1. The document discusses different types of projections used to represent 3D forms on a 2D plane, including central, parallel, and orthographic projections. 2. It describes the key elements of projection as the projection center, projection lines, and projection plane. Parallel projection methods include orthographic and oblique projections. 3. Common projection diagrams used in engineering are discussed, such as perspective projections, axonometric projections, three-view drawings, and elevations. The formation of the three-view projection system is also summarized, involving single-sided, two-sided, and three-sided projections using perpendicular horizontal, upright, and lateral projection planes.

1. Concept of projection

Representing spatial forms on a plane is based on

projection methods.
Projection methods originate from the physical
phenomenon of light projecting shadows in daily
life.
For example, when a table in a room is illuminated
by a lamp, there will be a shadow on the floor; If the
table is moved under sunlight, there will be a
shadow on the ground.

1. Concept of projection

1、Projection method
Three elements for projection:
①Projection center and projection line
②Projection plane (not passing through the projection
center)
③Object
Projection——The sum of the intersection points between
the projection line and the projection surface of an object.
Projection method——Methods to obtain projections.

II. Types of projections
1.Central projection method
When Distance from Projection center S to
the plane P is finite, all projection lines are from
a single point (similar to viewing an object with
the human eye or illuminating an object with a
lamp), this projection method is called Central
projection method.
Reflecting the three-dimensional spatial form of
the object, but can’t be measured. This type of
diagram is commonly referred to as perspective
view.
II. Types of projections
2.Parallel projection method
When Distance from Projection center S to the plane P being infinitely
far away, all projection lines become parallel to each other (like
sunlight), and this projection method is called parallel projection.

The projection lines perpendicular to the projection plane is

an orthographic projection.
The projection lines inclined to the projection plane is called
oblique projection.
