Cause and Effect XII
A cause is an event or action that causes something else to happen. An effect is an event or
action that happened as a result of another event or action. The following are the differences
Cause : we can identify the cause with “because” it answers question “why”
Cause and effect is a relationship between events or things, where one is the result of the other or
others. This is a combination of action and reaction. The following are examples of cause and
effect relationship with causal conjunctions.
1. Because the alarm was not set, I was late to woke you up
2. The flowers died because I didn’t water them for three days
3. Since the meeting was cancelled, we went lunch together
4. It was raining, so we stayed at home
Writers often need to show a cause and effect relationship or connection in academic texts. They
do this in several different ways. Writers use noun, verbs, and verb phrases as cause and effect
markers within sentences. They may also use connectors to show cause and effect relationships
between clauses and sentences. It is important to recognize and understand language that signals
of cause and effect can improve our comprehension of academic texts.
