BY-LAWS

OF

DAGUITAB the Official Student Publication of Daguit National High School

Article 1: Name of Organization

Section 1: This Organization will be recognized as the Official School Publication of Daguit National
High School and therefore will be called as DAGUITAB.

Section 2: This organization will be located in Daguit National High School, Daguit, Labo, Camarines
Norte.

Article 2: Mission and Objective

Section 1: The Mission and Objective of the School Publication are as follows:

a.) Pursuant to Republic Act 7079 or also known as the Campus Journalism Act of 1991;
Campus Journalism upholds and protect the freedom of the press even at the campus
level and promote the development and growth of campus journalism as a means of
strengthening ethical values, encouraging critical and creative thinking, and
developing moral character and personal discipline of the Filipino youth.
b.) To showcase the ability of the student of Daguit National High School in writing and
informing their co – students of the whereabouts in their school, local, and even in
the national level.
c.) To promote and enhance student’s journalistic skills.
d.) To publish campus newspaper with viable, truthful, and interesting contents that
will be beneficial to the school’s stakeholders and staffs.
e.) To launch programs and projects that will help the school and its students in
igniting their journalistic skills.

Article 3: Members

Section 1: Any bona fide students who are enrolled for the current school year and paid the
contribution fee worth NINETY PESOS (P90.00) are considered members of this
organization.

Article 4: Regimes and Election of the School Publication Editorial Board

Section 1: The Publication Adviser shall be appointed by the school administration. The
Adviser should be a language teacher and shall not be an adviser of any school
organization.

Section 2: The Editorial Board shall be composed of the qualified students who undergone
pen and paper examination and interview, and who do not have failing grades in all subject
for the current school year. In Addition, the member of the Editorial Board that possesses
inactivity shall be suspended or terminated after a due process.

Article 5: Meetings and Assembly

Section 1: The organization will conduct monthly meetings to keep an update about the
tasks assigned.

Section 2: Emergency Meetings will also be conducted if necessary.

Article 6: Rules and Regulations during Meetings

Section 1: The following are the things to be considered during the Meetings:

a) The meeting shall not start unless the quorum was met.
b) Review and clarification of the minutes of the previous meeting.
c) Make sure that all the agendas are presented as well as tackled.
d) Topics that are not further converse in the previous meeting shall be
discussed by the board.
e) Those who did not participate and attend the meeting should agree on what
the majority talk about and should not have any appeal.
f) The board shall display camaraderie, discipline, and respect in one another.

Article 7: Roles, Duties, and Responsibilities

Section 1: Roles and Responsibilities of the member of the Editorial Board

a.) Editor – in – Chief


 Gives decision whether a submitted manuscript will be published.
 Ensuring that content is journalistically objective.
 Evaluating and editing content.
 Fact checking, spelling, grammar, writing style, page design and
photos.
 Ensuring the final draft is complete.
 Motivating and developing editorial staff.

b.) Associate Editor


 Supports writers and editors with a variety of writing, editing, planning,
fact checking and research tasks.
 Write print articles or file broadcast pieces and help senior editors in
their responsibilities.
 Handle the duties of higher ranked editors.
 Planning editorial calendars, assigning stories and managing and
evaluating other editors, reporters and writers.

c.) Managing Editor


 Supervises the day-to-day operations of the publication and reports to
the editor-in-chief.
 May write a column or editorial sometimes and is more likely to edit
articles.
 Suggest ideas, assign articles, handle problems, keep the staff on
schedule and answer questions from department editor.
 Make sure the publication report on topics of interest to its readers.

d.) News/ Literary/ Feature/ Sports Editor


 Have the responsibility to decide which news/ literary/ feature/
sports stories are printed in the paper.
 Assign reporters to cover the news.
 Check for accuracy and fairness in the newspaper’s articles.

e.) Copy Reader and Headline Writer


 Ensure that written text is concise, consistent, and both grammatically and
factually correct.
 He/ She is responsible in writing headlines.
f.) Photojournalist
 Visual story teller; photographing, editing, and presenting images and tell a
story in a way that no other media can.
g.) Lay – out Artist
 Communicate information visually by assembling components to create a
visual design.
 Collects and assembles type styles and images such as illustration,
photographs, drawings, and articles to create a visual design in a computer
or in paper.
h.) Editorial Cartoonist
 Draws editorial cartoons that contain some level of political or social
commentary.
i.) Contributors
 Also known as the Junior Reporters and the content provider.
 Can also be students who are not fully committed to the organization but
wanted to share their skills in writing/journalism by passing their write-ups
such as literary.

Article 8: Term of Office


Section 1: The appointed Editorial Board should serve the school and the School Publication in one
whole Academic Year.

Section 2: The repetition of term is allowed providing that he/she has still the ability to perform
his/ her duties.

Article 9: Funding of the Student Publication

Section 1: Pursuant to DepEd Order no. 20 series 2006 and DepEd Order no. 50 series 2001 the
collection of fees shall be voluntary and set by the Public Elementary and Secondary Schools and it
shall not be used as a coercive measure such as a requirement for admission or taking of periodical
exams. Therefore, DAGUITAB collects NINETY PESOS (P90.00) to all students for the whole school
year.

Section 2: The club can also conduct fund raising programs.
