3. Objective of the course
1.To measure and obtain equivalent circuit of electrical machines
2. To perform no load and full load tests on transformers, induction motor and synchronous machine.
3. To be able to measure speed versus torque characteristics of induction motor
4. To show characteristics curve of dc machine and synchronous machine.
4. Course Description
This course includes the overview Magnetization curve & Hysteresis loop, Single phase transformer Test, three
phase transformer test, Characteristics of separately excited dc generator, Characteristics& Voltage Build up
process of a Shunt Generator, Starting methods of Induction motor , Testing of three Phase Induction motor,
Speed control of Induction motor and synchronous machine test

1. Explain and Understand Magnetization curve & Hysteresis loop
2. Understand and carry out Single phase and three phase transformer Test
3. Know and perform different Starting methods of Induction motor
4. Understand and carry out Testing and Speed control of three Phase Induction motor
5. Understand and carry out testing of dc machine and synchronous machine

5.1.1 Know about Hysteresis loop and properties of Permanent magnet,
5.1.2 Gain insight on parallel operation of Single phase transformer

9. Course policies
All students are expected to abide by the code of conduct of students throughout this course.
 Academic dishonesty, including cheating, fabrication, and plagiarism will not be
tolerated.
You are required to submit and present lab reports and projects according to the time
table indicated.

Course Policies 100% attendance is mandatory! Students should be on time for lab session. Students
are not allowed you enter if they are late more than five minutes.
Active participation in class is essential and it will have its own value in your grade
Cell phones MUST be turned off before entering the class

10. Due date:


All assignments must be turned in the class on the due date for full credit. No assignment will be accepted after
class on the due date.
11. Class room Behavior:
Anything that disturbs your instructor or your colleagues during the class period is considered as a troublesome
behavior. Examples include: Using mobiles, PDA, making offensive remarks, sleeping, working on assignments
related to other courses, etc. Troublesome behaviors are completely prohibited.
