Cerebral Circulation

The cerebral circulation involves blood flowing from the heart to the brain through arteries and returning to the heart through veins. The internal carotid and vertebral arteries are the main arteries that supply blood to the brain. These arteries branch into smaller arteries called arterioles that penetrate deep into the brain and form an extensive network of capillaries to deliver oxygen and nutrients throughout the brain tissue. Deoxygenated blood then drains from the capillaries into veins and larger venous sinuses that eventually empty into the internal jugular veins, which return blood from the brain back to the heart.
