Report

The report provides the results of a geotechnical investigation conducted for the proposed construction of a telecom tower. Borehole BH-1 was drilled to a depth of 10m, and standard penetration and undisturbed soil samples were collected. Laboratory testing of the samples found cohesive soil in the top 3m, underlain by non-cohesive strata. Based on the investigation, isolated or raft square footings are recommended, with net safe bearing capacities of 6 to 8 tonnes/sqm depending on the depth. The site is located in seismic zone IV, and 0.5m of replacement of soil below foundations is advised.

1. INTRODUCTION

M/s. BSNL LTD has proposal for the construction of Telecom Tower at site –BHURI BANSH,
Sub-District -NAKUD, District- SAHARANPUR in UTTAR PRADESH. For the purpose of
construction, it is required to have the soil investigation data to identify the geology of the soil and
to identify the type of proposed foundation based on the reports. The work of geotechnical
investigation for the above said project was entrusted to M/s. E I H TeleinfraPvt Ltd, Aligarh,
Uttar Pradesh by M/s Dinesh Engineers Limited. The work of lab testing and report preparation
is entrusted to M/s Pranvi Infra Projects and Quality Control Pvt Ltd, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh
(An NABL accredited laboratory as per ISO/IEC 17025:2017)

The report presented herein deals with the analysis of field and laboratory test results, type and
depth of foundation and recommendations based on the type of soil and its safe bearing capacity of
soil.

2. OBJECTIVES OF INVESTIGATION

The purpose and objectives of investigation was to obtain the sub surface conditions at the site so
as to evaluate the soil parameter which are required for evaluating the safebearing capacity of soil
for the design and suitability of the foundation for the proposedstructure. The knowledge of
general geotechnical subsoil characteristics, compressibilityand information about ground water
table is an essential requirement for the geotechnical engineer, which would assist the designer to
design the foundation system.

3. SCOPE OF WORK

The detailed scope of work of geotechnical investigation for the project was limited to the
following:
 Mobilization of equipment and personnel to the project site, setting up the equipment and carrying
out the field investigation and demobilization of the same after completion of fieldwork.
 Drilling of one bore hole (BH-1) 150mm diameter of boring at specifiedlocation mentioned. As
per the work order it was requested to go with the manual boring upto a depth of 10.0 m bore or
N>100 achieved, whichever occurs earlier.
 Conducting standard penetration test at regular depth intervals of 1.50m or at everychange of
strata whichever illustrates earlier and collect samples for further testing.

 Collectionoftheundisturbedsoilsamplesateverychangeof thestrata.

 Recording the depth of ground water table (If observed).

 Conducting all necessary and relevant laboratory tests on representative soil

samplelimitedtofollowing:

i. Natural Moisture Content

ii. Grain Size Analysis (Sieve)

iii. Liquid and Plastic Limits

iv. Specific Gravity

v. Bulk and Dry Density

vi. Shear parameters (c & ø)

Laboratory testing for evaluating SBC as per latest IS codes. Submission of soil testing
reportwhich includes interpretation of test results and suggesting recommendations for net
safebearingcapacityofsoil.

4. GROUND WATER

Based on our measurement in the completed bore hole, water table was not encountered a
during exploration but there is a water pond nearby the structure and during rainy the
pond water may percolate in the influence soil strata below the foundation. Fluctuations
may take place due to surface evaporation rates and variation in seasonal rainfall. So, water
table rise is not adopted and water table correction is not taken for the calculations of desired
bearing capacity and settlement criteria.

5. SEISMIC ZONE

District SAHARANPUR falls under high Risk Zone-IV as per IS-1893 (Part-I) : 2016.
6. SITE STRATIGRAPHY

Based on our investigation in field and laboratory, it is revealed that the soil at site is:
BH-1: Consists of cohesive soil for up to 3.0 m from the borehole explored and than
followed by Non-cohessive strata. Detailed soil description is presented in the summery
of test results report which is attached in the annexure.

Disturbed samples were collected from the split spoon after conducting SPT. The samples are
preserved in transparent polythene bags. UDS were collected by driving 75 mm diameter thin
walled tubes using a 63.5kg hammer in accordance with IS:2132.
The tubes are sealed with wax at both ends to minimize loss of moisture. All samples were
transported to our laboratory for further examination and testing.

DECLARATION

1. The recommendations are based on the field investigation data results and laboratory tests results which are assumed by our
experience in this regards as there was no sample collected from the test locations because of refusal at that particular point
or location.
2. All the test results which are obtained by testing the samples collected in the laboratory and laboratory is not responsible if
any discrepancy is observed regarding the strata and properties of soil at the site in future.
3. Sample bearing capacity calculation and settlements are attached in Annexure-II
4. The above foundation recommendations are based on the consideration of soil replacement of atleast 0.5 m thickness
below the foundation, hence it is required to replace the soil strata of atleast 0.5 m thickness below the footing using
well graded GSB or any suitable fill.
5. If the actual sub-soil conditions during excavation for the foundations differ from that has been reported, are ference should
be made to us for suggestions.
6. Further, the recommendations are based on the assumptions as mentioned in the report and the designer of the structure should
take into consideration all the factors required as per codes.
7. There commendations should be taken as guidelines for the designer.
8. All loosesoils/debris/human waste/chemical waste material should be removed and the exposed foundation bearing surface
should be watered and compacted properly using rammers/rollers.
9. Thesurfaceshouldthenbeprotectedfromtoconstructionactivitiessothatthefoundations may be aronthenaturalundisturbed ground.
10. For open foundations, weopineplacementof100 mmthick“bindinglayer”ofleanconcretetofacilitateplacementofreinforcing steel
and to protect the soils from disturbance and also to ensure stable bed to facilitate placement of reinforcement steel.
