Sewage sludge treatment steps and their purpose, and diagrammatic depiction of the path of
MPs into human organs through human activities.
Conclusiones
•Is literature review showed that MPs and other pollutants interact in the water treatment process, and changes in the properties of MPs can increase their toxicity. SS MPs pose a potential toxicological
hazard to both humans and animals because they can contain toxic additives, adsorb and concentrate environmental pollutants and the organisms that consume them.
•Initiatives to reduce MP emissions to the environment, regulation of the use of SS as fertilizer, and further research to better understand the toxicological effects of MP are needed to mitigate potential
negative health effects. To reduce their associated toxicological hazards, waste management practices such as recycling and reduction of single-use plastics should be adopted, and the use of SS as
fertilizer should be regulated to minimize human and animal exposure to MPs and related pollutants.
• Future research should focus on the identification of pollutants absorbed by MPs in the field and conduct experimental studies to evaluate the toxicological effects of MPs containing other
pollutants. Referencias Bibliográficas
