and value;
- Discuss that human person has God-given responsibilities
Rubrics:

Questions:
1. What does it mean to be created in the image and likeness of God and why does it make people
valuable and respected?
- Being created in the image and likeness of God means that humans reflect certain qualities and
attributes of the divine, such as rationality, morality, and spirituality. This belief underscores
the inherent dignity and worth of every individual, regardless of differences, leading to their
value and respect in society. Recognizing this divine imprint in each person fosters a sense of
reverence and empathy, promoting equality, justice, and ethical treatment of others.
2. What are the various important aspects of being human?
- Being human entails a variety of important aspects that shape our identity and experiences.
Physically, we have biological structures and functions that keep us alive. We have cognitive
abilities like reasoning and learning that allow us to understand and interact with our
surroundings. Emotionally, we have a wide range of emotions that influence our relationships
and reactions to life events. Socially, we connect with others, which fosters a sense of
belonging and community. Moral and ethical considerations guide our actions and values.
Many people seek spiritual meaning and purpose outside of the material world, exploring
beliefs and existential questions. Creativity and expression help us communicate and interpret
ideas, emotions, and experiences. Adaptability and resilience help us overcome obstacles and
develop personally. These characteristics together define the complexity and richness of the
human experience.
3. How does peripheral level of personhood differ from the core level of personhood?
- The peripheral level of personhood includes external, superficial aspects like physical
appearance, social status, and accomplishments, which are frequently influenced by societal
expectations. These characteristics can shift over time and may not accurately reflect one's true
identity. In contrast, the core level of personhood includes deeper, intrinsic qualities like
values, beliefs, emotions, and personal experiences that are central to one's sense of self and
remain relatively stable throughout life. While peripheral characteristics may differ, the core
aspects represent the essence of a person's identity and contribute significantly to their
authenticity and self-awareness.
4. What does it mean to be a steward of God's creation, and how does this concept relate to our
responsibility towards the environment and natural resources?
- Being a steward of God's creation entails acknowledging that humans have been charged with
the care and management of the Earth and its resources. This concept emphasizes the
importance of environmental protection and preservation, as well as the responsible and
sustainable use of natural resources. It entails cultivating a mindset of respect, gratitude, and
accountability for the Earth and all of its inhabitants, viewing them as valuable gifts from a
divine creator. This responsibility goes beyond individual actions to collective efforts to
promote environmental stewardship and address issues like pollution, habitat destruction, and
climate change, ensuring the well-being of current and future generations.
5. How does the concept of being in communion with others shape our relationships with family,
friends, and the broader community?

- The idea of being in communion with others emphasizes a strong sense of connection, unity,
and mutual support in relationships. It strengthens family bonds of love, understanding, and
cooperation, promoting harmony and resilience in the face of adversity. Among friends, it
fosters trust, empathy, and shared experiences, improving companionship and emotional
support. In the larger community, it promotes collaboration, solidarity, and a dedication to the
common good, fostering a sense of belonging and social cohesion. Finally, being in
communion with others strengthens relationships at all levels, which benefits both personal
well-being and societal flourishing.

Learning Outcomes:

- Protect and respect human life and dignity in the service of love as reflected in the life of Christ
- Prove and proclaim their love of God by protecting God’s creation and loving their neighbors
regardless of gender, color, social status, or creed.

Questions:
1. Suppose you encounter a homeless person in need on the street. How would you apply the
principles of protecting and respecting human life and dignity, drawing inspiration from the
actions of Christ? Cite specific ways.
o One way to accomplish this is to engage with the person with compassion and empathy,
recognizing their inherent worth and treating them with respect. This could include starting
a conversation to learn about their needs and concerns, lending a listening ear, and
demonstrating genuine care and concern for their well-being. Furthermore, providing
practical assistance, such as food, water, warm clothing, or information about local shelters and
support services, can help meet their immediate needs and alleviate their pain.
2. Consider this scenario where you witness someone being bullied or mistreated. How might you
intervene in a way that reflects the values of love and respect for human dignity? Cite specific
ways.
o To begin, it is critical to address the situation directly by intervening calmly but assertively
to prevent further mistreatment. This can include standing between the victim and the
aggressor, stating unequivocally that the behavior is unacceptable, and ensuring the
victim's safety. Second, empathy and compassion are demonstrated when you actively
listen to the victim's concerns, validate their feelings, and reassure them that they are not
alone.
3. You notice that a nearby park is being littered with trash regularly. How would you demonstrate
your love for God by taking action to protect this part of His creation?
o Organizing or participating in a community clean-up effort to remove litter from the park
demonstrates care and stewardship of God's creation. Second, advocating for and
implementing litter prevention measures, such as installing more trash cans, posting signs
encouraging responsible waste disposal, and educating the community on the importance
of environmental preservation, demonstrates a commitment to protecting God's creation.
Third, incorporating sustainable practices into daily life, such as reducing waste, recycling,
and encouraging eco-friendly habits, demonstrates reverence for the natural world as an
expression of love for God. Overall, taking action to protect the park demonstrates a
commitment to caring for and preserving the beauty and integrity of God's creation.
4. You're at school, and you notice a student who seems lonely and excluded because they don't fit in
with the popular crowd. How could you show your love for God by reaching out to this person and
including them in your activities?
o To show love for God by reaching out to lonely and excluded students, one could start a small
group or club centered on a shared interest or hobby that welcomes all students, regardless of
popularity or social status. For example, starting a book club, art workshop, or outdoor adventure
group allows the isolated student to connect with others who share their interests.
