Jesus was fully human and fully divine. As a human, he was born of Mary in Bethlehem, lived as a Jewish peasant, experienced hunger, thirst, fatigue, and death. However, he was without sin. As the divine Son of God, he possessed attributes like omnipotence, omniscience and had the right to forgive sins. His mission was to obey God and spread his teachings, focusing on love, compassion and bringing people to God.

HUMANITY

Human being/Person

Embodied spirit
- The human person is composed of the Body and Soul
- St. Thomas of Aquinas. “Nothing without the other”
Body
- It is a tangible thing that helps us to be able to communicate and relate with
other human beings
- A body without a soul is considered as a corpse or cadaver
Soul
- It animates the body making it the life-giving principle
- A soul without a human body is no longer a human person

HUMANITY – the quality or state of being human.

Jesus is a religious leader whose life and teachings are recorded in the Bible’s New Testament.
He is a central figure in Christianity and is emulated as the incarnation of God by many
Christians all over the world.

Bethlehem was Jesus’ place of birth. He was born in 6BC. Jew/Judaism was his religion. He was
living in Nazareth.

Jesus was a Jewish peasant, which tells us about his social class. He was a wisdom teacher and
social prophet. Jesus was a healer, he was a Jewish mystic.

The family of Jesus Christ

Mary
- Mary was a first-century Jewish woman of Nazareth
- Has been venerated since early Christianity, and is considered by millions to be
the holiest and greatest saint because of her extraordinary virtues
Joseph
- A first-century Jewish man of Nazareth
- Joseph is regarded as the patron saint and the protector of the catholic church.
- The first appearance of Joseph is in the gospels of Matthew and Luke, which
contain a genealogy of Jesus showing ancestry from King David.

BIRTH OF JESUS CHRIST

The birth of Jesus shows that he was fully human. (Luke 2:7)
Before Jesus was born, the angel Gabriel told Joseph that Mary was going to bear a son to be
named Jesus Christ. (Matthew 1:21-23)

Teaching on the first visitors of the Infant Jesus

St. Luke’s reports states that the shepherds are the first visitor of Jesus since they were
nearby working.

St. Matthew protests that the Magi were the wise men who first see “The One” which is the
infant Jesus.

St. Luke’s report

- Just nearby walking
- Called by an angel with a message
- Guided by the angels
- Poor/simple folks of the land
- Without gifts but received the gift of the child’s presence
St. Matthew’s report
- From the east
- Studied the stars and asked for the prophecy
- Guided by the star
- Rich
- With gifts
The visitation of the magis are celebrated 12 days after the Christmas due to the belief that mark
the amount of time it took after the birth of Jesus for the magis to travel to Bethlehem for the
epiphany when they recognized him as the son of god.

Epiphany means the manifestation of Christ

The Magis and their gifts to the Infant Jesus: Three kings or Three Wise Men

of Arabia. Melchior presented the Gold brought to Jesus.
Balthazar

Tarsus/Macedonia of Egypt. Balthazar presented the gift of Myrrh that was
brought to Jesus.

and man.

- It is considered as such for its great value due to its unchanging character.
Myrrh
- It is an expensive bitter substance used for embalming.

salvation of all, while the art of embalming is only given to important people.

Jesus was a human child

When he was eight days old, circumcised and brought to the temple dedication. (Luke 2:21-22)

Circumcision is the sign of his incorporation into Abraham’s descendants into the people of the
covenant. It is the sign of his submission the law and his deputation to Israel’s worship

Although his conception was supernatural, his birth was normal, fully human child. Apostle Pail
wrote:
“But when the time had fully come, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under law.”
(Galatians 4:4)

Jesus showed all the traits of a human being except the sin

Jesus was tempted: Matthew 4:1

Jesus experienced hunger: Jesus exhibits the human traits of hunger, a long period without food.
(Matthew 4:2)
Jesus experienced Thirst: Jesus experienced thirst while suffering on the cross.(John 19:28)

all the time. (Matthew 8:24)

Jesus showed Human Emotions: Jesus also expressed human emotions such as tears, love,
compassion, disappointment, and anger.

Mission- It is the vocation or calling of a religious organization, especially a Christian one, to go

out into the world and spread its faith.
-It is a specific task with which a person or a group is charged (Merriam-Webster).
-It is a calling or vocation.

The Mission of Jesus Christ

- Jesus Christ is the greatest being to be born on this earth—our perfect example.
- Jesus honors the authority of His Father through complete obedience.
- Even His coming to earth was an act of obedience to His Father.
- His life and ministry focused on the will of the Father:
“That the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father gave Me
commandment, even so I do” (John 14:31).
- Jesus came to obey the Father – and that obedience took Him all the way to the
cross.
- His obedience offers us hope, peace, joy, and everlasting life.

The four missions of Jesus Christ

Son of God
- Son means a male descendant. Jesus is the firstborn of God the Father. His
mother, Mary, carried Him before He was born and raised Him while He was
on earth.
- His mission was decided before the world was created.
Being close to Mary makes us faithful to God’s will. After the ascension of her Son, Virgin Mary
aided the beginnings of the church with her prayers.

Ad Jesum Per Mariam

Teacher
- Jesus was the greatest teacher to ever live, and He still teaches us today. At age
12, Jesus was found teaching doctors/teachers in the temple (Luke 2:46).
- Jesus is a good teacher by giving the human an experience of suffering as a
medicine to educate us on the importance of our life and learning our own
mistakes.
- It is by faith in Jesus and obedience to His teachings that we may live with God
again.
Savior
- The Old English name for Jesus is Joshua, meaning “Savior.” Jesus fulfilled
His role as Savior through His willing sacrifice and Resurrection.
- Six months after John the Baptist begins preaching, Jesus, who is now 30/31
years old, comes to him at the Jordan River. John understands that the baptism
he is performing is for those repenting of their sins.
- Jesus lived a perfect life – a life without sin.
- Jesus is not being baptized in symbol of repentance for sins. His baptism shows
that He is presenting Himself to do the will of His Father.
