Ans: While the male children are considered as an asset to the family, the female
children are considered as a burden to the parents.
This stereotype affects the life of a daughter in the following ways:
1: Many girls are not even allowed to go to schools.
2: Those who get a chance to study may not / cannot concentrate on their
studies as they are being discouraged.
3: They are deprived of their parents' attention
even when they fall sick.
4: Since their childhood to their marriage, they are considered as a temporary
member of the family.
5: Even after marriage, they are subject to exploitation.

3q.What does the constitution say with regard to equality? Why do you think it
is important for all people to be equal?
Ans: With regard to equality, constitution said that:
1: Untouchability is seen as a crime and has been legally abolished by law.
2: People are free to choose to kind of work they wish to do.
3: Government jobs are open to all people in addition; the constitution also placed
responsibility on the government to take specific steps to realize this right of
equality for poor and other such marginal communities.
It is important for all the people to be equal. so that, they can follow
their religion, speak their language, celebrate their festivals and express
themselves freely.

4q. What is Prejudice? Give an example.


Ans: 1: Prejudice means to judge other people negatively or see them as inferior.
2: When our opinions about certain people are always negative-- seeing them as
stingy , lazy etc.
3. These become prejudices that we carry about them.
5q.How do we make a Stereotype? How do stereotypes effect us?
Ans. 1. When we fix people into one image we create a Stereotype.
2. Stereotypes stop us from looking at each person
as a unique individual with his or her own special qualities and skills that are
different from other skills that are different from other.
3. Stereotypes affect all of us as they prevent us from doing certain things, that
we might otherwise be good at.
6q. How does Prejudice lead to inequality and discrimination?
a.1. Discrimination happens when people act on their prejudices or
stereotypes.
2. If you do something to put other people down, like---
Preventing them from taking water from the same well or hand pump, or not
allow them to drink tea in the same cups or glasses as others, you are discriminating
them.
3. Groups of people who may speak a certain language, follow a particular
religion, live in specific regions etc, may be discriminated against as their customs
or practices may be seen asinferior.
4. People who are poor, do not have the resources or the money to meet their basic
needs of food, clothing and shelter, they experience discrimination in offices, in
hospitals, schools etc.
7q. How does discrimination takes place even on the grounds of Caste and
class?
a. Activities like cleaning, washing, cutting hair, picking garbage are seen as
tasks that are of less value and people who do this work are seen as dirty or
impure. This belief is an important aspect of the caste system.
b. In the caste system, communities/ groups of people were placed in a sort of
ladder where each caste was either above or below the other.
c. Those who placed themselves at the top of this ladder called themselves
upper caste and saw themselves as superior.
d. The groups who were placed at the bottom of
the ladder were seen as unworthy and called 'Untouchables'
5. Their children could not sit next to children of other castes in school.
8q. How have Indians strived for Equality? Give examples.
a. The struggle for freedom from British rule also included within it the struggle
of large groups of people who not only fought against the British but also fought
to be treated more equally.
b. Dalits, women, Tribal and peasants fought against inequalities they
experienced in their lives.
c. Many Dalit’s organized themselves to gain entry into temples.
d. Women demanded that they should have as much as a right to education
as men did.
e. Peasants and tribal fought to release themselves from the grasp of the
moneylender and the high interest they were charged.
