments with their tangled
root systems. They maintain water quality and clarity, filtering
pollutants and trapping sediments originating from land.
• Coral reefs provide an important ecosystem for life
underwater, protect coastal areas by reducing the power of
waves hitting the coast, and provide a crucial source of
income for millions of people.
• Rainforests are natural air filters. They store and filter
excess carbon and other pollutants from the atmosphere and
release oxygen through photosynthesis. Without rainforests,
our planet is unable to mitigate excess greenhouse gas
emissions, which destabilizes the Earth's climate.

Fun Fact of the Day:

“Solar Panels help protect our Environment! “

•Are you familiar of a “solar panel/energy”? Solar energy uses

light from the sun to create a renewable source of electricity.
Renewable energy is replenished naturally and can be used
constantly without running out. Sunlight is abundant, and 5
minutes of shining beams can supply the entire United States’
electricity demand for 30 days. So how do these solar panels
help our environment?

1) Purify our air

2) Conserve our water
3) Lower Carbon emissions
4) Help solve climate change
5) Protect our land
6) Protect finite sources

5. ELABORATE-5 mins. [English, Filipino, AP, Math, EPP] MATERIALS
