Patient Report Direct View

This document contains the results of a RT-PCR test performed on a nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal sample collected from Mr. Vishal, a 22-year old male, to test for COVID-19. The test results for the E gene, N gene, ORF1a/ORF1b/N/N2 genes were all negative, indicating the absence of SARS-CoV-2 RNA and no COVID-19 infection. The report notes that a single negative test does not rule out infection and recommends repeat sampling and testing if symptoms persist or worsen.

E Gene / N Gene Negative
ORF1a/ORF1b/N/N2 Gene Negative
Final Result Negative
INTERPRETATION
RESULT COMMENT
E gene Negative Absence of B Beta CoV RNA indicate no infection with lineage B-betacoronavirus
Both E gene AND Orf1A/RDRP gene Negative Absence of B-Beta CoV RNA and SARS-CoV RNA indicate no infection with lineage B-
betacoronavirus
E gene Positive AND Orf1A/RDRP gene Presence of B Beta-CoV RNA indicates infection with lineage betacoronavirus virus
Negative BUT absence of COVID-19
Both E gene AND Orf1A/RDRP gene Positive Presence of B Beta-CoV RNA and SARS-CoV RNA indicate infection with COVID-19
E gene Negative but Orf1A/RDRP gene Positive Inconclusive, As per guidelines a repeat sample is recommended.
A Single negative test result, particularly if this is from an upper respiratory tract specimen, does not exclude infection. False Negative results may be
seen in samples collected too early or late in the clinical course of the infection. Close monitoring of symptoms and retesting may be considered, as per
clinical evaluation. The repeat specimen may be considered after a gap of 2-4 days after the collection of the first specimen for additional testing, if
required.
TEST ATTRIBUTES AND LIMITATION
1. Samples must be received at the laboratory under appropriate conditions within 48 hours of collection to ensure preservation of viral RNA.
2. Negative result does not rule out the possibility of COVID-19 infection. Presence of inhibitors, mutations and insufficient organisms RNA can influence
the result. False Negative result may be seen in samples collected too early ore too late in the clinical course of the infection. Kindly refer to the
latest ICMR guidelines.
3. A single negative test result, particularly if this is from an upper respiratory tract specimen does not exclude infection. A positive alternate pathogen
does not necessarily rule out COVID-19 infection, as little is yet known about the role of co-infections.
4. Repeat sampling and testing of lower respiratory specimen is strongly recommended in severe or progressive disease. The repeat specimen may be
considered after a gap of 2-4 days after the collection of the first specimen for additional testing if required.
Test is done on: Real Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR).
ICMR Registration No GDICPLD.
