INTERVIEW WITH MY

GUARDIAN, WILMA MUTYA

Interviewer: So… ipa ila-ila sa una imong kaugalingon pati na ang imohang
kapikas sa kinabuhi.
Interviewer: So first, kindly introduce yourself and your partner in life.

Mrs. Wilma: Ako si Wilma Mutya, nagpuyo diri sa Bangkal, Matanao, Davao del
Sur. Akong edad sixty, akong anak lima, ang nagpuyo sa akoa nga apo nako, isa
lang, si Jay An.
Mrs. Wilma: I am Wilma Mutya, living here in Bangkal, Matanao, Davao Del Sur. I
am 60 years old, and I have five children. Currently, I have my grandchild who’s
living with me, Jay An.

Interview: So, naa koy pulo ka questions sa imoha mmy (mommy). So… ang first
question is, how did you meet each other or gi-unsa ninyo pagkita sa usa’t usa, gi
unsa ninyo pagka-ila?
Interviewer: So, I have ten questions for you. So, the first question is, how did
you meet each other or how did you encounter each other? How did you introduce
yourselves?

Mrs. Wilma: Ayyy! Simple… nagkita, nag ila-ila, pagkahuman nanligaw, gisugot,
ug nagtaban.
Mrs. Wilma: Oh! We simply met, got to know each other, courted, agreed, and
eventually got into a relationship.

Interviewer: Grabeha oy! So second is, who fell first or kinsay naibog ug una?
Interviewer: It was intense! So, second is, who fell first?

Mrs. Wilma: Siya.

Mrs. Wilma: Him.

Interviewer: Huh?
Interviewer: Huh?

Mrs. Wilma: Siya.

Mrs. Wilma: Him.

Interviewer: Siya?
Interviewer: Him?

Mrs. Wilma: Laughing

Interviewer: *Giggled* ika-tulo, ika-tulo, who fell harder? Kanang kinsa ang mas

Interviewer: *Giggled* Third, third. Who fell harder? Who was more affected by
the time pass by?

Mrs. Wilma: Siya rin Laugh

Mrs. Wilma: Him too/Also him. *Laugh*

Interviewer: Kahangin! Laugh

Interviewer: Airhead! *Laugh*

Interviewer: Ika-upat, as far as you remember. What is your biggest conflict?

Kanang, sa imohang nahinumduman ba kay unsa ang inyohang pinaka-dakong

Interviewer: Fourth, as far as you remember, what is your biggest conflict? What
is the biggest fight you’ve faced?

Mrs. Wilma: Minsan lang.

Mrs. Wilma: Only once.

Interviewer: Unsa man?

Interviewer: What is it?

Mrs. Wilma: Katong two thousand twenty-fou—2014.

Mrs. Wilma: That one in two thousand twenty-fou—2014.

Interviewer: Kuan man… kanang… ika-lima, ika-lima ta. Gi-unsa nimo pagka
realize nga si daddy na gyud ang the one for you?
Interviewer: You know… like… on the fift, let’s proceed to fifth. How did realize
that Daddy really is the one for you?

Mrs. Wilma: Syempre, mao may gika-ipon.

Mrs. Wilma: Of course, he’s the one I choose to be with.

Interviewer: Like, gi-unsa gani nimo pagka realize, unsay nagpa realize nimo
ba?
Interviewer: Like how did you realize, what made you realize?

Mrs. Wilma: Kuan… syempre kung naa na kay kaagi, syempre adapon nimo kung

Mrs. Wilma: Well… of course, if you have experiences already, you’ll naturally
adopt what’s good about them, just like that.

Interviewer: Yeii, sana all!

to eachother or karon akoa sa kang pangutan-on, kanang, unsa imohang unang
impresyon sa iyaha? Kanang, pagkita nimo sa iyaha, unsa imong una nga naingon
tungkol sa iyaha?
Interviewer: So… let’s go to the sixth, the sixth. So, what are your first
impressions of each other or now I will ask you, what are your first impressions of
him? When you first saw him, what’s the first thing that came to your mind about
him?

Mrs. Wilma: Akoa lang sa iyaha kay buotan.

Mrs. Wilma: For me, he’s kind.

Interviewer: Unang tan-aw pa lang “kabuotan ani oyy,” ana?

Interviewer: From the first glance, “this one is really kind,” like that?

Mrs. Wilma: Ohhh… (oo)

Mrs. Wilma: Yesss!

Interviewer: Woyyy!... sana all! Kanus-a man?

Interviewer: Woyyy… hope all! When??

Mrs. Wilma: Giggled

Mrs. Wilma: *Giggled*

Interviewer: Ika-pito, ika-pito ta, seven. Do you think having him by your side is
the reason why you’re happy right now? Kanang, sa imong paglantaw, kanang
karon nga kauban nimo siya, siya ba ang dahilan nganong malipayon ka?
Interviewer: Seventh, let’s go to the seventh, seven. Do you think having him by
your side is the reason why you’re happy right now? From your perspective, now
that you’re with him, is he the reason why you’re happy?

Mrs. Wilma: Yes! Syempre.

Mrs. Wilma: Yes! Of course.

Interviewer: Number eight is, are you willing to sacrifice everything just to be
with him, ka- kaya ba nimo isakpripisyo ang tanan maka uban lang siya?
Interviewer: Number eight is, are you willing to sacrifice everything just to be
with him? Are you capable of sacrificing everything just to be with him?

Mrs. Wilma: Syempre, natural lang gyud na.

Mrs. Wilma: Of course, it’s only natural.

Interviewer: Yeii… ngano man? Ngano man?

Interviewer: Yeii… why? What’s the reason?

Mrs. Wilma: Syrempre, love.

Mrs. Wilma: Of course, love.
Interviewer: So, ika siyam. What if someday you too… you two will meet on
another life, will you still choose each other as a soulmates or a lovers? Like,
what if someday. Diba? Dili man gyud ta mag dugay aning kalibutana, mamatay
ta. So what if nay second life, ika-duhang kinabuhi unya pillion pa ba nimo nga
siya gihapon imong maka-uban?
Interviewer: So, number nine, what if someday you too… you two will meet in
another life? Will you still choose each other as soulmates or lovers? Like, what if
someday, we knows that we will never be part of this world forever, right? We die.
So, what if there’s a second life? In the second life, would you still choose to be
with him?

Mrs. Wilma: Syempre, siya rin.

Mrs. Wilma: Naturally, it’s still him.

Interviewer: Ngano man?

Interviewer: Why though?

Mrs. Wilma: Love man.

Mrs. Wilma: Because of love.

Interviewer: Ngano man? Paghatag ug laing rason, ayaw ng love man. Ngano?

Interview: Why though? Give another reason, don’t just say, “because of love.”
Why?

Mrs. Wilma: Syempre, buotan man, unsay iyang kuan nimo… unsay imong gusto
iyang uyunan, ana aba.
Mrs. Wilma: Well, because he’s kind, whatever he wants… whatever you want, he
will support you, like that.

Interviewer: So karon, akong ulahi nga pangutana. Unsa, what is your message
for him or unsa imong mensahe nga gusto iingon sa iyaha?
Interviewer: So now, my last question. What is your message for him or what
message do you want to convey to him?

Mrs. Wilma: Syempre, love gud taka; syempre bisag magkina-unsa… mao ra
gihapon hangtod sa laing kalibutan. Love one another.
Mrs. Wilma: Of course, I love you; of course no matter what… it will always be the
same even in another universe. Love one another.
